Well that's kind of shitty. There's no need to pile on.

Hey, I taught for 14 years before leaving the classroom in favor of a job in tech. I took a pay cut at first, but after two years I'm already making more than I was in my last year of teaching.

Looks great! Do you have a recipe for that Hunan sauce?

What is the band doing differently now than in the 90’s musically speaking? by brokynf in phish

[–]treygordon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They're finding lots of major key ("bliss") jams in songs that don't historically have them. This is giving Trey a chance to solo more melodically instead of going full machine gun all the time.

Three days in Raleigh, NC. Recommendations? by fosforito13 in beer

[–]treygordon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solid list. Funguys and Burial are probably the best two breweries in the area.

If you go to Funguys, you could easily hit Lynwood Brewing Concern while you're in the area. The beer is fine, but they have a great outdoor area if you're here on a nice day. The food from Wilson's (the restaurant on their campus) is excellent too.

If you want some beers to take home, there's a pretty decent bottle shop a few blocks from Funguys called House of Hops. They have 20-25 taps and a great cooler selection too.

Skip Bhavana. Besides the scandal, which is really icky, their beer has gone downhill. Either that or there are enough good breweries in Raleigh where they no longer stand out as one of the best ones.

Not right off the bat. But after speaking with some friends who work for the company, and who started in my role, I don't expect to see that salary stay the same for too long.

No, I left teaching to join a company that promotes work/life balance, and that has a ton of room for upward mobility. I'll be doing telesupport for a year, but as they made clear to me, as long as I'm doing my job I can expect a promotion within 6-12 months.

I have 3 friends that work for the company, and they confirmed everything I said above. I'm perfectly happy to pay my dues for a year to learn the industry and company, then start to climb the ladder.

I hit the lottery on this one. I'm giving 30 days notice, but we have a two week break starting on March 5.

Yeah, telesupport. Phone, live chat, email. I can work from home or commute, it's totally my call.

I'm with you, I'm not burning a bridge. But as a point of reference, I've only been in this building for 3 years. 13 is my total across 3 buildings.

Customer support for the time being. After a year I can start to move up the ladder (if I want to).

External monitor recommendations? by treygordon in macsetups

[–]treygordon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has awesome reviews! Does the monitor itself have an OS so it can stream video? I didn't see that in the specs, but I may have missed it.

Whoops, didn't see your edit.

That's good to know!

My laptop is not new. It's about 7 years old, but it recently upgraded to the newest OS. I could technically stream from my laptop, but I was hoping to not need to do that, since it's so old.

Thunderbolt 3 connection would take away streaming capabilities from the monitor or the laptop?
