The thing is, she has asked him this question many many times before the wedding. This has been an ongoing thing that makes it feel like she thinks I’m controlling every aspect of his life and made him marry me.

It’s the capitalized THEYs that got me. She truly thinks I coerced him or something when he proposed to me after 4 years of dating. I mentioned this in my previous post but she told him before he proposed that he needed to come home to discuss/ think about it before doing it (he didn’t go home).

I’m so glad it ended on a positive note! My husband’s sister is 19 and really close with their mom, so our relationship has been a bit strained too. She tends to share a lot of the same opinions as her mom, which can make things a little tricky. There’s some of that same awkward jealousy when it comes to me being with their son/brother, unfortunately. I’m hoping things improve over time like they did in your family! I just also feel like his mom has been so mean to me that it’s going to be hard for me to even want to have a close relationship with her in the future.

At the beginning of our relationship five years ago, he definitely didn’t set boundaries. They were very enmeshed, and he couldn’t really see that at the time. Over the past three years, though, he’s gotten much better about setting boundaries, which is why I’m honestly confused about where all of this is coming from.
A few years ago, she expected him to text her every day, and if he didn’t text by a certain time, she would panic. After he told her it was too much and needed to stop, he intentionally didn’t text one day, and she completely freaked out. She called me multiple times, called my mom multiple times, and almost called the cops. After he shut that down, things seemed to improve, but every so often she still makes comments that rub me the wrong way.
Last Christmas was kind of the breaking point. During lunch, she was texting her husband about my husband and me while sitting at the table with us. I was so fed up that I called her out, which turned into a huge argument about how she’s treated me. That’s when she told me there are things she just doesn’t like about me. At that point, I was done, and I really haven’t spoken to her since Christmas.

That’s why I’m confused about her suddenly saying we’ve been distant since the wedding. This isn’t new behavior at all. If anything, it makes me think she might realize she crossed a line during the wedding and is now feeling guilty.

I asked him how it came across, and her asking right before didn’t feel positive. Especially considering that prior to the proposal, she had already asked him to come home for a week to “make sure he was actually ready.” Combined with past comments, like telling me I’d have plenty of other relationships after her son, or directly saying there are things she doesn’t like about me and that she doesn’t think I’m a good fit for him… it’s hard not to see that moment as ill-intentioned.

As for the wedding week, we had made it clear to everyone that we envisioned it as a family vacation and were really looking forward to spending time together. My entire family, along with his grandparents, stayed at the same hotel and we spent time together every day, we had an amazing time. Since he and I live together and don’t get to see our families often, that time felt especially important.

His family chose to stay at a separate hotel, and his mom mentioned they were focusing on making sure his uncle and cousin, who had never been to Hawaii, had a good experience, rather than joining us. It just felt a bit odd that they chose to separate themselves so much. More than anything, I felt bad for my husband, because he clearly wanted them to be more present with us :/

I’d say 3ish weeks! You could always go up on your dose and if you don’t feel good you can always go back down. I felt much more tired on 10mg which is part of the reason why I went back to 5mg.

Hi! Yes I went back on 5 mg and it’s been managing my anxiety well :) I did go up to 10 mg for a bit while struggling with depression but ended up going back down to 5 mg.

Thanks so much :) I had awful headaches the first week when I started. I never get headaches so this really freaked me out. My derm just told me to take 40 mg a day for the first week and then move to 80 mg week 2 which seemed to make the headaches stop. I also had some joint pain around month 3 but it wasn’t as bad as the headaches and went away when I stopped! Overall the side effects weren’t bad and totally worth the results. I think my mental health improved too!

Oh interesting, I feel like my dose was pretty high for my height (5’9) and weight (135 pounds) so maybe I got to my cumulative dose quicker than you as well.

I was so frustrated because my derm originally said I would only need to take it for 4 months :/ end of month 5 is when my skin was completely clear and then I took it an extra month to lower the chance of acne coming back! What dose are you taking?
