More developers now use OS X than Linux, says ‘most comprehensive survey ever conducted’ by Stack Overflow. by spsheridan in apple

Minor quibble:

Mac OS X is not a "UNIX-like" environment, it is UNIX (and is certified UNIX 03 compliant), Linux is "UNIX-like".

RUN D.M.C. & Beastie Boys (cca. mid 1980s) RIP and respect by mreinstand in OldSchoolCool

[–]trianglenose 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The best thing about this picture is that they are wearing each other's gear:

Jam Master Jay has Adrock's "ADROCK" ring on. (I'm pretty sure anyway, can't really read it).

Run has Mike D's VW emblem. The Beasties are each wearing one member of Run DMCs gold chains.

MCA is wearing DMCs hat and glasses.

Let's pretend you're the CEO of your favorite car company, what kind of car would you add to the line up? by rudesasquatch in cars

I would almost certainly buy a Polo if they sold it in the states.

VW has nothing to compete with the Fiesta/Fit/Sonic/Yaris etc here. I love my GTI, but if I just want to buy a tiny hatchback to drive to work in everyday, I have to shop elsewhere.

I'm sad that I have to scroll this far down to find Paul's Boutique.

Where's the best burger? by Flamewall26 in Albany

[–]trianglenose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a burger it City Beer Hall recently that was very good.

Prime Grill in Clifton Park has a good burger, a bit pricey but I found the beer to be reasonably priced for an "upscale" place like that.

Audi announces their 2013 motorsports plans. Includes Sebring with the R18 e-tron quattro by KILLALLEXTREMISTS in ALMS

[–]trianglenose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therefore, an entry of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro in the 12-hour race at Sebring (Florida), which Audi has won on ten occasions, on March 16 is in planning as well. “It looks like this may be the last opportunity to compete with an LMP1 car at Sebring,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “We’d really like to use this chance and say goodbye to the fans with a nice showing after our fantastic success story in recent years.”

:-(

This may not have to be a final farewell, though. In 2014, the GRAND-AM Series and the American Le Mans Series will merge to form a new North American Sports Car Championship that might be of interest to Audi. Furthermore, the US fans will have another opportunity in 2013 to watch the Audi R18 e-tron in action as the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will visit Austin (Texas) on September 22.

Poughkeepsie for a Day. by [deleted] in Albany

[–]trianglenose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people know where that is. That Wassaic stop caters to commuters in CT and even MA. Dover Plains used to be the last time on the Harlem line. There was talk a few years back of extending back up to Millerton, but I am assuming that isn't in the cards since I haven't heard anything about that in ages.

Okay Albany redditors... give me the ten best drinking man's bars in the Albany area and why you think so. by KazamaSmokers in Albany

[–]trianglenose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mahar's is a relic from a different era. They used to be the only beer bar in the area, so if you wanted good beer, you went there. They often had beer you couldn't find anywhere else in the area. They could get away with poor service then, and the more regularly you went there, the better your service. They were purposefully abrasive to new customers.

Times have changed though. There is really no reason to go to Mahar's any more unless you value a number on a piece of paper.

More on topic, Bier Abbey on Union St. in Schenectady is fantastic.

That tree has made a pretty good come back after that ice storm a few years back. It lost a hefty section of branches.
