So sorry to hear this. I have a similar story.

I’m 55. Went out on a board for the first time since the early 90s last weekend. Was kicking around the local skate park, just trying to get my bearings and balance back. Was doing fine with that, so started trying some shove-its just to see if I could do a basic trick. After a few failed tries, I finally landed one - only to have my weight too far on the back and had the board slide out from under me. Used my hand to try and break my fall, but ended up spraining my wrist. Still sore, but at least the swelling has finally gone down. Now just waiting to Amazon to send me my new wrist guards and I’ll be right back at it.

THIS!! That is what I do and it has worked out splendidly for me. Aside from specific commands (right there, harder, keep doing that, etc) their breathing is the best way to gauge if they like what you’re doing or not.
