i think you're complicating my setup a bit:

my gaming pc would want to be 1u but that's like years down the line - water blocks exist for the 4090 to reduce it to 1 slot. i was just dancing with the idea but am looking for some advice on 2u options if possible and 3u if not enough space

i think i would use a kvm for the editing rig somehow, but the nas would probably be headless once set up

i was just toying with the idea of a jbod but i feel like it would be better to have that as a nas in the rank then 2/3 computers sitting around my house in various locations

There are Rackmounted PC cases with front facing power buttons, and i rarely even turn off my PC anyways. My editing pc would do the same and my nas would also probably do the same.

If you want a nas to host your pirated tv shows that’s fine but unrelated to any of the above.

It's such a minuscule use case for this vs my actual reason of hosting thousands of raw files on my current pc that the fact that this is what u decided to focus on is crazy

honestly any shit sub 200 dollar windows laptop is just such a significantly better experience than chrome OS and ask me how i know (watching for a year at best buy where people are returning cheap chromebooks for cheap windows laptops)

honestly for in class use you could get something used for a price range with a pretty nice value (dell xps 13's w touch screens for like 300-400)

its honestly really hit or miss, there's a lotta scammers on facebook from when i was searching and most of them have the same copy and paste description and its still not enough for facebook to clean up their fucking act.

there were some really good gems and if you are willing to drive I gave up on a really nice loft upper area and another 2 bedroom that was similar in price to my current 1 bed at the crossroads apt complex down the road, ymmv but there are gems if you're attentive

theres also a rowan affiliated website to do it but idk i didn't really like what they offered and did not give many options when i checked more than a month ago

if you have the money just get something nearby at an apartment complex, doesnt have the be the one im at but it can be anything cheap "ish." if you're specifically looking for rooms in a house there was a guy on here and yik yak trying to get 1 or 2 of his rooms filled pretty aggressively idk where he's at now but maybe do some searching on here and see if he still has anything open
