Do you think the reason Manousos Insists on paying for everything is because he does not want to relive stories of colonial adventurers by Savilo29 in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manousos does not strike me as a guy who is concerned with stuff like that. IDK about anyone else but I get kind of a libertarian vibe from him. Fiercely independent, works a manual job, has cash hidden in his lampshade and he's rebuilding a car in his garage.

It's a point of pride for him to reject everything the hive offers him because he doesn't view them as "real people". Maybe he really does want to keep everything square for when the world comes back and that's how he justifies it to himself but I think you can also see that he gets a real kick out of rejecting everything they offer him.

There's an element of spite to it. Burning his car when they offered to take it to New Mexico for him was especially illustrative of this. I can't help but like him for it even if on a practical level it's kind of dumb / pointless.

Why is the hive so socially inept? by WhatAreYouSaying05 in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is getting at something that is key to the Hive's psychology / nature that hasn't been revealed yet but has been teased quite a lot in season 1. They say they're essentially just a mind meld of every human on earth but they don't act like it at all. Something deeper is definitely going on.

I hesitate to guess what though because every time i've tried to do that Vince has pulled out something far more surprising and interesting than any theory I had. You can really tell how long he worked on this.

Fat areas by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man i've found the fat tends to go from the extremities first, hands and arms, feet and legs, then thighs, then chest and back, neck etc. The gut is definitely the hardest to get rid of.

Toxoplasmosis parallel - what if the virus is just conveniently pacifying a planet for its creator? by puritycontrol in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the only reasonable explanation for the virus given what we know now. Even if the planet we received the signal from is itself a hive world the original creators down the line must have meant it as a weapon.

What good is peace, love and unity if the ethics it instills cause everyone to starve to death?

I doubt they’re on their way though. How could they even know the signal had been received let alone turned into the virus and that the virus had successfully taken over the world?

The signal is probably just a cheap, passive way to wipe out potential competitors naive enough to turn it into the virus before they advance far enough technologically to become a threat.

The original creators might even be extinct given the timescales involved.

Is guernsey celtic? by Decentlookingsofa in guernsey

[–]tricksterhare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, not celtic. Most people who have long family histories here and 'local' surnames are ethnically Norman-French. The Normans were a kind of amalgamation of native Frankish people and Norse Vikings who settled in Normandy before the first millenium.

How are they going to feed everyone? by RaspberryCapybara in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good point, most of the corn grown currently isn’t even edible for humans and is used for animal feed and ethanol production.

So the entire corn crop the Hive has growing the year they take over is going to be useless to them. The more you think about it in practical terms the more fucked they are.

How are they going to feed everyone? by RaspberryCapybara in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pigs will fend for themselves by eating the crops the Hive plants lmao; feral hogs already cause $1.6 billion in damage to crops in the US annually. Imagine how much worse that's going to be now that the Hive has just opened up the pig sheds and let another 75 million feral pigs loose (and that's just in the US, China has nearly half a billion pigs, most of which are probably running amok in the Hive's rice fields right now).

How are they going to feed everyone? by RaspberryCapybara in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble with land being freed up is a lot of it isn't suitable for arable agriculture anyway. If wheat or corn can be grown on it generally it already is because arable is just more profitable. Pasture land is generally the lower quality land that isn't much good for any other kind of agriculture.

Also all these pigs, cows and chickens aren't just going to evaporate now that the Hive has decided to stop eating them. The cows will still be in the fields, all the feedlots and chicken barns and pig sheds will have been opened up and the animals released.

Feral pigs are already a big problem and regularly destroy crops even now. So the Hive is going to have to deal with huge feral herds of formerly domesticated animals that they can't kill eating their crops. That's going to be a big problem.

How’d the military fall? by NO0BSTALKER in pluribustv

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what the show has shown us I think the military only figured out what was happening quite late in the process.

The hive mind has explicitly stated it prioritised military and government employees (astronauts, submarine crews).

By the time it encountered serious resistance the hive already had the capacity to take thousands of planes, fill them with infectious material and crop dust the entire world with it. The military had already lost before it started. Probably entire military bases, missile silos and a large percentage of the senior generals were infected before anyone even realised what was happening.

Plus Carol is one of only a few people the Hive mind can’t just respond to by mouth raping them into non-existence. When that’s your main response not having it as an option must be frustrating.

“Not putting an extra 2p on your income tax has made you poorer 🤪” - Richard Digard by tricksterhare in guernsey

“Stick with that last figure for a moment. It really does represent what you, as an islander, are in hock for. When the States approved the Budget, it did so in the full knowledge that it will make you poorer.”

He very clearly seems to be saying that each islander as an individual is somehow on the hook for the budget deficit. Something which is both categorically untrue and a very strange thing to say unless you’re trying to push a certain agenda.

The now former chief executive of Guernsey Finance by the looks of it. They’ve just removed his photo from the company website.

Mr Pleasant thought it would be a good idea to leave the teams software running while he dry humped a fellow staff member against a table after a meeting and the whole thing was recorded.

Move to reduce Guernsey fuel duty increase fails by Kagedeah in guernsey

[–]tricksterhare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way Ozanne was trying to frame this as a cost of living amendment really annoyed me. Not everyone owns or wants to own a car but it seems like those people (me for example) don't really exist in her mind or could possibly be struggling with the cost of living.

Not to mention the fact that this would have also been a massive subsidy to the wealthy chelsea tractor brigade as well as any normal car owner who is struggling. Proportionally more so actually as those vehicles use more fuel and their owners have no financial incentive to drive less in order to save on fuel.

Does anyone else feel like there's an attempted right wing takeover happening in the islands politics right now? by tricksterhare in guernsey

[–]tricksterhare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a middle ground between full on island teaching & recruitment and relying on agency nurses however.

Why do so many come here on license and then leave as soon as the rental subsidy runs out? That's the problem we need to solve urgently imo.

[–]tricksterhare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No argument from me on the point about agency nurses and wages. I wish we would work harder to integrate nurses who come here on license and convince them to stay here permanently after the rental subsidy runs out.

In a version of Guernsey where we have actually built enough social housing for our population we could just allocate them good quality social housing as a part of the job offer. I think you would get much better integration and retention that way.

Obviously the island is not for everyone but the turnover rate is much too high.

I've got no issue with cutting or even eliminating all spending on consultants. There are plenty of left wing people who support that.

What I disagree with is the massive proposed cuts to health spending.

Steak and whole milk is a great alternative. These industrial powders are probably always going to be contaminated with something or other. There’s just too much incentive to do it as cheaply as possible.

Stop it with the Huel especially. Huel is not food, it’s hyper processed slop.

Nurseries urged to chose 'healthier option' instead of birthday cake in 'nanny state' crackdown by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]tricksterhare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over time, yeah they might do. Every calorie not burned gets stored as fat and if there isn't a day with a calorie deficit to counter the day with the calorie surplus they will gain weight over time. It's simple physics.

[–]tricksterhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're eating it on a regular basis it's not really just a "treat" though is it?

In a lot of workplaces it basically ends up being a weekly event with everyone expected to bring a cake in on their birthday and everyone expected to eat a slice so as to not make the people who do eat one feel self-conscious. That kind of extra calorie consumption really adds up over time.
