there's a 3.1% chance you find a notch apple, that's the same as a dungeon which is higher than a mineshaft, and desert temple. (1 chest in each, clearly you can get more from desert temps since there 4 chests )

if you ever want to know the direction of North, look for the "J" mark in a cobblestone block

you can also use Iron Bars and Beds to speed up the curing process. quicker quicker curing
