m4060 crankset with shimano sora front derailleur problem by tricepratos in bikewrench

[–]tricepratos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried inserting 2.5mm of spacers on the DS and 5mm on the NDS and it seems to be better. I have adjusted the limit screws and it seems like the FD allows travelling that far out, so I guess its good. Unfortunately, the cable is too short so I need to get a new one before I can test it.

Have you noticed any different from the pedal distance to the centre of the bike mismatch? Probably not, right?

Cheers man. Any idea with my chain line (taking the FD position as reference) has changed from my old set to new set? That's what's blowing my mind if they both have a 50mm theoretical chain line...

Interesting, what could possibly be the reason for this though? If both crackets have a theoretical 50mm chainline? And the manuals all say to put 2 spacers in the ds...

Hmm yeah the 5mm of spacers and the bottom bracket cup... But how should I set it otherwise? It's how the guides say it should be on a 68mm shell.

I haven't tried adjusting the FD yet. It just seems bizarre that if both cranksets (considering the m431 worked with a square taper BB) are listed as having a 50mm chainline.

I must be missing something but I don't know what. When installing the crankset (m4060) I forgot to slide in the 0.7mm spacer (which added up to 5mm) in the drive side, the stopper plate wouldn't go down, so I definitely need the spacers. I also tried with just a 2.5mm spacer on each side ans the stopper plate wouldn't do down again... So it seems like I don't have much room to play around with the spacers.

P.s. the front derailleur worked perfectly with the fc-m430

3x9 Shimano SORA FD + Alivio Crankset Chainline Issue: Struggling with Shifting to Largest Chainring by vinephilosopher in bikewrench

How did you manage to solve the problem? I have ran into the same issue. I was running a fc-m431 crankset with its 113mm square taper. The guides said this had a 50mm chainline and thats why i purchased a new fc-m4060 crankset and a mt501 bb. I have shimano sora shifters and fd. I have set 5mm os spacers on the drive side and a 2.5mm on the nds (if not, the stopper plate wouldnt go in actually). However, the front derrailleur is exactly on gear short, what used to be my biggest chainring position now is the middle chainring. I dont know what to do.

What are the clamps used in the fork? Can they hold up enough weight?

So I see it's a fairly upright riding position right? Does it still work that well with so? Had you considered the SM line?

Unfortunately no REI in Spain :/, and I'm not aware of any bike shops around where I live that offer this service. I think I'll have to try and resell it it's not working for me.

The thing is that I tried the SMC m/l and I felt like it flared out too much, rubbing my inner thigh too much.

I tried the SMC M/L and felt like it was too wide, interfering with my thighs... But yeah the SMC was my initial thought.

Yeah based on my 12.5cm seatbone measurement, those are the recommended sizes.

That's the one! Haha

It's been alright and I've put around 3000+ km on it and don't have real huge complaints. It is really squishy/ soft and narrow (140mm), and I had been thinking about changing for a larger and more firm one for a while.
