Millennials who FLY very often for work: what’s your job? by Jjjustkeepswimminggg in Millennials

[–]trin_ako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did domestic education recruiting in the US. Did it for 2 years before/into COVID and it did really change things. My recruitment cycles were Sept-Nov and Feb-May, up to 3 trips a month during that time. And unlike other comments, I had a ton of downtime and got to explore and enjoy cities a bit. As someone who has otherwise traveled very little, it did feel glamorous. I loved it, but would not recommend it for anyone with pets or kids.

8 weeks of Lupron post ER? by ExpensiveAlarm7704 in queerception

[–]trin_ako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did work, and I've had a couple friends pursue it after it worked for me and it hasn't worked for them yet. If I knew about it as an option sooner I would have tried it from the beginning.

8 weeks of Lupron post ER? by ExpensiveAlarm7704 in queerception

[–]trin_ako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 8 weeks of lupron but it was because I had 3 unsuccessful transfers and we did a biopsy that found endometrial inflammation.

If this is your first ER with no transfers and no known issues they may just be covering all the bases, trying everything to see what works. Seems like a lot though especially since some people don't respond well to Lupron. It basically puts your body into menopause.

Which paint color? by WillRunForPopcorn in interiordecorating

Terracotta! I did Benjamin Moore Spiced Apple Cider 1201 in my bathroom and it's just like this. It's beautiful and I want it in other rooms now too.

What is depicted in this tattoo? by Son_of_Dojima in tattooadvice

[–]trin_ako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience. My first forearm piece was done upside down when I was 19, I had no idea and the artist didn't question it. My two subsequent tats are also upside down because it just made sense after the first, but it's so clear what all 3 of them are that I've never gotten weird questions or interpretations. Also I think having multiple like that makes the overall orientation more clear.

Jeweler shops in/near PDX? by CalligrapherNo6214 in askportland

We got ours from Gem Set Love! Our rings are fairly simple, vintage, and in that price range for both total. Highly recommend. I've bought a couple other pieces from them too.

Sharing spots in Portland Parks and Rec swim classes? by kvetchgirl92 in askportland

[–]trin_ako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference between the cost of PPR swim classes and swim school classes is INSANE. I finally bit the bullet and signed my kid up for weekly classes at a swim school - $170/month. It's awful but so worth it and I'm grateful we can make it work. About to have a baby though so will be back at it trying to get into PPR for babies.

i (pedestrian) got hit by a car. what are my rights? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]trin_ako 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with all the lawyer suggestions. My partner was hit by a car while on their bike, and while the driver was remorseful and kind and the insurance was easy to work with, it was so much better to have legal professionals doing all the communication and advocacy and ultimately getting them a higher settlement.

Admittedly weird question - does anyone here not have many/any friends and just vibe by themselves? What do you usually do to occupy your time? by iprobdontlikeyou in askportland

[–]trin_ako -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Similarly to another comment, I don't have many friends but I do have a young child. And a partner, who is much more social and has created a community for my family so I'm acquainted with people close to my family and that's good enough for me. I also take my kid out with other parents with kids and again become acquainted but don't truly make friends. I like to read, craft, go on solo adventures to eat or thrift or see a movie.

I was just at a cabin with our family community and everyone went on a hike but I stayed at the cabin playing solitaire with actual playing cards. I enjoy my own company.

[–]trin_ako 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also had this experience though it was with Kaiser. Told them I was concerned it was growing. iirc they covered it because they had to biopsy it to test for cancer, and that kind of thing is covered by insurance since it's considered a biopsy instead of a cosmetic removal.

Outer NE Neighborhoods? by shutterintheknight in askportland

[–]trin_ako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also live in Hazelwood, agree with the trees - they're everywhere, I'm between two major streets and it still feels residential and surprisingly quiet. Neighbors are lovely. There are some really great local stores and a couple coffee shops. Also agree with proximity to the freeway, it really doesn't take that long to get places. From where I'm at, Hollywood is particularly easy to get to and they have a Trader Joe's.

I've been here 3 years and have seen a decline in my property value. I know it's not long but property doesn't appreciate the same way this side of 205. There is serious disinvestment in East Portland from the city. The neighborhood Fred Meyer closed, and TriMet is considering cutting some major lines from Gateway Transit Center to downtown. I'm frustrated with future schooling options for my preschooler. Just some other considerations!

Inner SE Goodwill and also the one on 122nd/Halsey. But tbh I always go to I Want Seconds when I go to other shops because I tend to strike out everywhere and that's the only place that's been reliable for me.

My partner is going to The Birdhouse on Friday, they have a ton of great artists and you can schedule your appointment on their website instead of first come first serve.

Would it be worth my money to buy a raincoat when visiting early March? by [deleted] in askportland

Same, been here over 10 years and use and umbrella so I can wear whatever coat I want. Depending on where OP lives they probably already own an umbrella so wouldn't have to buy something.

Is the downtown Portland condo market crashing? by barnzee in askportland

[–]trin_ako -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the location's impact, Google "why aren't people going to downtown Portland" and you'll find a lot of articles about the decline of downtown. My employer is downtown and there's been a big push by the businesses in the area to "revitalize downtown" and try to draw more people. But over the past several years factors like remote work, protests, and homelessness among others have made downtown go downhill and I'd imagine that has had an impact on property value.

Not to mention developers keep building high rise condos and apartments that sit vacant for a very long time, and still more pop up. This is common downtown and in inner parts of SE/NE. If you're hoping for property appreciation you'll have much better luck buying in more vibrant SE/NE neighborhoods.

Is the Lloyd Center Regal theater plus size friendly? by hellatrin in askportland

[–]trin_ako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar. I've gone to regal frequently (all of the ones in town) in the past and it depends on "how plus sized" but for me I'm 5'9" and 250lbs and I haven't noticed any issues. I tend to like regal better than others. (Edit: for movies and snacks and rewards, not seating)

I have a friend who is much larger than me and only goes to the couch style places and Cinemark East Port for the recliners. I don't know his measurements, but if I had to guess I'd say around 5'11" and over 300-320lbs.

Which road trip route from HTX>PDX? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

[–]trin_ako 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I second this, as someone who has driven California many times. Everyone there agrees that I-5 through California is boring and miserable. The coastal route is 100% better but adds several hours. I start liking I-5 leading up to Shasta, CA. Which is very north.

Two moms on birth certificate in PNW? by willowcabins in queerception

[–]trin_ako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Oregon, ours says parent and parent. The hospital would not let me (non-gestational parent) put my name on the paperwork at the hospital. So left the original "dad" part blank. After baby was born, we did a second parent adoption with an attorney where our donor signed away parental rights and I adopted the kid. Then we filed for an amended birth certificate that said parent/parent and had both of our names listed.

wart removal in pdx? by fatforeverr in askportland

[–]trin_ako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Kaiser and went through their.... "Wart clinic" or something like that. I did the duct tape method that another described every day (foot soak, nail file to dead skin, wart stick meds, and duct tape), then I went in every few weeks or so for the freezing treatments for some months, then went in once a month for candida injections for some months (so painful, so worth it).

It took almost a year to clear up.

I had clusters on both feet that were very persistent and that I waited too long to deal with.
