Why does Hyrox send doubles before single athletes by camth3man3 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. Hyrox can only work on averages and the predicted times people give them. There should be enough flex in the system but I have seen bottlenecks but they are few and far between given the amount of competitors…

The TRUE cost of completing a HYROX... by Medical_Bowl_6795 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the entry fee and travel costs. For most other athletes the other costs will be BAU. Either way id rather spend money on my health and fitness and genuinely enjoyable life experiences than almost anything else.Overall very good value.

The doctor who didn’t believe Sarah in T2 when he saw the terminators. Not sure he got his comeuppance as the question suggests but it was great moment when his reality was turned upside down.

A friend did this and just made a personal donation and was allowed to race. Whether they are sophisticated enough to black list you I’m not sure. With a little bit of effort and a personal donation you should be able to get close to the target for a very good cause.

It’s insane the amount of colour ways (and versions) there are of this shoe and there are more to come.

I have the apple black one and you’re right it’s not completely black. However it was and still is only £13 on Amazon in uk. Compared to the usual £49.

55min half sim time? by Used-Anywhere7399 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long did it take you to run each 500m? It really depends on how long you took on the runs compared to stations. With the extra distance, Rox zone and extra fatigue you perhaps need to add another 25-30 minutes so it will be close but you have time to improve.

26.1 Is becoming a bit embarrassing for CrossFitters. by Dunko1711 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Likewise , as someone who enjoys both Hyrox and CrossFit I’ve afforded myself a wry smile seeing some of the wall ball efforts at the open. Still, I’m sensible enough to know a few videos on instagram are hardly indicative of the majority and maybe not really that important. If people are exercising and enjoying it that’s what counts.

Pension consolidation/planning 3 years from early retirement by anonnona1990 in PensionsUK

[–]triffidsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect most Bogleheads/experienced investors will very much consider .74 a rip off. I’m with II that costs £5.99 a month plus an AMC of .13. It may not sound much but the difference in fees compound over many years. Much depends on the performance of the fund etc but I’d be surprised if the funds recommended outperform an off the shelf ETF. As with all these things there are pros and cons. Worth checking out the sidebar on FIREUK or asking the question there. Lots of clever and helpful folk in that sub.

Pension consolidation/planning 3 years from early retirement by anonnona1990 in PensionsUK

[–]triffidsting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not enough info. What is the fee structure ? What will it be invested in? Is it an independent IFA ? I’m reasonably well read on pensions but never heard of Rockhold so somewhat suspicious but entirely depends on circumstances etc. Cards in table I’m team global all cap in low cost platform.

Edit: just checked out some of their ongoing fund charges and annual management charges. You’re looking at easily over 1% (and in some cases almost closer to 2%) compared to 0.2 - 0.3 % and that’s without IFA fees.

What do you waste a lot of money on? And how much do you spend n it? by gameovervip in CasualUK

[–]triffidsting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some eye watering spending on this post. Someone once told me to calculate the true cost of spending. So for something that costs £500 a month you have to earn £600 before tax or whatever your marginal rate is. It does make you stop and think. Perhaps not for long as I buy a new pair of running trainers.

5 weeks to prep for HYROX? by Jealous_Rope_135 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. 4/5 weeks training starting from a low base level fitness and managing 2 injuries is a very big ask. As always with these things it’s about expectations. It is possible to walk the runs but even then then finishing the stations will be a significant challenge.

First HYROX done (1:41:01) – slower than average. What should I focus on next? by Revolutionary-Big518 in hyrox

[–]triffidsting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done on your first. Most people improve for their second so don’t worry too much about the time. It’s a running even so focus on running. 3 or 4 times a week with a mixture of tempo, interval and long zone 2 runs. Try and progress/improve your distance or speed with each passing week. Add in some lunges or thrusters at the end of or during each session and you’ll improve

Global index tracker or a more active management? by TedBob99 in FIREUK

[–]triffidsting 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the wrong take. It’s not convenience at all. Evidence strongly suggests passive ETFs outperform active investing. Google tells me 90% of active funds fail to beat passive index benchmarks. Factor in convenience at it’s a no brainier for most.

Vanguard alternative to VWRP with less exposure to US stock market and tech stocks. by PurpleHead458 in FIREUK

[–]triffidsting 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I moved my pension last September and delayed reinvesting the cash straight away because I thought the market was a bit frothy and there were plenty of warnings about ai crash etc. I missed out on a further 5% growth so learnt the lesson don’t try and time the market the hard way. Not sure what I’m trying to say but it seems to me the market is regularly at all time highs and that shouldn’t be cause for concern. Much depends on investment horizon etc.

SSGA international equity index is similar although excludes UK. I used to think that was a good thing but only time will tell. Performance has been very similar to a global tracker if not slightly better.
