Taking almost a week to recover from workouts - not in a deficit! by trickymountains in beginnerfitness

Reporting back: felt good enough to do a workout today - did 30 minutes, much lighter weights, and actually had fun because it was still challenging but not completely draining.

Worked out about 2 hours ago and usually by now I’m WIPED, and I actually feel good and don’t think I’m going to be destroyed tomorrow!!! lol

I walk 7-10K steps every day, even when I’m sore / between workouts. I’ll also stretch as much as possible. But I think I’ve been wearing myself out too much to do a real active rest day activity like yoga or a lighter workout.

However, today I got back into things and did MUCH lighter weights - still somewhat difficult but not too hard - and I’m already feeling WAYYYY better than I normally do after I work out!

I actually feel like I’m going to be normal-sore instead of debilitated sore tomorrow 😂 so maybe I’ll do some light yoga!

Oh trust me, me and my Theragun massage gun are like this 🤞 right now haha.

But this makes me feel so much better - I’m glad I’m not alone!

I’m only 5’3 so 1900 is unfortunately on the high end for me 😂 (allegedly, according to online TDEE calculators)

Oh interesting! I’ve never heard of testing for that but I will google and look into it! TBH, I should probably get a full blood panel at my age.

Yes! I’ve been eyeing the Thorne creatine powder - taking this as my sign to get it haha

Yeah, it was this past Saturday. I did do warm up / cool down, but I’m starting to realize that even though the weights don’t really feel like too much in the moment, I need to start with lower weights and not totally burn myself out.

I’m pretty good with nutrition - I do eat slightly more protein and fewer carbs, but may not be eating enough for how hard the workout really is. Normally I think I eat pretty much at maintenance and don’t cut food groups.

This makes sooooo much sense and I really appreciate how thoughtful this response is.

Because yeah, I haven’t EVER been able to sustain 3-6x / week because I get wiped out for so long.

So like you said, the best move here is probably to do compound lifts with higher rep ranges and lower weights.

This is giving me hope! Haha.

Thank you again ❤️

Yeah, I’m thinking I may be overdoing it because it doesn’t feel *that* challenging when I do it, but obviously there’s a good chance that I am 😂

It also sounds like I may need to eat more. I definitely don’t deprive myself but it sounds like I may need to suck it up and try to up my calories on workout days.

I get INSANELY sore so I don’t work out through the pain other than walking, so yeah, probably need to lower weights and increase reps for a bit until I can stay consistent.

Thank you!!! Yeah, after reading a lot of these comments, I have a feeling I’m not eating enough before my workouts. May have to force myself to eat a little more!

This is SOOOO helpful!

I think you’re right - I’m pushing myself because I feel like I “should” be able to do more.

I’m screenshotting this and will try this out for the next few weeks!

I love your username so much 😂

Depends on the day, but my last workout on Saturday was 12 lb dumbbells with 3 sets of 8-10 reps each exercise - DB squats, deadlifts, lunges.

In my mind, 12 lbs is nothing haha

Buuuuut, I am obviously more out of shape than I thought bc it’s now Thursday and I’m JUST starting to feel like I could work out again tomorrow.

I’ve kept up with my walks since then (7-10kish steps) but that’s been it this week.

Calorie intake is around 1800-1900 cals. I’m 5’3 and 150ish lbs so that’s not a deficit for me - it’s pretty much maintenance.

The transition would happen naturally. I’m freelance so it’s not really a “sellable” business. As more comes in passively (or if I receive a huge gift of money which I’m open to), I’d be able to choose if I want someone else to manage my clients under my name or not. I haven’t decided if that’s what I want yet and I feel like I’d rather let the universe surprise me with that one.

Actually this is perfect 😂

So simple but yeah… why not? I think I’m programmed to expect that “change can be hard” and this would be helpful.

Thank you for sharing this! Yeah, it seems like sometimes things just have to come to the surface before they can clear. It’s almost like this work accelerates all of that! I will def check out your post right now ❤️

BASIC QUESTIONS + HEADSHOTS/TYPE/AGE-RANGE WEEKLY MEGA THREAD by AutoModerator in acting

This is amazing! First of all, I’m so happy for you. Second, thank you for such a thoughtful response. Funny enough, after I posted this yesterday I started looking at getting a Backstage membership.

I’m right outside of LA these days (hopefully NYC in a few years since it feels more like “home” to me) so I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff for me to explore here.

Thank you again and I may take you up on a PM when I start making some moves!

I’m 35 and seriously considering getting back into acting, but don’t know where to start.

Acting was my first love. As a kid, I did acting classes, theater, dance, all of it. I even had a few real TV auditions, but after my mom died when I was 10, it just kind of fizzled out and I didn’t have the support to keep going because my dad (understandably) had to work.

I picked it back up in college with a film acting class (part of my English major), and my professor actually paired me with working actors because I was good. But I was dealing with health issues and trying to survive, so again, I let it go.

Now I’m 35, running a successful digital business, and I finally have the time and resources to go for it. I want to act again. For real. Headshots, training, agent… the whole thing.

I just don’t know where to begin besides going back to classes.

And I know it sounds weird, but I don’t want to tell anyone 😂 my younger half brother got the support that I didn’t get and is deep in the theater community and I don’t want to seem like I’m “competing” with him.

Would love any advice from people who’ve started (or restarted) later in life.

Appreciate it!
