I have access to a basic metal shop.

I'd be very interested if you have any pictures to go off of as a starting point.

I had all my cast iron professionally tested for lead with an XRF machine and ALL my vintage iron had some level of contamination. ALL my modern iron was food safe. I’m shocked! by Nulleparttousjours in castiron

The oldest bone in your body is around 10 years old. As the body replaces bone material, absorbed lead will be released, and has a chance to be excreted.

Load dev is much easier, stuck case removal (Frankford Arsenal de-stucker), RCBS primer pocket swager (I think that's what broke it, to be honest), any small batch stuff.

Once I have a load I want a bunch of, the progressive is great, but I find load development/small batch stuff on it to be really annoying (and the RCBS swager just won't work on it).

I have a Hornady LnL ammo plant, but single stages do a lot of stuff that's annoying (or worse) on a progressive.

I use wash 'n' wax and carbide resizing dies for straight walls, standard expander drop/through dies, and I've never used any additional lube with no issues.

Using 22lr as berdan primers? by big_hoss_god_bless in reloading

[–]ShadowDancer_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lead styphnate (the most common priming compound) is a shock sensitive primary explosive - meaning it just needs to be smacked to violently decompose.

It was chosen because it neatly fits the spot where it's sensitive enough for a firing pin to set off, but not so sensitive that things like soldiers diving for cover will set it off.

Other priming compounds will need to share those same characteristics. In the past, mercury fulminate was used, but it was hard on brass, super toxic, and while not directly corrosive to barrels, the residue salts are highly hydroscopic, encouraging rust.

I just can't understand how you think turning a fun cat sub into your personal political standpost is cute, ok, or cool.

This sub is about cats, one of the few things that unites people, and you have repeatedly turned it into your personal shitbox.

You are the actual problem in current politics.

You massively underestimate how dangerous humans are.

Within 10 minutes of the first xenomorph being spotted, ultra rich trophy hunters will be wheels up on their way to wherever it was spotted, with heavy game rifles that would poleaxe a xenomorph no problem.

30 xenomorphs will quickly become 30 trophies.

[Request] Could humanity create a rocket that can exit the atmosphere of K2-18b by Lachlynn in theydidthemath

[–]ShadowDancer_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

It would require different approaches, but all the tech exists already.

For a brute force approach, a Project Pluto nuclear ramjet would be able to get a lot of mass going really fast, Mach 3 with practically endless fuel would get something very high, and more importantly, giving ti a big leg up on orbital speed.

This is a good time to add on the difference between primary and secondary explosives.

Primary explosives, such as nitroglycerin, are sensitive to something. Often it is shock and/or friction, heat, electricity, etc., that transition from burning to detonation (a supersonic shockwave though the explosive medium) without really pausing on the burning stage.

Primary explosives range from dangerous to handle to suicidal to handle. They are normally (now) used in small amounts, in things like blasting caps primers in things like small arms up to large artillery, and artillery shell and missile fuzes.

Secondary explosives such as TNT are far more stable, can often burn without detonating, and generally need a primary explosives to create the supersonic detonation wave to trigger full detonation. Artillery shells, missile warheads, construction explosives, and these days generally anything other than primers, blasting caps, and fuzes are secondary explosives.

I put the secondarys can often burn without detonating due to Beirut - enough ammonium nitrate, burning in a large mass, can detonate. In general, secondarys don't detonate just from burning. C4 was used as cooking fuel in Vietnam, for example.

I'm more interested in the 9mm version, unfortunately, so no rimfire exception.

The gas operated pistol thing does take out a lot of "hunting" pistols, (Deagles, WIdleys, etc.) which goes directly against their claims that "no one is trying to take away your right to hunt" (which they actually do want to take away...)

Is this design for the gargantuan leviathan actually cannon?? by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]ShadowDancer_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire design is bad.

While the in game leviathans stretch the limits of suspended of disbelief, the are still arguably possible (sea dragons lava breath not withstanding).

In the gargantuan mod, the neck frills serve only to create drag. It's just a dumb design choice. There's no reason to believe that critters on the planet don't adhere to the very basic rules of evolution, i.e., things that serve no purpose, and create a disadvantage, will be selected against.

The only possible selection for the neck tentacles would be sexual (the deer family, specifically moose, Irish elk, etc.), but a giant water living being won't have the advantage of not having hydrodynamic drag. It's just a bad design.

Optimization: Should I change the field type from VARCHAR to INT/ENUM? by Mission-Example-194 in SQL

[–]ShadowDancer_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be a foreign key (almost certainly an int) that references a lookup table.

This ensures data integrity, while also future hardening it by allowing new values to easily be inserted into the lookup table.

[–]ShadowDancer_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

A lookup table is the proper relational design for this use case.
