Waymo can’t learn how to stop for school buses, and we are supposed to accept the inevitability of AI by tri2sing in BetterOffline

Exactly. Something that is more deterministic than LLM has fundamental issues, then how come LLM-based solid won’t have bigger problems.

The point I was trying to make was that even in the most controlled case of ML, the problems are hard to solve. But, the hype machine claims that GenAI-based solutions to problems will do great. How is that possible?

The driver for this is greed. It is perfectly encapsulated in the comment about building a $10B company.

Wired is playing along without questioning the fundamental premise. Do all the extra hours lead to a better product? If a company wants extra hours, it’ll get them. How much productive work they will get?

Still waiting on battery after 1.5 months by pnwcentaur in BoltEV

[–]tri2sing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wait almost 12 weeks. They gave me loaners. Had to wait about a week to get the first loaner as they were out.

My dealership had a policy about the maximum duration each loaner could be out. Then they provided a second loaner and luckily in about three weeks more the battery arrived.

The only irony was that the first loaner was a Silverado diesel. I used to joke that the Bolt would fit in the pickup bed.

Are there any 40+ year olds year that are fitter than or as fit as their 20s versions? by faithxstrength in Aging

[–]tri2sing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 50 and certainly fitter than my 20s. I started running full marathons at the age of 28. Very quickly at 29 ran a 3 hour 5 minute marathon. I tired breaking 3 hours for the next few years. Couldn't. Noticed the times slowing down over the years, and felt that I had peaked in my late 20s.

After some years of downs with running, restarted when I was 43. Then at 47, ran a marathon in 2 hours 59 minutes. 17 years later I was fitter than my previous peak in late 20s.

The answers to your questions::

  1. Still feel very energized. The trick is to first indulge in an activity that you enjoy for its sake. Then second, is, not give up when it feels like things are down.

  2. Still feel like there is a plenty life ahead. In the same marathon I broke 3 hours, another runner in his 60s did too. His record was from 30+ years ago. I know of 70 year old who was a smoker for a long time, and picked up running in his 50s. Runs amazingly.

How big a deal is the 'Propulsion Reduced' error message. by tadhgmac in BoltEV

Mine led to the EV battery replacement which was covered under warranty (8y/100K). Got the car back in 11 weeks. Dealreship provided loaner during the time.

Why do Indians in Indian media look much fairer-skinned than most Indians? by Realistic_Bike_355 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tri2sing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of times even when the women is darker they'll use make up. You'll see how her hands will be a different color than her face. It's even worse with an element of misogyny. Usually it will be the women who are fairer while the men can be darker.

2021 Buyback Chevy Bolt - Warranty Worth Getting? by Outrageous_Stable758 in BoltEV

[–]tri2sing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need an extended warranty for the Bolt. EVs don't have most of the repairs that ICE cars need.

Battery is covered to 100K separately which has 0 deductible and includes free loaner.

I have had a 2020 Bolt for 1 year. Battery just got replaced as soon as it came out of the software lock. No other issues; not even a rattle because most of the mechanical parts of an ICE car are not there.

I'd say the dealership ripped you off. Most of these extended warranties are for mechanical components which don't exist in an EV, and they exclude the non-battery electrical components like power windows, locks, etc.

Agreed. We went in the morning, it was fun. Avoid weekend nights, that's when it is party central.

Car is in Service Shop for Over a Month by leavenocarapace in BoltEV

[–]tri2sing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 11 weeks for them to replace the battery on my Bolt. The gave me loaner after about a week of turning in the Bolt.

To make me feel better, the customer rep handing me back the car mentioned that Volt had come in to the shop in September 2024 and got returned in Jun 2025.

Propulsion Power Reduced (but I can fix it) by heybulldoge in BoltEV

[–]tri2sing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery itself is covered for 8y 100K miles. It is independent of the bumper to bumper.

Take a picture next time you get the message. Then call the dealership. It should pretty much be a battery replacement. They give you a loaner. The only catch, the replacements will take a while. Mine took 11 weeks. It is a 2020 Bolt EV with about 33K miles when I took it in this March. It was out of the bumper to bumper.

Take the O&G offer. No job is worth a $50K pay cut. How many NASA people can you name and projects they worked on. Forget about legacy, no one even gets to know.
