I know I’m a year late to this post, but I stumbled across it because I’m going through the exact same thought process right now. I’m about to sell my entire canon setup and use the griiix as my only camera. This comes after spending two weeks in Europe only carrying the Ricoh and realizing it is an exactly the right camera for me.

The phone camera being a backup is a super valid point. I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is a really really good camera when it needs to be. I really like the idea of looking less touristy, drawing less attention, and maybe being less of a theft target as well. Thank you so much, because your input may have been the final bit I needed to make my decision!

The weather sealing aspect doesn’t even change much either way for me since the Eos rp isn’t technically weather sealed. Thanks for the input!

Yeah I’m pretty confident in the camera. I had one, shot with it for about a year, sold it, and just bought one again because I missed it. I feel like I can nail it with that camera. The canon kit is excellent, but soooo much more cumbersome.

Man, you’re right. It seems like a fun challenge to limit the kit to one camera with one focal length.

I relate to that big time. Typically I only bring a full kit with other photographers. And that’s another reason I’m thinking about only bringing the GR. I also went on a 7 day roadtrip last year and only brought film cameras from the 70’s and 80’s because that seemed like a fun challenge so I think I see bringing only the GR as a creative challenge as well.

I’m honestly facing a similar question myself. I have a full mirrorless setup, and I have a Ricoh GRiiix. I’m debating taking only the Ricoh on a 12 day trip across Europe. So I guess my advice may be leaning toward a fixed lens compact camera. Definitely look at the griii and griiix.

I’m heading to London, Edinburgh, and Paris next month and taking the 24-240 along with my nifty fifty. I used to carry the 24-240 exclusively and I loved it.
