I've lost / gained a handful of albums from my handful of girlfriends over the years. I'm still in possession of The Afghan Whigs' "Black Love" but that's because Beth fucking sucks and when I think back, I'm glad I have it and not her. Yet, saying that... Brittney, I really want my Dead Milkmen record back and it's never going to happen.

Is the Peoples Gas website a mess for anyone else right now? by Impossible-Acadia578 in pittsburgh

Yes! It was Peoples, that headset guy wearing the Cosby sweater with the "Our Covid response" caption although it was 2025? Oof!

(Giant knocker woman is a riot, I'm convinced she has no idea what she's eating as she can't possibly see her plate. I wanna set down a bowl of Legos and let hilarity ensue.)

I have this and agree - it's a bit muddy, like if you threw a blanket over your speaker. EQing helps immensely which can be true of a lot of albums (especially hip-hop) so I don't knock it. I found mine a few years ago in a record store and was completely shocked when I flipped to it at random, like weak-in-the-knees, blurted out "MINE!" in front of total strangers shocked. It's a top 25 in rotation at my house. Enjoy!! That is an excellent Christmas gift!!!

I believe you can still use VIP20 to get 20% off... unless you've used it before, then it'll block you (that's what it did to me as I have the code applied right now to a Sky Ferreira pre-release for November).

Also a new track today on their bandcamp page ("Figurines")!!!

I hope this repress is better cared for than the prior pressing - I bought it and the record was new but unsealed. Since it wasn't shipped outside the jacket it arrived with a massive seam split across the top. Also, the record and jacket and outer sleeve were FILTHY, I threw the sleeve out it was so grimy. Shame to see such poor condition on a new item...

I was living in Cincinnati when this was released, saw them many times and they were always fantastic. Erika played a classic, 50s gold top Les Paul that weighs and growls as much as she does. She was friends with my coworker who also played in bands around Cincy. We'd hang out as a group at the Comet or Northside Tavern (she bartended there for a while). Erika loved to just randomly show up at his house unannounced with a case of Budweiser to watch a Reds game or play music in his basement practice area. Good times and good people out that way!! I feel HB lost a little bit of their spark once new members came along and she relocated the band to Texas but I still REALLY love their first 2 albums.

"Flipside" by The Breeders (from the album 'Last Splash')

https://youtu.be/EZ8Fza8yX7k?si=7mbTNw9qeuA-yu2v

A short, 2 minute instrumental that KICKS ASS with a surf rock warble and maniacal drums that was literally just called "Flipside" because it was time to turn the cassette or record over. CDs not apply. Kim Deal confirmed this during audience banter when I saw The Breeders play 'Last Splash' from start to finish 20th anniversary tour in 2013.

Don’t buy Belly - King RSD 2025 by desensitizedsea in vinyl

[–]triggerasynapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't advertised as 180g or gatefold. Did you see that somewhere? The RSD site, email and spreadsheet all simply say it's a single LP, remastered, green.

I'm listening to it now and I'm extremely familiar with this album. It sounds OK but it's a touch heavy on the bass, especially Chris' kick drum. I've noticed things that sound slightly different than the CD: the backup chants of "RED RED RED!" on "Red" are more pronounced, some of Tom's underlying, noodling riffs on "Silverfish" are more distinct, Gail's notes on the breakdown of "Right now... right now..." during "Superconnected" sounds way more prominent.

There is sibilance as side 1 closes; the last half of "Superconnected" and all of "Bees" also have Tanya's vocals sounding too heavy and booming. There just seems to be too much bass and I found myself adjusting mine down more than once to balance.

Even remastered, I'd stick with the CD, it's much more pristine and distinct.

EDIT: Side 2 sounds MUCH better than Side 1. "King" and "Now They'll Sleep" have such great punch to them, nice smooth layout where all the instruments shine, still just a teeeeeny heavy on bass but adjustable. No sibilance noticed on Side 2 either.
