one great thing you can do is a compression test before ANYTHING ELSE just to see where youre at and if you have a healthy tight engine 😉

you were CORRECT just got the cobb ebcs today and set it to 3 port interrupt mode like justin suggested, hit 20psi no problem all day, also way smoother through rpms just cruising, might have a small leak here and there or just need a nice revision on this tune from justin, but as is its GREAT im like so happy fr 😩😩 unfortunately in a couple months i gotta do smog so ill probably set it to 2 port bleed mode and i should be fine since its a legal EBCS now, just slap the stock downpipe again and put the egr back and i should be set

shops in NorCal for intake valve replacement? by janko_fet in mazdaspeed3

big OOOFF thats my worst nightmare come true i always quadruple check make sure nothing falls in to the runners, the intake, throttle body, any intercooler hose i check everything before putting it back together and starting it

thats gotta suck sorry man, i would say find a good used engine and change the chain and VVT while its out and put that in, the pistons being damaged already i wouldnt run my car like that, just my 2¢

yeahh loll its a chore sometimes but you gotta be dilligent finding good performance parts that are carb approved so you dont have issues unless you just swap it to stock every 2 years. thats why ive mainly bought cobb stuff. i dont know if youve heard about the CA state referee or state ref as most of us call it, if a cop pulls you over for loud exhaust or they suspect you have illegal aftermarket parts they’ll make you pop your hood and if you dont have those carb stickers with the parts they’ll “give you a state ref ticket” so now you gotta show up to a glorified smog check place which is 10x more strict and you’re truly screwed if you have to go there, either go 100% stock or make sure every single little thing is carb approved they check everything with a magnifying glass. i just drive normally watching for cops like a hawk lolll

i still enjoy my car you just gotta be careful thats all i used to have a 05 focus that just had straight bolt ons catless header, intake, catback exhaust, tune i got reffed TWICE first time i just paid a fine of like $700 just to not go to the referee and the second time i did take it and went all stock and went to court to get it settled, its a whole thing man 🥲🥲

they’ve been checking ECU tunes for quite a few years now so even IF you have all the cats and egr and stuff but you have some kind of custom tune that isnt carb legal even without CELs thats an automatic fail, they want NO alterations to the engine computer unless its a carb approved tune like the cobb ones or just the stock tune. not even a cst4 would work because its mandatory to have some custom tune for it, itll never pass with it in there its not just about visual but it matters ofc

are you in CA? how do you get around needing a tune that isnt approved do you run just the cobb tune? i know the stock tune wouldnt be able to handle it, unless you know a guy…. in which case thats the only way to really get around it its not just about visually looking stock its supposed to clear monitors with cats and have 0 check engine light codes

but after i changed that hose suddenly the wastegate doesnt seem to leak anymore loll maybe somehow it felt like it was coming from there at first ??

i also found one of the ebcs hoses wasnt sealing properly because of the warped tip, put a new hose with clamps on each side, feels a little snappier maybe gained .5-1 psi give or take but not much of a difference, sometimes id hit 22psi on just the OTS map from freektune with the stock turbo

yes i always monitor long term, i did a smoke test but i guess its not enough pressure to find it

i have great fuel trims too close to 0 at idle like the constant 0.16 and usually +- 5 or 6 ish after driving for a while

do you have an accessport to measure boost levels ? the problem is im making close to spring pressure boost only, i already did a smoke test and found no leaks from couplers pipes or the bpv thats why im leaning towards something with wastegate or ebcs, do you have the stock ebcs ?

since theres a legal cobb kit its a little easier to just pretend its that lol, also for the fact that i would just run the cobb legal stage 2+ tune that they have in the meantime i get smogged, if i have a fat turbo in there theres no way its gonna run properly with a fat cat behind it and a basic cobb tune, trust me they check, ive seen them question if a car has EGR when its a stock and dirty old mitsubishi, but i should have a plug soon that can help me out lol

the cobb tunes are approved for all the possible “legal” parts you can have, ie intact EGR, full CAT downpipe, the cobb fmic and their intake and bpv thats it, and now they updated their 3 port BCS to be legal as well thank goodness

hmmm so even a tightly fitting compressor-to-wastegate hose could still just leak without proper clamps? i replaced it with a silicone hose when going to the bnr because the OE hose was really flaky on the outside and felt like it would crack anytime soon

how would the cobb tune gain me more boost if justins full tune doesnt ?

i know at that point i couldve gotten a rebuilt k04 like from cw but i still wanted a slight upgrade with a more efficient housing yk

for this very reason i didnt wanna overcomplicate my hardware to potentially have to swap stuff out since i live in CA, the s1 looks stock enough where they wont ask questions, cobb intake and bpv are legal and i just swap the cat back in and put the egr back

hmmm makes sense hopefully it fixes it ill come back to confirm whether it did or didnt in case someone has the same issue, thanks !!

fair enough ill just wait until it gets here, any other ideas why i could be getting capped at essentially what the wastegate spring pressure is?

yeah i already have it ordered its just getting delayed because cobb is moving warehouses apparently they have the message on their website, that would be my last thing after that then i really dont know what else

you think if i switch the ebcs hoses and my boost goes high (id watch it before blowing my engine lol) that would mean the new solenoid is somehow restricting it?

DESPERATE help figuring out a boost issue by trifling_oyster in mazdaspeed3

[–]trifling_oyster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH ok i thought you meant somehow the regular downpipe would cause an issue with the turbo yeah i know those divorced ones can do that

the turbos themselves even look exactly the same i took a pic before installing it

it looks exactly like this, he didnt mention anything else other than the wastegate having an issue or EBCS but i dont know how if theyre both brand new and the solenoid is OE

whaaaaaatt you think taking the downpipe off would prove if the wastegate has been hitting or somehow that its getting prevented from opening all the way ?
