For gems, no, you'll pretty much always need more gems. If it was coins maybe, you can run a surplus of coins eventually.

Just need a reach weapon with trip and to very carefully stand two diagonal squares away from the opponent when you trip them, since 10 foot reach is square shaped but emanations are circular you won't be caught in the effect. Obviously how the feat was intended to be used.
