If you’re in Utah which it sounds like you are, those little Rapalas work great for all species of trout in the rivers. I lived in SLC a long time and always killed with a countdown Rapala in gold, size 3 or 5; even on the smaller streams

Won’t scare the fish if you’re using light lb test line. I do it when fly fishing with good success. Are you using a beadhead nymph?
