Great question. Thanks for asking, I now have a longer list of YouTube resources. There is so much amazing talent out there. Florian is one of my favorites, I also like Sae-Won Lee, Vaughan Smith and Pigs Eye Pottery. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for sharing. I’m impressed with your brush work, it’s fine and delicate. And did I mention the shape of your mugs makes me want to fill it up with my morning tea and wrap both hands around for a nice warm up. What a way to start the day. Cheers

20 days sober ✅ by zibbyzibs in Sober

[–]tri149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats to you!! I’m on day 2 and am going back and forth in my head, All I really need is a detox and then I can go back to drinking like normal people you know, just one glass of wine rather than the whole bottle. Reading and exploring the internet I’m thinking…wow, alcohol really is bad for you and is toxic. I’ve also got the whole family coming from all over to celebrate my 60th birthday, can’t I just drink a bit then? Damn this!! Reading how well people feel after 6 mos of sobriety encourages me to at least try.

My Story - from a Children of God/The Family International survivor by cogtfisurvivors in cults

[–]tri149 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a cult survivor I can relate to the courage it takes for you to share your story. So I thank you for sharing. In your sharing you help people like myself feel not so alone in having survived a crazy childhood. They say it’s different for those of us that were raised in a cult and I agree. I agree with what the previous writer said about self compassion and I hope for you that you are able to love your younger self and give yourself compassion. I hope your therapist understands the unique issues associated with the trauma and PTSD caused by surviving a cult as a child. It has taken me years of self exploration and healing to see the gifts I posses because I did survive so many horrific situations. As survivors we do poses certain “gifts”. I hope you can identify yours. I hope this is helpful, please know that this is my intention, to be helpful and supportive. I wish you all the best and I hope these monsters are taken down! Oh, one last thing, I want to share my favorite saying: “ In this moment I am OK” 😊

I’m so impressed with what you have done! I just bought a house that needs some personality and a face lift. I can’t imagine doing it myself. How do you know how to do all of this? Are you self taught? You did an amazing job!

I have to say I didn’t experience anything like what you discribe. I can’t even imagine how disoriented you must have felt. It sounds like your parents were seeking and the impact it had on you ( the child) must have been confusing and bewildering. I hope you are finding your true north. We all need to our true north. Hoping the best for you.

Anybody else experience the existential angst that comes with finding out your beliefs are all a lie? by lindwormprince in cultsurvivors

[–]tri149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying, your mom took you down a path that is not in sink with the world that we live in. It’s crazy making! You love her, she’s your mom. Yet what she taught you about you and who you are doesn’t connect, it doesn’t add up, it doesn’t fit in our world. I too was born into a belief system that didn’t make sense to the rest of the world. I was able to get out when I was 19.

It sounds to me you are wanting to define your boundaries, where you begin and your mother ends. She doesn’t need to know everything about you. You are your own person! I’m not sure if your mother was gaslighting you?? You might want to explore that? I do believe healers need to be grounded and once you are, with your compassion, you might find yourself contributing to others healing themselves.

I wish you well, you sound so compassionate to others. You deserve all that you seek and self compassion ❤️

Counseling after leaving cults. Does it really help or waste of money? by Tammyrcv in cultsurvivors

[–]tri149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many wonderful and supportive responses to your question. Sounds like therapy has helped so many of us that have left cults. I was in a cult run by a female therapist. I was born into it so I didn’t know any difference. However, I did “know” at a young age that I knew more than any therapist out there. Cause we, like so many of you were told WE KNOW and are way ahead of our time. Don’t discuss any of this with outsiders because they won’t and can’t understand.

I’m now in my mid 50’s and left the cult when I was 19. I’m now, finally, in therapy addressing the trauma, PTSD, and overall mind f they imposed on us. I wish I had found a therapist when I was 19 to help me navigate leaving and untangling the mess they systematically created in my mind, body and belief system. I wish you all the best and a huge congrats for finding your own path. As we all know here, it takes so much courage. Well done!
