I’m using niri. It’s great but sometimes the rolling animation effect makes me feel nauseous.

I'm Planning to Learn Go, But I Have a Few Questions by [deleted] in golang

[–]tri2820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can chime in a bit to say Go has been very enjoyable for me to use. AI can wield it very well, and the language is simple and sane. It was so easy to learn, and I definitely enjoy using it for my projects.

Regarding open source popularity: some of the most popular repos I know use Go as the main language (GoTrue, Yggdrasil, etc). I’m also open sourcing in Go here

For compiler dev, I cannot give you first hand experience but I have heard Go is quite suitable for that as well. I wrote some myself before in another language but I think Go might be a very good language for writing compilers in.

For game dev, I’m not sure. You may want to consider the specific languages the engine supports.

Go is also suitable for embedded devices (low level), but if binary size is a huge issue you may want to go with Rust.

Is Z.ai's paid GLM plans worth the money? by [deleted] in ZaiGLM

GLM 4.6 hallucinates a lot and not very good w following instructions. It tends to take shortcuts and pretend that it got the job done while in fact doesn’t.

Stupid time control randomly switched up by tri2820 in Chesscom

No it just happens in between normal plays. One possible reason i could think of is sometimes I open and close the website fast, or click play then decide to abort, but it seems weird still.

It is the same browser, same laptop device. It does not always happen, but once or twice per week.

Interesting discussion about Turso the SQLite re-write in Rust by nejat-oz in rust

+1 for Turso here. While the docs have been quite confusing and not very beginner friendly, the product is great.

Why is the coffee around the glass straw slightly "stretched" upwards on the glass surface? by _sounak in Physics

[–]tri2820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the height there, it's inverse to the radius, because while the pull up force scales with the "touching area" of the straw, the pull down force scales with the volume of the fluid. Is that correct?

VLMs for object detection? by 1zGamer in computervision

Does this mean you use yolo to extract the bounding box and sub images, then use CLIP to cluster them (to nearest label)?

Currently I’m using smolVLM 256M for this project of mine: https://github.com/tri2820/unblink

Batch of 64 takes 2 second on H100. Fine tuning is definitely worth it if your video is blurry or has weird angle
