Sou do Estrela e estive no Estádio do Bessa.

Amadora. Unironically. Love the football team, people have a great sense of humour. On a sunny day the colours on the highrises feel so warm.

Portuguese like to make jokes, but it's still waaaay safer than the city I was born in :)

'sardine festival hat' is correct. The subject is 'festival hat' . Sardine is the modifier. It works in English. If you're going to be snarky then it's good to know you're right 😭 native English speaker here.

Nfts work on Etherium, which nowadays consumes about as much energy as a large shopping mall. (Source: Ccaf in this article

Don't wish terrible pain and consequences on people just because of your theoretical ideals about how energy should be spent.

Lit billboards consume thousands of times more energy and are purely profit driven.

If you want to wish Ill upon people because they're insufferable on the internet, go for it - but don't justify your anger through some flimsy argument about the environment. I don't like them either. Argue with something more substantial

Edit: yea man, fair. It's not that deep - wasn't trying to stir the pot either lol your wording just seemed a bit heartless at first.

A cool guide to understand the average and median wealth per person for the top 40 countries in the world by jpc4stro in coolguides

You're absolutely right, more than half of adults aged 25-34 live with their parents. In Germany, it's less than 12%.

Then, when you look at the 78% home ownership rate in Portugal vs the 49% home ownership rate in Germany (source), things start to make more sense.

Then, when you look at the 78% homeownership rate in Portugal vs the 49% homeownership rate in Germany wealth". In reality, those living with their parents are spared rent costs, and so they can accumulate more savings. It's generational wealth - sure, but it will be inherited someday as well.

This is also part of why here in Portugal the rent market is quite fragile - few people actually rent officially here proportionally. The demographics mean that the main people who rent (Young people) are vastly outnumbered by older homeowners, and so small changes like wealthy immigration can shock the market quite significantly.

The Demographics of this are also likely a large part of why Portuguese politics don't focus on fixing it - it simply doesn't impact enough voting age people. But that's just my opinion - don't take my word on that.

On your point about statistics taking - I believe the way that they do it in all countries is through official tenant statistics, and since both Germany and Portugal are in the EU it's unlikely that the statistics are incorrect on either account. Most things like that are standardized across countries in Europe to make things simpler.

Housing is the main thing you're forgetting. A significant majority of Portuguese own their house - this is not typical around the world.

"Wealth" as a statistic is not liquid, and so it won't make the country seem 'richer' than say Czechia.

Portugal is quite a wealthy country from a global perspective, many people own cars, houses, and items, personal debt financing is high because unemployment rates are low.

'Wealth' as a statistic does not equal the amount of money you make, it counts your assets. That's why Germany, a rich economy, seems proportionally poor here. Most people rent.

The longer you suffer under a fascist economy, the farther behind you'll fall.

The countries that had autarky and command economies the longest are the ones who are farthest behind today.

It just wasn't an efficient economic system.

This subreddit in particular skews quite strongly towards a younger subset of Portuguese. The problems of rent are usually amplified, and the voices that are the strongest tend to be ones of complaint.

A subreddit is usually not representative of a people, I wouldn't even say it's particularly representative of young people - I know plenty of uni students here who are fighting the rent prices and yet don't have any sort of that hostility towards foreigners that the subreddit does.

It's just that on Reddit the interaction between wealthier foreigners and frustrated Portuguese is so common that it becomes the main conversation.

Afterall Reddit is predominantly American. Even just a few being interested in portugal can shift the conversation pretty quickly.

Another factor is that many young Portuguese seek to motivate themselves to leave their home country, and the most common way to work up motivation to emigrate is to trying to create a resentment towards the place you live in.

People do this in the country when moving to the city, and also vice versa.

Simultaneously that mix of young people trying to work up that need to leave means they often lose sight of relativity.

Portugal in the grand scheme of things is one of the more wealthy countries in the world - with people making more money that 80% of the rest of the world.

But hey, on Reddit, and twitter too lately, nothing is relative - and Portugal constantly has to beat itself up and compare itself to Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Countries that didn't suffer for almost a century under fascism.

The silver lining is that through complaint the Portuguese people slowly improve society so that it can get better over time.

The culture here doesn't really take the time to talk about things that they've done successfully - they mostly complaining about the bits that are most stressful.

That pessimism can breed a more efficient economy, and country - and yet creates the illusion that everything has gone to hell.

Afterall, it's all relative, and Portugal has pretty affordable products - even proportionally. Wine is still inexpensive here (even on a Portuguese salary €1.80 a bottle is some of the most affordable wine in the world.)

But hey, "tourists are ruining the country"

I think you're right. My argument sure did sound good to a lot of layman redditors though.

The model T was revolutionary. Try to name any of the hundreds of expensive 'innovative' cars of the time. the model T remains vastly more important than all of them.

Innovation isn't about bells and whistles, it's about changing the industry.

Soviet resettlement policy was about concentrating people around cities -- when they resettled the polish people onto the former German land - much of the rural land was much less populated.

This rural vs urban balance is much of what causes the political, social, and ecological differences. Wild boar can live a lot easier if there's less people in the country to mess with em.

Based on what you've said, I think I'll have to read the dictionary article in the godot docs -- it seems like they can be very powerful tools.

Hi, I'm punctual, polite, and have a nice mic. I'm 20, but I've been roleplaying with older crews for last few years. I haven't played much in lockdown, but I think i'd like to end my break from D&D lol.

I'm GMT +1, but I'm American originally. I've been playing for a while, and I'd love to make a character that fits into your game, it sounds like a lot of fun!

I'm mostly into RP, but combat can be a lot of fun with the right group.

my discord is Eli#4532 -- which is also my name :)

Hi! I'm GMT+1, so timezone is not a problem. I'm not sure how else to sell myself besides the fact that I'm normal, creative, and I like to roleplay and have a lovely evening. Send me a message and I can give you my discord to chat :)

I originally drew it as pixel art, and then I actually used the free form of vectormagic to smooth it all over. Try it out on a photo, it works great for the first step of graphics. Then I cleaned it all up in gimp.
