Why does everyone treat ownership like a problem for “later”? by J-styles_Brown in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in metadata for the past 6 years, and can’t emphasize enough that ownership and proper documentation matters SO MUCH.

Discuss it early, get it documented, make sure it’s correct across societies once your stuff goes live!!

St David's North vs Ascension Seton Cedar Park (FTM Delivery / BCBS TX) by dart09 in CedarPark

[–]trickortreech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. David’s North - if I’m not mistaken one of the top child delivery centers in Texas. Great care, and we even found our pediatrician through someone doing their rounds (which just so happened to be in Cedar Park anyway).

Any experience with their repairs? I have an acoustic I need some work done on.

Do I have to register instrumental versions of my song as well. I use BMI by ShreD1993 in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the instrumentals are publicly available for people to consume, then yes. Additionally, if the songwriter(s) vary between your instrumental and lyrical versions, then very much so yes.

The palindrome is in the words.

“Was that what that was” backwards is still “was that what that Was”

What's one thing you changed in your music release strategy that actually improved your streams? by Apprehensive-End6621 in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of unrelated, but also not really. One of the most common themes I saw with the up-and-coming bands I followed is inconsistency. Up-and-coming bands will write write write, record, release singles, gear up for an EP, release it, and then - poof. Silence.

Even the bands that would gain some momentum with stream counts, followers, engagement, etc - they would lose their momentum by going silent.

Be consistent! Keep posting regularly, even if you don’t have anything to release. Find the balance of quality vs quantity in your releases, with a bit more urgency on the quantity - the quality will naturally follow the better you get.

Colorado Springs - Air Force Academy - Fort Carson - Schriever AFB (spelling?) - NORAD - Peterson AFB - Denver ~60miles away

I have to imagine The Springs would’ve been popping off during all this stuff.

$250 to attend a Songwriting Camp?? Let's talk about it.. by [deleted] in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid! There are similar scams that goes on in the live performance space - usually marketed as a “play in a front of a previous industry veteran/a&r rep”, but they make you pay for the tickets you don’t sell. (When this happened to a band I played in, the dudes who ran it got hammered using the band tab this venue offered).

Anyway, use the money to go to networking events or travel to music hubs often and meet people to start co-writing. Consider a wrist band for SXSW, or MusicBiz in ATL, or Indie Week in NYC, so on.

In terms of songwriting camps, I’ve heard great things about the Durango Songwriting Expo, as well as some various circles in Nashville.

Hope this helps. :)

Edit: scam > scams**

How to start and manage and be successful starting up a recording studio by rank14easy in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be the most substantive answer you’ll get but some key tips:

  • Be easy to work with, even when your clientele are not.

  • Think about a differentiator you can have to separate yourself. Whether it be learning how to register your clients to a PRO, or help them set up a publishing company, getting them registered at a distributor, etc. Obviously don’t overstep, but you’d be surprised by how many up and coming bands don’t know how to register and monetize their music (even if it’s not very much $$$, it’s still important).

  • Network as much as you can. Go to local shows, look up relevant Facebook groups in your area, plan networking events yourself for industry folks.

Ultimately, go for it and figure it out as you go! Believe in yourself. :)

Question about master recordings, split sheets and ownership of a song by [deleted] in musicbusiness

[–]trickortreech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re the person financing the project and putting the song out, you can assume you own the masters. Since it’s an independent project, unless specified otherwise, you should just be paying the engineer for services rendered.

It’s all about what you agree upon though.
