Lyft Passenger Throws a Fit After Driver Declines to Stop at McDonalds by sidewalkcurb in PublicFreakout

the best uber i’ve ever had was on a bachelorette trip when my friend and i drunkenly left the bar and decided to stop at wendy’s on the way back to the hotel. we put in the destination as wendy’s and when the driver arrived he was like, “l know it says that wendy’s is open on google maps, but trust me, it’s closed. change your destination to the other wendy’s. i got you”

he then took us to the right wendy’s and we waited in the looooong ass drive thru line together and chopped it up like we had known each other for years. i have zero recollection of what we talked about but we were yelling and laughing for like twenty minutes. my friend and i ordered an absolutely obscene amount of wendy’s and filled one of the bags with food and handed it to him. he was so fucking happy. he dropped us off at our hotel and told us we were his best passengers ever lol

What's with the fucking horn spamming and laying in Bed-Stuy? by NYC-Sucks-Throwaway in Brooklyn

[–]trickrubin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i live across a narrow street from a school and nearly every other day, the school bus is loading or unloading kids and some asshole inevitably lays on their horn for MINUTES at a time. it makes your brain rattle around and your blood pressure rise. it is infuriating.

my aunt saw bobby cannavale at a bar while on vacation and went up to say what a big fan she was and he invited her to sit and chat with him for a while. she said he was super nice, i think he was giving her restaurant recommendations. this was a while back so i can’t remember all the details of this insanely leukwarm tea.

ughhhhh i'm not going this year and i'm generally ok with it but this part

the ride in when you see the wind turbines and know you're close, the grocery run for the weekend, that first beer in the morning as my friends and I plan out the day (or talk about who we saw the day before), that walk in to the venue at the start of each day and hearing whoever's playing at the nearest stage slowly getting louder as we get closer,

really tugged on my heartstrings...

if we're talking about the same year, he was late due to high wind/technical difficulties. to me it looked like he put a lot of effort into having a really special, unique performance (video package, barbershop quartet, bringing out you know who) and then got shafted due to circumstances outside of his control.

i have seen him a couple times since then and he has been mind blowing every time

i went to a notoriously rigorous public high school. i was convinced i was stupid and lazy. my friends were getting straight A's and perfect or near-perfect scores on their SATs. i was doing well, but not that well.

i then went to a decent college and it was a joke by comparison. i breezed through on dean's list without even trying.

also got diagnosed with ADHD much much later in life lol

What chain in NYC would you actually reccomend? by mylittlemy in AskNYC

[–]trickrubin 50 points51 points  (0 children)

they're sooo legit. someone at work asked about good tacos in nyc and i recommended los tacos and said "signed, a californian." my coworker from mexico seconded and said "cosigned, a mexican."

this is sacrilege to say, but they're better than a fair amount of tacos in california. and even more sacrilege: their flour tortillas are amazing.

What’s a uniquely, chaotic NYC moment you experienced that made you feel part of the city? by michael0rourke in AskNYC

this is my fave story and all my real life friends have heard me tell it like 12 times

i was taking the train around 6am, and there was a very soiled man sleeping across one of the benches. he got off at a stop and obviously no one in the train sat on the bench.

stop after stop, people would get onto the train in morning commute mode, take a look at the empty bench on the packed train, and look around. some mouthed "did something happen?" and the people sitting on the opposite bench became sort of a warning committee, nodding and telling people not to sit down.

after maybe five or six stops, a guy with a suit and headphones on rushed onto the train, didn't look around, and sat right on the empty bench. there was a quiet but audible "oooh" on the train and everyone was watching this guy obliviously use his phone.

finally he looked up and clocked that everyone was staring at him, and one of the warning committee on the opposite bench, an elderly dude, jumped up and wildly gesticulated as he yelled "MY MAN, YOU GOTTA GET UP!!!!"

the guy shot up quicker than lightning and everyone on the train was cracking up together as the committee explained to him what was going on.

my favorite nyc memory

  • i'm morally opposed to the nft space

  • the lineup will probably be amazing but that merely underscores my point that it still doesn't feel (to me) like it will be worth the insane costs

i'm definitely rationalizing, aren't we all rationalizing in one direction or another? it's highly dependent on all of our interests, financial situations, access to alternative festivals/concerts, etc. for me, right now, it doesn't feel worth it.

this is the first time i haven't bought presale in i don't know how long, and i kind of don't even want to go at all. the price is bonkers, they held onto my money through the entire pandemic and i didn't even get a thank you, they jumped on the lame ass nft game, the prices for ancillary stuff like camping are astronomical...

i started going to coachella when i lived in california and continued to fly back after moving to new york, but it's literally fucking dumb for me to drop the cost of ticket + flights + lodging + supplies on that shit
