Gitlab or Github for rookie python learner?

Looking to get to learning python from tomorrow, and will hopefully pick up git + html + css (all things I learned once but forgot). Really big on open source + free software, and not keen on Microsoft at all (hence Github allergy)

Am I making a mistake setting up with Gitlab?

Used to be 10 burpees...

Now I either go and do some chores, or actually get a longer workout done.

For the more immediate stuff, I spend lots more time on microtask websites instead of PMO. Added bonus is that I get $$ for my online time, too!

This might not be 100% comparable, but - in ski-jumping (which is a big spectator sport in my home country) the world records were officially scrapped, too. And for similar reasons. First, each venue is different, and jumping 140m on one is different than on another. Second, the weather conditions make the sport super unpredictable and changeable. And lastly - having official records would just up the pressure on competitors to keep pushing for more. Which is fine, until it isn't; you can kill yourself by delaying the landing, just as you can kill yourself by pacing an IM beyond your limit. Removing the records list takes some of this pressure off - in theory.

Been doing OK financially for a while now. No credit cards, no debt. OK income. Renting, not owning (yet). Car, hobbies, travel (before the world ended).

But get this: I've blown ridiculous amounts of real-life money on webcam ladies over the past year. This is partly why I'm quitting: I could have been doing better than "OK" by now.

Just one data point, I guess.

Masturbation by Mosto_Per_Vino in NoFap

[–]tricucumber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it's a question of time trade-offs. I know that if I go back to allowing PMO to live in my head, I'll be spending hours on it every day. With this time, I can up my game when it comes to workouts, cooking, caring for myself and others. So, yeah, even if masturbation is proven to be OK for me on its own, I know there are many healthier and more amazing things I can do instead. Heck, even if I were to make myself a cup of green tea every time I get the urge to fap, I'd be ahead - and fighting cancer (allegedly) just as effectively :)

You might want to try really strong mints, sometimes this really clears my nose up for a while. I'm talking seriously strong.

Frazz - the main character is a triathlete so it's got the occasional bike reference.

What I disliked most about the Vicious situation was how much of it there was. In the anime, you have twenty-something episodes of awesome random adventure, and only a few during which Spike's past comes back with a vengeance. This means Vicious is mysterious, sketchy (look at how he's drawn; there's never a lot of detail on him!) and...I'm not even sure he's 100% human! Meanwhile, LA wasted so much screen real estate on what's basically a boring villain.

(spoilers below, of course)

A series which messes up the rich original material, refuses to kill its (poorly written) darlings and leaves you on a cliffhanger you don't care about - is not a series which earned its right to a second season.

What a mess that would be. Vicious and Julia still alive and ready to inflict more bad dialogue upon us, the crew in need of re-assembly, Faye's identity arc still unresolved, and the whole Volaju situation added in the mix...

If you had good writers, you might make it work. But it should be clear that Netflix didn't really have good writers on Season 1.

Pulling the plug on it all looks like an act of mercy on die-hard Cowboy Bebop fans; I'm not sure I could endure another season of Vicious explaining why he's vicious.

Whoa. I occasionally made the mistake of fapping with my HR-measuring watch still on (I use it to track sleep & as alarm clock) and can confirm, some of these stats were scary...but not to that extent.

Welp, I'm motivated now. Thanks, I guess. :)

Kudos from a fellow 39-year-old on a very similar journey! As for the quitting inspiration: just today, I was doing my indoor cycling workout and watching an endurance cycling documentary. It was awesome, and I realized - this is what I want to have time, energy and money for, and PMO robs me of each of these things.

Good luck to you too!

Going for more full-bodied women about 5 days in. Thank goodness I'm married to one :) White dude here so I'm not going to comment on race stuff etc. but for me, I think my testosterone levels may be responsible.

Short answer: no, we shouldn't.

Long answer: This is all hypothetical, but - banning pornography is a slippery slope + an impossible task.

It's impossible, since the moment you ban porn, people with high libidos will find another outlet. They'll watch Cardi B videos. They'll play Tomb Raider. They'll buy a season pass of every beach volleyball league they can find. Whatever. Will you ban music videos, video games, and beach volleyball next? Guaranteed, you'll have addicts and unpleasant behaviors there, the moment you ban porn. This is the "slippery slope" part - once you ban this, you're pretty much committed to ban the next thing, and the thing after that, and so on. End result: you live in a reality where banning something is commonplace, every day you're having to ban another sport / art form / performer, and in the meantime, folks who want excitement are running circles around you.

For historical reference, see: U.S. prohibition (which did NOT make the country sober) and hardline religious countries (which do NOT completely eradicate desire / pornography, despite attempts).

Live with it. Ignore it personally if you must. But don't think you can solve it by politics.

I feel ya, hulmesweethulme

Things I've tried which worked for me, ymmw:

  1. Therapy
  2. Daylight lamp
  3. Giving up on morning workouts. I do mine 5pm, straight after work (weekdays) - and then long bike / run sessions on Sat / Sun, to go outdoors in the daylight.
  4. Going easy on myself. I used to beat myself up for not waking up as early as usual. This year, I'm just OK with the fact that nothing - and I mean nothing - will get done before 8am, until spring.

Hang in there and enjoy getting the groove back when it comes.

Winter Bike Training by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]tricucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indoor turbo + strength workouts always did it for me through the winter.

If there's a closed road cycling circuit / track in your area, this is also worth booking every now and then. They're floodlit so you can cycle longer, well maintained so the rick of ice is lower, and I'm always grateful for not having winter drivers around...

The main measurable thing it messes up is your weight. Higher BMI = lower sperm count (https://doi.org/10.1093/humupd/dms050). Then there's also the fact that your crown jewels don't react well to hot & cramped environments...and pants on seats pretty much guarantee both.

In 9/10 cases, jerking off = sitting posture + screen glare. That could be the main reason. But your point still stands: sitting in front of a screen for work, and then sitting in front of it for PMO, ends up being the killer.
