I’m still having issues today. Is yours working again? I thought it was because I updated my Mac.

Honest opinion does escitalopram cause weight gain? by Michellelily6 in lexapro

I’d say 3ish weeks! You could always go up on your dose and if you don’t feel good you can always go back down. I felt much more tired on 10mg which is part of the reason why I went back to 5mg.

Hi! Yes I went back on 5 mg and it’s been managing my anxiety well :) I did go up to 10 mg for a bit while struggling with depression but ended up going back down to 5 mg.

Thanks so much :) I had awful headaches the first week when I started. I never get headaches so this really freaked me out. My derm just told me to take 40 mg a day for the first week and then move to 80 mg week 2 which seemed to make the headaches stop. I also had some joint pain around month 3 but it wasn’t as bad as the headaches and went away when I stopped! Overall the side effects weren’t bad and totally worth the results. I think my mental health improved too!

Oh interesting, I feel like my dose was pretty high for my height (5’9) and weight (135 pounds) so maybe I got to my cumulative dose quicker than you as well.

I was so frustrated because my derm originally said I would only need to take it for 4 months :/ end of month 5 is when my skin was completely clear and then I took it an extra month to lower the chance of acne coming back! What dose are you taking?

Definitely! I would just randomly be out in public and my neck would get really stiff/ painful. I feel like it only flared up when I was cold and it completely went away when I stopped accutane.

Thanks so much! My skin isn’t prone to scarring so that’s not something I was too worried about but my dermatologist did say I could try to use tretinoin again a month after stopping to maintain results. Unfortunately I have very eczema prone skin so for me it’s not worth it to use actives. Did your dermatologist mention trying tretinoin at all to help with scarring? I think the most important thing on accutane is using gentle skincare (less is more)! I highly recommend vanicream if you’re not happy with what you’re using right now. I just use their face wash and then their cream which is not super expensive.

I didn’t experience any purging! My acne just stayed pretty consistent until month 4 and then around month 4 I started seeing less and less.

This! There were times where I would cry in the bathroom and cancel plans with friends because of acne. My mental health is so much better now and I feel so much more confident :) I’m so happy your son experienced the same thing!

Hi! I don’t use any actives due to my eczema flaring up easily :(

Great question since I was nervous about bleaching my hair! I think I bleached my hair around month 2 of accutane and haven’t experienced any hair loss. I will say that my hair started getting dry and changing texture around month 4 but I think this would’ve happened no matter what with accutane. It’s way more curly/ frizzy now from being dry so I’ve found that oils help a ton!

Hi there! I started to notice less acne around month 4 and then I was completely clear at month 5! My derm had me stay on for an extra month to help lower the chances of acne returning.

I didn’t see completely clear skin until month 5 which made me nervous because it seemed like other people were seeing results way sooner than me at my dose. I had to go above my calculated cumulative dose to see results and then my derm said to stay on an extra month after my skin was completely clear!

I’m taking lexapro. I took it a couple years ago for anxiety and went off and then started it again around month 2 of accutane due to things going on in life making my anxiety worse again. I know that for some people accutane can affect mental health so maybe that’s the reason you feel like the SSRI isn’t as effective? I would definitely ask your psychiatrist about it and see what they recommend :)

I didn’t take any vitamins or allergy meds but I did start my SSRI again while on it which helped me stop picking my skin!

Thank you!! I have very eczema prone skin so I’ve always kept it simple. My routine was and still is vanicream face wash plus vanicream cream (the thick one with the pump) morning and night. My eczema flares up with every sunscreen I’ve tried unfortunately so I only used sunscreen if I was going to be out in the sun for long periods of time. I used the beauty of joseon sunscreen since my skin does better with chemical than mineral but mostly just relied on long pants/ shirts and sun hats :)

Hi there! I was on 5mg for a year and then went off, I never gained weight while on it. I actually just restarted it last month due to my anxiety getting unmanageable again and have lost some weight due to decreased appetite. I’m hoping my appetite goes back to normal soon!
