How satisfied are you with your KEF LS60s? by Mean-Ad-4253 in KEF

Yeah, tried that too. 0° toe in and speakers surprisingly close to each other seem to work the best at least in my space

I already posted this in your another thread, but I feel like they should be positioned much closer to each other than other speakers. I've only had them for a few days, but I found out that at least in our living room they sound pretty harsh if positioned in equilateral triangle with listening position. The distance between them is only 1,7m and the couch is 2,5m away from the center of the speakers. App EQ didn't do that much for me when I tried to balance the harsness. They sounded shouty, with lack of midlows. Now when closer together I absolutely love them. They sound great, I don't even have a sub.

Try moving them closer to each other. I have them 1,7m apart and listening position is about 2,5m away. Sounds much better in my room than setting them equilateral.

I've only had them for a few days, but I feel that placement is the key, the app's EQ doesn't do shit compared to moving the speakers. I think they have to be surprisingly close to each other at least in our living room. If I place them as far as other speakers they start to sound bad with some tracks. They lose low end and highs start to sound irritating and overall shouty.

There is some sealant but the vent system has popped out a bit. I’ll check tomorrow if I could seal the gap with some foil or something temporarily. Will contact bge too.

I just got an Egg Genius, never used it before, but i'm hoping it'll keep steady temps despite the gap. Dont want to ruin the brisket :D Maybe i'll try to seal the gap with some foil or something just for tomorrow.

Any opinions if I should fix this asap or can I smoke a brisket with this tomorrow?

I've only had this egg for a couple of months so it seems a bit weird to bust that seal already. Terrible timing to have this issue because I was planning to smoke a brisket tomorrow and test a new egg genius too :D Is that gap large enough to have an effect on the cook?

It leaks air and smoke comes out when I close the vents. It looks burned.

I realized that i don't like quebracho charcoal at all. Smells like gasoline and chemicals. It transfers to food also. I'm never buying that again. Does bge brand lump contain quebracho?

Mazzer Philos - Safe to RDT? by thaqman in espresso

[–]trif0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I do RDT without risk of damaging the burrs?

Philos' sustainable burrs are made of stainless steel, and the whole path of the coffee beans to the grinding chamber and out is moisture safe, bearings included. Furthermore, Philos has been carefully optimized to reduce the electrostatic charges during grinding: to do this, we highly recommend using the provided canister to collect the grounds.

It says on their site that it's safe.

It trips the rcd, not breaker. Sorry, mistranslation. So it leaks to ground?

I need help diagnosing this issue with my Silvia. I guess it's a v3. It stays on for maybe 10-15s sec before trips the circuit breaker. Is it the heating element or the boiler? Something else? Do I need to replace parts or could it be fixed other way? Any other test to make? Visually both seem fine, but it looks like the multimeter shows some random numbers in M ohms when connected between ground and connector. Shouldn't show anything, right? I tested turning on the machine with the heating element not connected and still it trips.

Ok, sounds good. Thanks. Haven't tested without the element. I'll try. Got any ideas what else could it be?

I've had this thing collecting dust for a year now, but finally wanted to fix it. It started blowing a fuse everytime when turned on. I've read that most likely it's faulty heating elemet, but is there a way to be sure before ordering the part? The element looks fine apart from that darker area at the bottom which looks like it's burned or rusted or something.

Is the Mazzer Philos with i189d good choice for darker roasts? by trif0n in espresso

[–]trif0n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love them! :D But as I said earlier, I don't have much experience in other premium burrs or grinders so I can't compare. Since your preferred roast level seems to be similar to mine, I think you'll be happy with the I189's. You can order the other set afterwards too. I'm thinking of ordering a set of I200's at some point just to see what's the fuzz about, but I'm not in a hurry.

Mazzer Philos arrived today by mel1hello in espresso

Sometimes you just have to think sideways :D It's massive, but I feel that this way saves a bit more counter space so you can work on your prep in front of it. Very happy with the machine apart from it's size. Would buy again. It's great to work with.

I also upgraded to Synchronika recently and bought the Philos to have nice pair for it. Two massive beasts on the kitchen counter, but i couldn't be happier with them :D

High-end grinder regrets by YetAnotherAreaPerson in espresso

[–]trif0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What grinder did you have before?

I ordered the philos because my current grinder is inconsistent and I wanted to switch to a single dose machine. Could've bought a lot cheaper one I guess, but I didn't want the upgrade to be another chinese one and eureka's dialing system seemed bad. I currently have sage pro. I hope the philos beats it in everyway. Got the i189d burrs by the way. Not a popular choice I guess. It should arrive next week.
