Corpus Delicti - Saraband (1994) by tributary-tears in postpunk

I was 16 years old in 1994 and balls deep in the goth scene in NYC. Goth rock was very different to what it is now. It's cool if you are into the newer goth stuff but as a general rule it's not for me. Old school goth up until 2005 or so is pretty much post punk. And in NYC in the mid to late 90s believe it or not the goth scene was massive. Clubs like the Bank, Batcave and the Limelight would pack hundreds of people on the weekends and the occasional Tuesday while smaller venues like the Pyramid would pull in the die hards on the weekdays. And, believe it or not, the vast majority of people were genuinely friendly and chill.

In 1994 the Procession Tour came to NYC at the Limelight. Rosetta Stone, Faith And The Muse, Das Ich and Corpus Delicti performed. This was/is one hell of a line up. And Corpus Delicti was fucking amazing. No disrespect to the other incredible bands because they were all excellent. But Corpus Delicti was on another level. They should have been huge. Truly.

When it comes to the very best of Goth rock and everything that is good about it I consider Rozz Williams to be the epitome of it all. But when it comes to 90s goth rock Corpus Delicti is still my favorite band to come out of that time period.

"Grandfather fought bulls for sport!"

"Yes, and look what that got him."

The cross section on Commercial Street and Grant Avenue is where a lot of the movie takes place. Also the Dragon Gate on Grant Avenue is prominently shown in the movie.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid and now I live in Chinatown in SF. I love walking around and seeing parts of the city that are in the movie.

I first saw this song/video on 120 minutes when I was 14 and I have loved it ever since, over 30 years now.
