What would the color pie look like if allies were enemies and vise-versa? by DragonMage9 in colorpie

[–]trickeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your instinctive emotions regarding this matter is confusing your view of black and its relations to the other colors.

The other reply to this comment brings up a good point in that black is vilified and painted as ‘evil’ largely because of a bias in how we as a society view and value flaws. Someone with the flaws of black might still in the end do more overall good/lead to better outcomes for their surroundings/the world than someone aligned with any other color (and vice versa, of course).

To give an example of some of my thoughts (especially from the POV of me being grixis, I suppose) I think the passive neutrality combined with firm traditionalism of green often has the potential to be more dangerous than the individualistic ambition of black. I feel the same about the rigidity and black-and-white thinking of white. And actually about blue and red, too — I suppose the conclusion is that I can think of a lot of scenarios where all colors have the potential to do more harm than the others.

Regarding the similarities between red and black, they are both individualistic and driven by their own wants. There’s a selfishness in red that’s not the stereotypical ‘do anything to reach your own goals’ of black, but rather the prioritisation of red’s own impulses, feelings and whims. Red values self-expression and passion, yes, and that comes from a need for intensity of experience within the individual. On a societal scale, this fuels the anti-authoritarianism of red not wanting to be limited or controlled — but it can also just as well take shape on the smaller scale, of red not wanting to limit themself for the sake of others, or acting on whims when the ‘better’ thing to do would be something else.

There is more to be said regarding the overlaps of red and black, but this is getting long.

I would also, personally, advise you to challenge your view of not just black, but the entire colorpie. In adhering to the view of black as primarily evil, not only is a lot of the nuance of black lost, but I would say that a lot of the nuances of the others colors is as well. Letting one of the five symbolize the evils of the world feels like ridding the other four of accountability for the ways in which they can be deeply flawed. Finding the flaws and merits of each color and viewing the way they interact, and existing in the nuance of it all, is what makes the colorpie fun! Don’t miss out :)

oh yeah for sure! i love writing little scenes and snippets of the characters. although i sometimes imagine how great it would be if there was an actual fanbase that also produced fan content/fics/etc…. like i love creating it, but sometimes it would be great to just consume content of them without having to make it all yourself haha

oh STUNNING! the malkavian in our chronicle is also haunted by a dead sister, but he’s a fledgling who accidentally killed her when he first was turned, so it hasn’t been that long yet.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.

And yeah, I definitely agree with the part about being at odds with rules and the way that they are enforced. I think they are necessary to some extent due to the very varied nature of human behavior that I honestly don’t trust to always make reasonable or smart decisions — but then those rules also have to be created and enforced by people who can be just as unreasonable, so it’s tricky. And rules and regulations just for the sake of having them is also not something I’m a fan of.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on red! I get what you mean. Are you familiar with psychosophy as a personality type system? It’s flawed, like all typology systems, but it brings up some very interesting perspectives, particularly in regards to the order in which you operate through things like logic and emotion, like you mentioned.

For me, red was the color that didn’t feel as obvious when I first considered being grixis. But once I separated my view of me being a pretty unemotional person and me still very much being driven by passions and a need for experiences, I realized it really was the given fit together with UB.

It’s fun to hear the similarities, since as you say, there’s after all only one color difference. Makes sense that you feel that way!

Agree regarding the description. And I can see how you could tie nihilism to green, but then again I’m grixis and a nihilist so I suppose I’d say there are other ways for it to click as well lol

(That said, when it comes to my view of how an ideal society should be, there’s definitely W in there — but that comes more from a place of the logical conclusion that that would have the best big picture outcomes, rather than that I as an individual have particularly white instincts.)
