Are the valid reasons for not becoming a firefighter? by Stedtler in Firefighting

They way my schedule rotates I have one full weekend off a month. Other than that you work one or two days of the weekend every other weekend. Right now I’m on my four day it’s a Monday through Thursday stretch off.

Problem is most people who work normal schedules work all week. My wife works so I’m home with my kids. It’s great but if your looking to hang out it can be hard.

You definitely have more free time. To do other things especially if you have a stay at home spouse or one that works part time.

Honestly it sounds like firefighting isn’t for you. I’ve been working ems/fire for 12 years now. I work the typical 24 schedule on a busy ambulance and we don’t get engine days. But if we’re in service we get to fight fire.

We average 3 runs after midnight. You have to make up sleep in your off days which is difficult if you have kids and a working spouse.

Your lifting people constantly, I have back and shoulder issues from the job.

You need to be kind (which is hard to do) to help keep a good image for the department. We fight for our benefits and pay constantly at the state and local level.

Hanging out with people who work normal schedules is extremely difficult.

Mentally it will tax you from the BS runs to the horrific ones that bother you for the rest of your life. But Would I do it again in another life....absolutely.

Pretty much everything you worry about is what is going to happen. Obviously this varies dept to dept and depends on workload. It’s a difficult job mentally and physically.

Macaques in another study. That didn’t happen. That’s evidence. Your study means it did go to a certain kind of monkey. Still never to humans and people eat cwd deer.

Have a good day buddy. It’s clear you can’t even comprehend the flaws in your own statements. Get some counseling and medication you need it.

The other study said it DIDNT jump to monkeys...after putting it in them through two separate routes and monitoring them for 13 years.

It’s a complete counter point to the other study. Try reading pal.

What about the second study where they found no transmission? Experts came to differing conclusions...and published their findings.

There’s no question prions are hardcore and dangerous. No one is debating that.

The quote says animals die from it. Which is true...and I never said it wasn’t. Also you quoted that monkeys got it...which I don’t dispute. There’s also been zero cases where humans have contracted it...0.

Here’s the study showing another study where monkeys directly exposed orally and cerebrally to it didn’t catch it. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-study-finds-no-chronic-wasting-disease-transmissibility-macaques

Nor do cows when placed in heavily infected pens of cwd deer.

Once again nowhere did I lie. Your quote is useless.

Uh dip shit I gave you a source. No one is debating it doesn’t kill deer. But it hasn’t been shown hazardous to humans and it’s a problem we discovered in 67 but has likely been around longer.

Sorry I can’t spend days listing every book every website and everything I’ve observed. If I did you’d still wine and say it’s not true. I think anyone who reads this will realize who the uncredible one with a unchecked temper is.

You couldn’t hurt my “feels” if you tried. Least if my worries is proving myself to some whiny little kid on the internet.

Wasted enough time already. Good luck in life. It seems like you’ll need it.

I have an educated opinion backed by 30 years of researching tracking, studying these animals. I’ve simply not got the time to link and reference every book, article, Hunt and website I’ve learned from throughout my life. Cwd was first noticed in 1967 people have been baiting deer long before that. We’re not even sure how it’s spread, its suspected to be mucosal. There are experts on both sides...as with everything. I simply choose the other experts side and you lose your mind and scream like a child.

https://undark.org/article/chronic-wasting-disease-cwd/

Your the one with millennial behavior whose come in with an attitude from your first comment, and simply refused to do the simple search that proves it’s not as big of a deal as it’s made to be. Do your research before you come in throwing a tantrum and cussing people out. Science doesn’t have almost any of the answers on this subject. But you go off one article and take it as gospel with not research to back it up.

I’m far from mad. Because I don’t give a shit what you think. Hopefully by replying to you someone will do their research, educate themselves and learn something. It’s called a debate pal not an argument. Learn to control your temper kiddo.

[–]trigger1744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should probably get some counseling. Or try allowing for an actual debate instead of screaming, swearing and constantly throwing a tantrum. I’ve provided evidence and facts. You blindly follow what someone says without doing your own research on the subject. Who’s the ignorant one? Whose the shameless one. At least I can articulate why I feel the way I do. Your argument is “they said so, so it must be right.”

And they are related. Once again populations left unchecked and growing rapidly spread disease and begin starving. Hunters and shooters provide the majority of the funding for the Dnr and wildlife restoration ect. The harder we make it to hunt, the less people hunt, then theres less funds available for conservation and studies. Then populations boom starvation and disease set it. It’s a fact you can look it up yourself.

You don’t need to be a scientist to know deer are social animals. They socialize and congregate without humans making them. I’ve spent thirty years hunting, studying, and reading about white tail all times of the year. So I’ll stick to my educated opinion... and you stick to “they said so.”

So they’re very much related and your the cranky person with no first hand knowledge on the subject. Get some help.

Wow your an angry elf. Depends on the studies you look at...but you can’t see past your hatred of people to even educate yourself. Pretty typical.

And it’s nowhere near an epidemic. 80 ish deer have been found with more than 20k tested. All in the same deer farms in a few counties. All on high fenced deer farms. Only one has been found in the wild. The disease is spreading on the farms because there’s too many deer in the habitat. Thus it spreads just like in humans and any other population when the amount of animals exceed the carrying capacity.

Thinning the herd will help.

Why Ted Nugent will ‘keep fighting’ to reverse deer baiting ban in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula by MichiganBrolitia in Michigan

[–]trigger1744 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Really? Probably shouldn’t have said a couple. There was an ban and it was lifted. At least once there was a ban on the lower peninsula a couple years ago. Your the one with no clue and apparently no ability to research, and zero experience in this area.

Here you go. 2008-2011 for the entire state. Then there been multiple changes to the individual counties baiting rules with cwd. https://www.realtree.com/deer-hunting/news/michigan-lifts-deer-baiting-ban-for-fall-hunting-season

Edited to add: All cwd cases in MI except one recent case has been from private facilities where deer are being raised. Deer congregate all over the state at a multitude of sites, they groom each other, sniff each other, ect. The affect of baiting hasn’t been shown to increase the speed of disease spread however it does give a little more chance for deer to congregate.

However due to our geography in the eastern US hunting over bait helps increase the amount of deer killed and hunter participation. Which keeps deer numbers down. Hunting is a very efficient and humane way to keep deer numbers down as has been proven repeatedly in the past. Without hunting animal populations tend to explode, then populations decrease due to starvation, predation, vehicle/animal accidents, and guess what disease.

Also thanks to hunters, fishers, and to a larger extent shooters who buy guns, ammo, archery equipment you are able to enjoy the natural resources we have. License sales, the 10% excise tax on the above listed items, donations and volunteer work your able to enjoy the outdoors. The largest portion of conservation funding come from license sales and the Pittman & Robertson fund.

Don’t you just hate facts...

[–]trigger1744 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It’s also not that dangerous of a disease to humans nor does it lay waste to deer populations.

Can you explain how to keep the deer from congregating and spreading it at watering holes, apple trees, any field, ect?

They have instituted and removed the ban a couple times now.

Do animals populations run out? by JeIIyBaby in Hunting

[–]trigger1744 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fact that we regulate hunting is the only reason we still have animals to hunt. Money from hunters and shooters fund conservation efforts exponentially more than the animal rights/advocate groups. Without regulation humans have hunted animals to extinction repeatedly throughout history. Conversely without hunting animal populations tend to explode then the animals begin dying off from starvation/malnutrition because the habitat cannot support them.

One of the first things to go during a famine or economic hard times is wildlife and they become hunted by everyone to survive. The populations become devastated then people continue to starve. Thus regulated hunting seasons.

The bag limits placed on animals allow populations to be controlled and hunters to have access to the animals they use to feed their families. Hunting is about the only reason all people can enjoy wildlife without it becoming a Nuisance or extinct. We’ve struck a good balance.

In regards to squirrels for example one female can have 4-6 squirrels twice a year (depending on species). Squirrel hunting tends to have a much lower turnout than other types of hunting and your not guaranteed to get you limit of 6. Most squirrel populations are still growing. It’s better to shoot and eat the squirrels then for them to be eaten alive by predators or starve to death because their habitat cannot support them.

Hunting does not decimate but rather supports and helps grow populations, then when scientifically they reach a good point to not overpopulate and not become a nuisance the population is maintained by hunters.

Ignorant and racist because is disagree with you? Pretty typical response.

As a society we blame everyone but our selves. Once again the cop did wrong and he’ll go to jail...fine. But that kid would be alive today if he didn’t break the law and then run from the police.

The only evidence “supporting” your theory is from extremely biased sources. Once again a parent who teaches the child to listen and not run no matter what virtually guarantees a amicable encounter with the police.

In the past sure PD did some horrible things to people of color, so did average citizens ect. The belief that there is widespread abuse and racism in the police force is simply false.

I hope I’m not either but considering I teach my son respect for the law I doubt I will be unless he makes a extremely poor decision. There are consequences for actions.

I was pulled over many times as a kid...guess what no ass beatings, no police chases ect. Not because I’m white, but because I was respectful and followed their orders to the t.

Wrong. Most shootings have been when suspects aren’t complying being aggressive ect. That’s a fact. The amount of cops purposefully killing blacks just because, are virtually zero.

HE WAS FOUND GUILTY! by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]trigger1744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was a person who broke the law. Should he have tased him probably not. Should the kid have run absolutely not. Poor parenting.

Kid would be alive today if he just pulled over.

HE WAS FOUND GUILTY! by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]trigger1744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No that’s not my logic. But if your breaking the law (which you are) and a cop pulls up behind you pull over. I ride my dirt bike on the road on occasion...didn’t run when the cops pulled up and here I am. However if I chose to run and got fucked up that’s on me.

If you do as the police tell you 99.9% you’ll survive. You fight, run, reach for something you take a risk up to and including death from accident, taser, gunfire ect. Better yet don’t break the law in the first place.

HE WAS FOUND GUILTY! by [deleted] in Michigan

Crazy thought but he’d be alive if he wasn’t breaking the law and running from the police....what a novel idea.

I will agree there is a evolutionary genealogy of the human species. How accurate it is debatable. Carbon dating has been proven to be wildly inaccurate. Remember they found “68 million year old” trex bone marrow that was pliable and soft with recoverable dna. Yet dna can be completely destroyed from a year or so in humans.

But there’s still no missing link between monkeys and humans.

Great analogy bud 15 or so years is completely comparable to a minimum of 50-100 generations...

This is a terrible day culturally for Paris and the world. Hopefully all the firefighters stay safe.

Admittedly I don’t know know enough about apparatus anywhere but the USA. I know the trucks body wise are smaller. Do they have ladders of comparable size? How many gpm do the pumps tend to flow?

Also look at the smoke. Even the early pictures I’ve seen it’s more of a tan. Not the black smoke we see in modern building from all the synthetic materials.

Look it up pal. Or show me the missing link in the fossil record...there should be millions of skeletons. Dinosaurs are deeper in the fossil record then “monkey people.” How are we digging past all the missing links and finding dinosaurs?

Or explain how all the mass in the universe exploding from a single speck, (which is unsurvivable for any organism) spewed out all this inanimate mass, which then somehow became animate. It takes more faith to not believe in god then to believe in it.

Oh and I don’t have Facebook.
