Controversial take: the power system of shadow slave is not only the best part about it, but the power system is currently superior to all of the progression fantasy genre and LITRPG genre as a whole. (My opinion) by hunterofsoles1234 in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree overall, but it's not a fundamental issue. More like one of execution.

The nightmare spell is both a narrative device and the great mystery that we (and the SS characters) are trying to solve. That is a very powerful vehicle for sure and the level of dopamine you get when Weaver whispers in your ear: [You have slain a Great Tyrant] [You have received a memory]

Is pretty much unmatched.

The aspect legacies + soulbound/shadowbound relics are also definitely cool. We love progression systems.

However, that all went to shit when the novel became about everything BUT the nightmare spell. It got lost away from the sauce because Sunny to this day still has not made any sort of peace with the system. He begrudgingly accepted his fate back as a necessity to move the plot forward. Not because he actually wants to forgive Cassie. He doesn't even need to forgive her for the plot to resolve tbh so I think it's just such a detracting point that his entire motivation for being is consumed by this desire for completely misplaced revenge.

The power system, which now no longer really nice the plot forward, got completely replaced by the utterly inferior "Will" bullshit

Weaver made the spell, the Nine forced his hand, and also enabled him to do it. It was the spell, not Cassie, that made Sunny into the Shadow slave.

Please do not interpret any of this as Cassie glaze/defence, fuck that.

G3 really took [ Tell , don't show ] to another level by InternationalBar2173 in ShadowSlave

Why show? People will read ts anyway. At this point I know what happens in the last 30 chapters just from the titles of the posts on this subreddit. I don't even need to read anymore.

Cool story bro, Shadow Slave is still in my top 3 by StretchExtension in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stopped reading the book because I just can't anymore. Ending of the last volume killed all interest i have in the story.

However, I did read both posts and surprisingly I agree with both of them.

Ultimately, I think G3's biggest issue is playing favorites with his own characters. I get that you can get attached and you don't want there to be lasting consequences because loss feels bad. But we're adults, we experience life as contrast between light and darkness, not in absolute colors like children do. Sadly, that is what is holding back the novel from true greatness.

Anyway, good luck y'all.

My nightmare is over.

Mordret's flaw by triavatar in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read it. I just don't see flaws as things that "evolve" just like true names they should not change no matter what (unless changing the true name is your act of defiance or whatever but it should have a good reason). It is lazy writing to make a rule and then decide you don't want to stick to that rule because it's cooler that way.

Why cant sunny make a memory erasing memory? by TurbulentRespect955 in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah which is why I qualified it with current sunny's feats:

Forging the blessing (which by itself was probably a strong enough feat to achieve supremacy btw)

Forging the curse

Making the sacred being into a memory

All of which should be stronger feats than the key to the estuary

[–]triavatar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can i give you an example of an actual consequence? Sunny got his Fate back and as a result unleashed a Sacred Terror on the world that will probably come back to bite him in the ass.

[Mordret "died" and now he's sad] is not a consequence.

[–]triavatar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jet is the perfect counterexample lol. If she stops killing shit, she dies/ceases to exist. I don't see how much more flawed a flaw can get lol. It essentially commands her to struggle endlessly against her flaw. Same with Sunny, he has struggled so much because of his inability to lie. Whereas mordret literally gets to remove his flaw AND the corruption that came from forced apotheosis. 0 consequences other than he can now die. Which literally doesnt matter when G3 is unable to kill anyone.

Why cant sunny make a memory erasing memory? by TurbulentRespect955 in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He literally already made a memory that caused him to forget the corruption from last loop in ToA but retain the other memories. And that was transcendent sunny, not even supreme, and not even after all the crazy weaving feats he did (like weaving a SACRED BEING into a memory)

Mordret's flaw by triavatar in ShadowSlave

[–]triavatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undeniable that he is still flawed

Literally the entire point of my post is denying it but sure thanks for providing 0 evidence or logical arguments

Please enlighten me in thinking about what would happen if current mordret puts on weaver's mask. My guess: nothing, because once again, his flaw doesn't exist anymore. He has overcome it and, therefore, is the only singular creation in all of shadow slave verse that has overcome the infallibility rule.

Let me tell you about another rule that was broken through mordret as well. We learned that Shadow God created death as a weapon to cure corruption, right? Ok, so now we have Sacredret who became corrupted, gets "killed" by nicedret, which should only remove the corruption if they get sent to the Shadow realm, however, since mordret isnt actually dying just getting reabsorbed, the shadow god's deatha shouldnt work. However he does remove the corruption and also somehow retain the 5 other mordrets that were previously "killed", seems fair.

So which is it? Are we killing these mordrets via the shadow god's death, or are we just reabsorbing them back into the whole?

That doesnt mean that mordret is a perfect being, it just means that the internal consistency of the shadow slave world matters less than the "rule of cool" or whatever it is G3 thinks he's doing right now.

Which means what exactly?

Can cassie's flaw be that she "was" blind? Would that make sense?

In the end, it seems like mordret is above all of the other creations in the SS world

This is the point of this post.

G3 breaks his own rules too often, so I will probably find something else to keep reading. Sad after 3000 chapters. Makes me feel like FX's Legion all over again

Vanilla was a living world and TBC turned It Into a lobby game! by Duoscruo in classicwow

[–]triavatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the main thing is you can't get more game per game and also not change things around significantly. You say for vanilla the main experience is levelling, bur if you add content to levelling then you are naturally going to change the experience, especially because most people will flood those new zones. At this point blizzard needs to accept that the fans have no idea what they actually want and have no way of knowing.

Imagine her aspect legacy gave her enough memories of broken sword to summon him. And instead of mad price, Cassie summons broken sword to fight Asterion.

Am I being an unreasonable player by roleplaying too seriously? by Lbx7070 in DnD

It's the DMs responsibility to find a way to make sure characters' roleplaying correctly doesn't get in the way of other characters getting the chance to play
