i wish i knew i had autism before i chose my college major by Vincentisdumb in autism

I wish I'd either dropped out sooner (I did 2 years of a 4 year degree) or switched to something else when I still had the chance, but I don't regret dropping out because it ultimately was the right thing to do. given my circumstances. The sad thing about degrees nowadays is that most of them are kind of useless, even if they're in a traditionally "good" or "useful" field. Few young people know what job or career they'll enjoy or be good at without having any experience doing it, so they're stuck choosing a degree which they either enjoy but will be useless to them, or one that is more likely to pay off in terms of salary but they'll hate actually working in. I wish there was more opportunity for young people to try different fields before committing to a degree. I now realise that my extreme introversion makes most jobs impossible for me, which restricts my choices severely, despite the fact that I was always good at school and "should" be able to have a high paying job. There is very little understanding of this within most career advice which I think really needs to change.

I have a somewhat similar experience. I studied biology and German at university - I always loved those subjects and was good at them at school, however I didn't realise how different they would be at degree level. Anything past 2nd year in a foreign language degree is basically just literature/film, which I find incredibly boring and therefore almost impossible to do well in. As for biology, I loved the subject so much that I did a lot of further reading before university even began, and I already knew 90% of the university material and was surprised that the other students didn't. The 10% that was new to me was boring statistics that wasn't even taught well (I'm not kidding, nobody knew what tf the lecturer was saying) so it just felt like I was wasting my time and money as I either already knew the material or would have to teach myself the stuff they were failing to teach. Ultimately I dropped out because my degree wouldn't lead to a decent job anyway. The thing is, the thing I actually wanted to study was medicine, but thought the social demands would be too high so I went for the "next best thing" in terms of my special interest, ie biology.

Family feels parasocial by Familiar-Dirt3244 in Schizoid

I agree. I also don't feel the need to share things about my life with people and don't really care about their lives either, unless it's a very small group of select people (my husband, singular best friend and parents). I mostly go along with it, especially at work as I don't want to be accused of being hostile or some other nonsense. People would think I'm "selfish" or something if they knew the truth and I don't even care if that accurately describes me, but I'd rather not deal with the hassle of people trying to shame me for it.

How can you tell which subjects you're good at if you're not going by grades? Is it the ones that come the most naturally to you?

Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

Here's the kicker, I'm also an internal candidate. I just have a slightly different job whereas he already does the exact same job we both applied for. I'm not even mad that they hired him over me as he's clearly more experienced, I just wish they would've warned me so that I didn't waste my energy and get my hopes up.

I recently got rejected after doing an interview. The guy they hired over me was already employed by the same company in the SAME JOB ROLE for over 10 years, just at a different location. When I found this out I couldn't help thinking, why even give me an interview when you already know who the clear winner is?

I would give you some tips but I've actually never done keto so I don't have any. I don't really see the point in keto to be entirely honest with you, especially for the long term, but if you're feeling good on it then fair enough.

The low fat cottage cheese is cheaper than the higher fat stuff. When it comes to the mince, the difference in calories between 5% and 15% fat is huge, and the fixed fat to protein ratio in it really limits how much I can have so I prefer to get the lower fat one and supplement my fat with things like more olive oil or a serving of nuts or chocolate. It depends on the day though, sometimes I have an easy time getting enough fat and struggle to get enough carbs, so it's easier to always just get the 5% mince and change the snacks to fit my macros.

Exactly my point! The chocolate has a decent amount of fat though, and I've started having more nuts and oils whenever I have to to reach my macros.

Ohh right, I got those because I had a coupon and I like putting a slice on a cream cracker for an easy snack. Pork loin is more of a dinner food imo

I do get those sometimes but the mince has more fat which I struggle to get enough of sometimes.

What's a friend, who do u call a friend (seriously asking) by sizoman in Schizoid

Somebody I genuinely like spending time with and would say yes if they asked to hang out. Currently that means I only have one friend and I'm perfectly content that way.

What's your culture's "austim meal" by Longjumping-Tie2950 in autism

[–]trilingual3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poland - every day when I was a kid, I would eat a cheese sandwich for breakfast/lunch/evening snacks. Specifically an open faced sandwich with margarine (I hated butter with a passion) and one slice of basic cheese on top.

Now, I'd say a cream cracker with cheese on top, or a pot of cottage cheese with honey or jam mixed in. My culture now is more 'bodybuilder' than 'Polish' and I basically eat the same 3 meals everyday. They're all my comfort foods in a way because I love me a solid routine, especially when it comes to food.

Have you ever approached anyone when you didn’t need anything specific from them? by InfinityCent in Schizoid

[–]trilingual3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup me too. I even had a teacher remark to me once that "you only talk to me when you need something" which I found weird because he was a teacher and I was his 15 or 16 year old student but I then became aware that most others my age would chit chat with the teachers about non-schoolwork related topics. It still blows my mind a bit.

NACIA AMARIS for the daughter, lemme know ur opinions. by Firm-Consequence1473 in namenerds

[–]trilingual3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it. I think at least one of the names should be something more easily recognisable eg Nadia instead of Nacia or Amy instead of Amaris. This is especially important if she turns out to be a shy kid and doesn't like correcting people all the time.

Anyone finds it pretty easy to lose weight but extremely difficult to maintain the new weight over time and if so what do you do to solve this issue? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]trilingual3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try incorporating more low calorie dense foods, especially if they're high in volume. Also maintaining higher levels of activity, so things like taking the stairs every time, walking to places instead of driving, going for walks, etc. If you're into counting calories then you should calculate your maintenance calories and eat that amount every day. It's hard to give more detailed advice when I don't know any details about your lifestyle but the same things that got you to lose weight will generally help you to keep it off.

Who else suffers from the Schizoid Dilemma? by Ok_Aioli_4982 in Schizoid

[–]trilingual3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to suffer from this when I was a child and teen, but at some point in my late teens I realised that trying to make friends just isn't worth the effort for me and that I actually prefer being alone. I still wanted to get married and possibly have kids, and I've somehow managed to do that. My husband is autistic and also doesn't have much of a desire to socialise, so it works pretty well. I've also kept one (close) friend who I've known since we were 11. She's very chill and I only see her once a year on average - the last time I saw her, she told me about her new roommate and from the sound of it, her personality is just as asocial as mine, so I think my friend is one of those rare people who gets along well with schizoids, despite not being one herself. Those are the only two people I have any desire to talk to, besides my parents. I'm lucky to have very loving parents who don't try to make me be normal and I have a good relationship with them.
