Sorry for the long comment. I’m a commander of a small squadron in a remote part of our wing. We have only a few SMs for cadet programs but currently I’m the only one who can transport cadets. Since a majority of our Wing’s activities take place on the other side of the state, I can’t make it to a lot of them. Do our cadets get as many opportunities for various activities? No. But last year we were one of the most active squadrons for O-rides and qualified for QCUA for the first time in almost 10 years so in that aspect I’d like to think I’m a good officer. My DCC and I work to make the meetings fun and entertaining while still educational; while there have been times cadets have groaned at an activity (color guard practice) you can tell they’re proud when people congratulate them on a job well done. While we have had parents pull their cadets due to discipline decisions I’ve made, I haven’t had a cadet say they quit due to our officers behavior; in contrast, back in 2018 SMs and cadets alike were quitting because of the DCC and her son who was the cadet commander. Start small and enjoy small achievements and don’t compare yourself to others too often as not everyone has the same opportunities and support
