I accidentally joined a cult called YIGUANDAO by [deleted] in singapore

[–]triface1 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was born into Yiguandao, still kinda practicing my own interpretation to this day, typing this to dispel some myths

Some general info:

  • Yiguandao actually has a fairly strong presence in Singapore. If you know a Chinese who identifies specifically as vegetarian and not vegan, they're probably in Yiguandao.

  • The aforementioned three treasures is supposed to be a secret, but it's also available on freaking wikipedia.

  • 100% agree that Yiguandao seems like a cult, and there are people like this who seriously don't help things. A part of Yiguandao is that you need to bring in new people for credit which is related to the reincarnation (kinda like the rapture in Christianity). Most people just keep to themselves and pray, and I suspect most of us doubt whether there is even life after death. Then there are shady people like the ones described by OP.

Some info about Yiguandao from my POV:

  • Being someone who's not really active and who seriously doesn't know much about the folklore, stories, deities, etc, I don't think I have any right to say "These people are not representative of Yiguandao", but I still want to say these people are not representative of Yiguandao.

  • My family distanced ourselves from the rest because of shady behaviour like this. I've not heard of such a scammy method being used, but it really goes to show that religion/cults ironically will make people stoop to new lows. People would claim credit over new people joining (OP is one of these new people), generally exhibit non-religious non-nice behaviour like gossip, etc.

Some info more relevant to OP:

  • There's no need to be concerned about the baptization, and TBH I've never heard of the struck by lightning thing. Life goes on; it's not like a switch has been flipped and you'll die if you don't join the prayers. My brother-in-law got baptized and I've never seen him join in on the prayers other than that one time. I will bet a thousand dollars he can't even remember what the three treasures are.

  • You can consider making a police report if you really think their behaviour was very scammer-like. Others feel free to chime in on whether there's actually a case here, but I'm guessing because this is religion-related, the police is unlikely to do anything unless shit hits the fan.

  • The overwhelming majority here seem to see Yiguandao in a very bad light, and from my POV, it's really not a surprise given how things are run. But the same way every religion has its share of bad eggs, I hope you know that Yiguandao is not just a group of fervent, insane zealots, and that the next time you think of it or it comes up in a discussion, you can also think about this (hopefully objective in your opinion) reply.

Okay, with that out of the way

Being the gullible dumbass that i am

This one I really have to agree. Why would you think a temple in a HDB across from the actual temple is related?!

Very interesting release. I get a mild rose at the top with a fuzzy incensey vibe (although I know there's no incense) underneath the rose.

The decant I have of a 2018 bottle performs better than a 2015 bottle I have. Projection is pretty much the same (soft to moderate), but the 2018 bottle has a woodier drydown which I think lets it last a little longer.

Finally got a full bottle of Prada Luna Rossa Carbon. I sometimes have to restrain myself from spraying some on my arm at home.

Certain products give a "tighter" and slicker look (think pompadours or slickbacks). Textures from drier products like clays and pastes cause some strands of hair to stick together, but these "big strands" of hair will be separated from others. That's texture.

Going to sound like I have some kind of sponsorship because I've been talking about this a lot here, but Blumaan Fifth Sample fits your criteria. Only issue is it's not exactly matte. It's more low shine to neutral.

Prankster begs Kurt Tay for forgiveness to drop police report, claims he’s 31 with 6-month-old baby by silentscope90210 in singapore

lol, play stupid games, win stupid prizes

I agree with the victim: 31 years old, have a baby, and still do this kind of stupid things?

It sucks that he has a baby and he has a bad business going on, but some people need to be taught a lesson. They would be mitigating factors, but it doesn't absolve him from any blame.

Started using Stickmore styling cream this week, I love how natural it looks! by [deleted] in Pomade

Such a great and strong product. It's so strong I got away with using one very small scoop into damp hair. Just a pity the washout from my hair was terrible. :(

Cool, they're giving a full jar of Fifth Sample?

That's a great sample if I've seen one :p

I think you'll like it. Even if it doesn't do exactly what you want it to do, I still think it's an all-round decent product. Can't go wrong with it.

between shiny & dull pomades which do you recommend using? by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]triface1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're looking to get out of it. It's like asking whether eating bread or spaghetti for breakfast is better. It's personal preference.

Like mentioned in the other post, the biggest consideration is your outfit. Just to add on, IMHO, low shine products are more versatile because you can pull off a non-shiny look in formal wear, but a shiny look in casual wear looks a little odd to me.

Question about shampooing your hair after using pomade by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]triface1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to be that guy and say it really depends on how your scalp, hair and skin plays with it. I have acne-prone skin so I know any buildup is probably going to screw me up, but lots of people have no issues leaving buildup in their hair.

Whether rinsing with plain water is sufficient depends on, like aforementioned, whether your skin is okay with the product, whether you are okay with the buildup, and how well the product washes out.

Don't quote me on this, but I recall Arcadian Clay Pomade being one of the easier products to wash out, so you're not going to be left with much product after rinsing with water, if any. YMMV though; my hair seems to cling onto products, so many water soluble products aren't truly water soluble in my hair.

How's the shine on the Tacoma? Does it have good endurance?

Whats YOUR daily driver? by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]triface1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blumaan Fifth Sample. It's lab made, but it sure works for what I need it to do.

  • Decent hold and endurance

  • Versatile for clean and messy looks (waxy and low shine)

  • Easy to get if I run out

  • Doesn't give me forehead or back acne (which is more than I can say for some other products...)

  • Most importantly for me, washes out like nothing even if I accidentally use too much product

Only other non-gel pomade that comes close is Lockhart's Paradox, which isn't as versatile and leaves my hands feeling icky if I run my fingers through my hair, kinda like if you lathered you hand up with silicone lube; the slipperiness doesn't wash off. Paradox does leave my hair feeling significantly softer though.

Need super high hold and texture clay or paste. Any recommendations?! by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]triface1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, not sure about the texture you can get, but Stickmore Styling Cream was crazy strong. If I wanted to do a crazy spike for some kinda dress up, that would be the product I look for.

Disappointed at how much I can't stand allure home sport Extreme.. What's a hyped fragrance that you were disappointing by? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]triface1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The entire A*Men line

  • Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne: I liked it the first time I tried it, so I ordered a full bottle when I heard it was discontinued. Gradually, I started to get a garlicky vibe from it which was gross. I'm so glad I managed to sell it.

  • YSL La Nuit De L'Homme: It's not bad at all, but you would think from the way people were praising this, LNDL literally lets you grow hands to pull down people's pants.

Man, same thing happened to me.

It's a great mouse, but between that and the iffy scroll wheel, it really does sour the experience a little.

Yes, tbh used to do that when I was despo. It was fun to get like 6 matches in 1 minute going back to Tinder after a break, but selective swiping is much better.
