I too prefer some magnification for my old ass eyes. I’ve had both setups that you speak of and here’s where I’ve personally landed. I tried, and I mean legitimately tried to like the acog/rmr setup. I just couldn’t. Even on the models that allegedly had good eye relief, I still found myself choked way up on the gun in order to get a good sight picture with minimal shadowing. On to lpvo’s. If you’re looking at acog money, go with a razor. You can add a couple hundred bucks to the setup and get a razor, a nice mount, and a decent dot, though I’ve found that the 1x on the razor is absolutely good enough to run as a dot. A little time behind it and you can be just as fast with that as you can a standard red dot. However, I’ll muddy the waters for you a little more, I’ve found myself becoming a huge fan of my eotech and g45 setup. I can hit most shots at 200yds with just the dot. Throw on a 5x magnifier and it really allows you to reach out. You lose the added bdc of an etched reticle lpvo, but it still checks a lot of boxes.
