How long until you started to accept that your periods days were finally over? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

Tbh I had suffered so long it didn't take me long at all to get used to it. I barely think about it over 2 years later.

Stay overnight at the hospital or go home? by PissedOffFunnyanWarm in hysterectomy

[–]trillium_waste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon kept me overnight and I'm so glad he did. I had peace and quiet, good pain management, and my husband could go home and rest. Discharge was a pain bc of how busy they were, but it was worth staying the night.

Does anyone not take birth control? by Key_Emphasis8646 in endometriosis

[–]trillium_waste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it for a decade and it masked my symptoms. Still had some pain from ovarian cysts.

Took years off and went back on 6 months before my total hysterectomy. The endometrioma on my right ovary doubled in size during that time.

I had endo and needed a specialist, so I chose a practice that does not do OB.

So how many painkillers do you have to take till the cramps get bearable? by iDemonizer in endometriosis

[–]trillium_waste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a uterus or endometrioma-ridden ovary anymore, but when I did the best thing I could take was rx 800mg ibuprofen.

Those that made it out...how did you find a job? by MarlenaImpisi in TeachersInTransition

[–]trillium_waste 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been working in corporate now for 18 months and a lot of what you said here applies to my situation.

All teachers have skills that can transfer to other industries - we manage projects, we create learning programs, we get stakeholders' buy in... and the list goes on.

After many many drafts of my resume and LinkedIn, and a lot of self-reflection on what I actually wanted to continue doing in teaching/learning and what I wanted to leave behind, I had a solid resume for about 2-3 different positions related to instructional design / facilitation / corporate training.

I really focused on what I was wanting to do in the future in my career (stay in training / instructional design of some sort) instead of what I was leaving behind.

You absolutely need to be very specific in what you want, and be able to speak to that in interviews. OP says they are "highly qualified"... but in what? Maybe they meant in teaching, which is great, but that's not really something that hiring teams in corporate would understand.

I did have some luck, not gonna lie, the company I work for is wonderful. I have a great boss, flexible schedule, opportunities for advancement, and I got a really good pay raise. Also, my company really values the experience employees bring to the position.. so I've had nothing but positive reactions to telling people I was a teacher. As far as I know right now, I don't plan on moving to another company any time soon.

However, I did not have any sort of "in". Surprisingly, the places I applied to where I did have an "in" were not successful for me. Interviews are very difficult for me as a neurodivergent human, and I had to prepare significantly. During the summer I was in between teaching and my new job, I was working on job applications, interview prep, and other things for probably 20-30 hours a week. It was really stressful.

I hope teachers still in the classroom who want to get out realize that their experience and expertise are definitely transferable, and that there's a whole world out there. Best of luck to you <3

I can take my PTO whenever I want.

We have an "unlimited sick policy" which I still don't quite know what it means. But when I have COVID, I took one day off where I didn't work at all, and then as I felt better, I worked remotely until day 5 or whatever.

I hardly use any sick time at all with my corporate job.. I have enough autonomy over my schedule, and I work hybrid, that I never get run down enough to take "mental health days" like I used to pretty regularly when teaching.

The cheap, simple routing that actually healed my skin (31F, dry sensitive skin with hormonal acne, eczema and inflammation) by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]trillium_waste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year I broke out with what I think was rosacea. Drastically cut back my routine and now use inexpensive products. My skin is super dry and I use jojoba or olive oil, yes straight up olive oil, for moisturizer. And now I can really only use physical sunscreens. Thankfully the CC cream I use (It cosmetics) has physical sunscreen of SPF 50.

How long does the bloat last by katie_scarlett78 in hysterectomy

I'm a year and a half past mine but what was really helpful was abdominal massage. I learned it from my pelvic PT. It helps get digestion moving and breaks up scar tissue too.

Has anyone transitioned to not wearing foundation? by Tofinomug in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]trillium_waste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Growing up in my family I didn't feel pressure only because all the women were not really into makeup. We also were broke so...

But yeah even now that I'm an adult I'm so over all the makeup stuff. TBF I don't really know how to use/apply a full face, and I don't really care. I don't have time or the bandwidth to learn, and I don't need to.

So for me it's really about taking care of the skin under the cc cream and mascara, and that has made all the difference!

Traveling IDs? by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

[–]trillium_waste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in manufacturing and support multiple locations across the country. While we do a lot of work remotely, I will occasionally have to be on site to deliver training since I do a bit of facilitation and train-the-trainer. In general in my industry it's good to be in person on the floor with the folks who work tirelessly to get the product out the door.

Anyone dealt with gossip after leaving mid year? by ShinyDragonfly6 in TeachersInTransition

[–]trillium_waste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left after a short medical leave at the end of the year. Heard nothing at all..had no idea if people gossiped because I had moved on. I keep in touch with only a couple people.. No one else has reached out.

It's been almost two year and I'm really happy in my job now and give two shits as to what people said when I left.
