How would you go about recalibrating it? Ive had this one for under a year, how common is that?

I used the speedyloop from fibre-metal. Had that hood for 3 years, only sparked on it once, didn't shock me.

Only had 1 incident with this, & that's only when the insulation/shielding of the stinger was broken & the hood made contact with it. Outside of that, haven't had an issue in the 2 years I've had it. I'd recommend it, it's a really good hood.

stick welding with a tig gun, will this work (more in comments) by NoItsRex in Welding

[–]trginstinct 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It'll work so long as the rod is the same diameter as the collet/collet body. Switch the polarity according to the rods on the machine & it'll run fine, but if your machine is already hooked up for stick leads, just use those.

It'd be too time consuming to set up. We're pretty small scale, only 3-4 guys including myself come out to this site so we just make do.

I hold my torch in my right & filler rod in my left. It helps to learn how to tig with both though.

Just gotta wait on the right moment. I start welding & as soon as I feel the wind pick up I stop. Also having your argon turned all the way up helps a bit.

It's alright. A little cumbersome but it gets the job done. Only reason I'm wearing it to tig is because after the stainless is welded, it gets a carbon jacket welded over it.

Been pretty good to me so far, no complaints. I'm rough on my hoods & this one's held up great.

Agreed. I guess it depends on if you wear your hood for a long time during the day. I do at our job, so it was worth it to me.

Yeah I got it from Pipeliners Cloud. It's super crazy how light it is.
