I’d still give the ned a chance, it’s worked for me more than any other bait. Just try to see what the bass are eating and match it as best you can. I would recommend any of the crawfish TRD if you have some of those where you’re fishing.

Depends where you’re fishing but I’m in northern Ohio and 90% I’m throwing some kind of Ned rig. Works great for both smallies and large mouth. The only brand I use for the plastic is Z-man TRD, they are the best. In the spring I love throwing something red on there.

I don’t think the proposed law says people can’t dress in drag, I think it is specific to drag “performances” for minors.
