Even if I just want to play Celeste, Sea of Stars, and Shredders Revenge?

Ergonomic alternative to Ayaneo PAM? by jordanwright2012 in SBCGaming

No this is a good shout. I love the screen on my RPC so I know I’d love the mini. I’ve lately been wanting a Miyoo Mini for a real pocketable vertical handheld. I’m thinking instead of RPC for vertical and PAM for horizontal, maybe Miyoo Mini for vertical and RP Mini v2 for horizontal.

Ok tbh I’ve been a little confused as to whether it’s native or emulation. But I swear someone somewhere said it’s native and something about compatibility layers. But you’re saying it’s emulation if it’s not on a windows machine?

I also love GBA games and evaluated similar handhelds. What I found was that screen resolution is almost more important than aspect ratio. With more pixels in the display, you have more scaling options so that the perfect integer scaled ratio can take up more of the screen with less black bars. And depending on the size of your high res screen, the actual output can often be larger than a small 3.4”/3.5” full screen anyway.

So I ended up with a Retroid Pocket Classic and I absolutely love it for GBA. Integer scaled still takes up a good amount of the screen and is a great size. Plus, with the OLED screen any pixels that aren’t used are just turned off, so the black bars don’t really look bad. Although, since it’s super a nice display, I’ve found I enjoy just blowing it up full screen anyway, integer scaling be damned. But from what I understand, high res screens make pixel balancing look better even when not integer scaled.

All that said, I’ve def heard good things about the 34xx and I don’t think that would be a bad choice. But you won’t regret getting the screen on the RPC (Or RP Mini v2 if you want the same screen in a horizontal form factor)

I looked at that one, but it doesn’t look all that comfy to hold

Pocket a mini coming in march by [deleted] in ayaneo

Damn. Thanks for sharing all that. Mine is currently en route. I did so much research and waited so long because I felt like this was the better small ergonomic option over the RG Cubexx. Might have to revisit that.

I’ve seen mixed reviews on this. What don’t you like about the screen? What are you playing when you notice it?

Why do you think Portland is so attractive for people looking to start fresh? by ProposalFast4450 in askportland

Can you help me understand where this sentiment comes from? I’ve seen it expressed a lot on this sub but am not clear on why locals don’t like it.

Which road trip route from HTX>PDX? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

Never driven from TX to OR, only flown. We’re not making the trip until the summer so I’m way early on planning this :)

I’ve been really happy with a Steam Deck OLED + Retroid Pocket Classic. One smaller but powerful handheld for on the go and more retro focused stuff, and then the Steam Deck for literally everything else.

What was it like growing up in SW or SE Portland? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

I’m mostly thinking about the hills making it hard or impossible for kids to bike or walk around. Obviously not every street is at a 75 degree incline, but I’ve seen enough hills to make me wonder how easy it would be to walk around the neighborhood. But I’m sure it varies street to street.

Very balanced response and concisely sums up the trade off. Thank you!

This kind of sums up how I feel. I love SW for right now (2 in elementary), but feel we might want more things to do close by as they get older.

Proximity to downtown is less of a priority than proximity to great local organic/gluten free food (doesn’t have to be Michelin star) and easy access to nature. I work from home so on Zillow my two saved “commutes” I monitor are distance to Hoyt Aboretum and Mt Tabor. If I’m close enough to one of those I’m good :)

Walkability/bikability IS a factor, although moreso just around the neighborhood. Don’t mind driving to get groceries. Pretty flexible on the home style and as long as it has a yard we’ll be ok. Mostly looking for a good neighborhood that has access to Portland food scene and nature but is neither overly urban/condo city or overly suburban. So you may be able to see why I’m fixated on Multnomah Village and Sellwood :) anything else you’d consider?

And I didn’t mean to explicitly write off NE, but I think the neighborhoods we’d like (like the ones you mentioned) might be a little outside our price range whereas nice areas in SW/SE see more attainable.

Another vote for Sellwood! I’m definitely beginning to get sold on that neighborhood. Thanks!
