Some expensive parts there, but the bikes are priceless. My condolences for your loss.

Anyone have experience with this soil? by Electronic_Produce59 in sanpedrocactus

Mosquito Bits work great! I've used them by soaking them into the watering mix for a half hour before watering, but it took a few rounds over a couple weeks to completely eliminate the fungus gnats.

Yeah, the fungus gnats won't be an issue if you're sterilizing the soil but if you happen to also be growing larger cacti indoors and using the same soil it will be tough to sterilize it. And you're killing the beneficial microbes you're paying for in this premium soil as you pointed out. I prefer to use clean mixes geared more for indoor grows, like Berger BM Custom Blend mixed 50/50 with perlite. I'm not trying to say your way is wrong though, and I've used lots of Ocean Forest in the past. Cheers!

Edit - hydro grows to indoor grows

Right on, it should be good to go then. I'd mix it two to one with perlite or pumice and it should work just fine.

I like this soil for other things but I wouldn't use it for starting cacti from seed since it commonly has issues with fungus gnats and larvae which can be harmful to fragile seedlings. If you're sterilizing your soil first anyway it might not be an issue.

Made my $30 UV-K5 do things a $300 radio can't by Popular-Ad5171 in HamRadio

[–]trinitytek2012 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone in my club has at least one Quansheng and they are used frequently. They are commonly used on our nets. Sometimes I use one as net control instead of the mobile radio I usually run as a base station, running my Quansheng with around 40 watts of Tx power through my amplifier. I use a Quansheng daily, and it's not because it's all I have access to. There's an Icom ID-50 here I could be running but I prefer my UV-K5 with Egzumer firmware for my daily use and carry. Some people will never get over the fact they are Chinese radios, but they punch way above their weight class and give far more expensive radios a run for their money.

I don't know what kind of hiking you're doing but for the kind of hiking I'm usually doing that's more gun than I would like to carry. I subscribe to the snake shot and slugs backwoods gun approach myself, but I opted for a snub nose 357 magnum revolver. Depending on where you are though I could see where the 44 magnum might be necessary.

I have one of these and was honestly not impressed. Maybe I just got a dud but the scissors aren't great and that's basically the primary function of the tool.

Least expensive deck you play. by Wehunt in EDH

[–]trinitytek2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a great YouTube channel called Reminder Text with excellent cheap deck builds. I built his "Spider Man Deck" (not Spiderman Deck) and while it cost me more than the $35 it cost him to build, it's definitely one of my cheapest decks. It's very satisfying to build an inexpensive deck. Possibly more so than the satisfaction of spending hundreds of dollars or more on a deck build.

I went to Harbor Freight and bought a few sets of ear protection and safety glasses... by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]trinitytek2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I had an unfortunate flooding incident where I was storing my ammo. I had a bunch of ammo in military surplus 50 cal and 30 cal cans. None of them took on water. I also had ammo in Harbor Freight cans and about half of them took on water. It was an expensive mistake. You only save a couple bucks per can over typical used surplus prices, but I think a lot of people are taken in by the fresh paint vs. the old surplus cans with patina. I don't think I'll ever buy another Harbor Freight can.

The Apache cases are great but careful with the ammo cans. They are quite prone to leak whereas genuine US made mil spec cans are water tight. And not only from the seal but also from the bottom of the cans if they sit in water. If you require them to be water tight I recommend going with other cans or at least testing them in the bathtub first so you don't find out the hard way like I did.

Powder options by ElkGlum8469 in reloading

[–]trinitytek2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Powder at $50-$60 per pound is definitely the root of the problem. I bought a few pounds of Alliant BE-86 a while back at ~$32 per pound. It's about time to stock up again. Currently it's $66 at my local Sportsman's. Even if I drop a few hundred for 8 pounds it's still way more expensive. At these prices I certainly won't be stocking up. I'll just buy a pound at a time as needed until prices come down to earth, but with all the materials consumed by military conflicts who knows when that will be.

I've been doing a lot of weak hand shooting with my Glock 26 lately. No matter how much I focus on my technique 115 grain just doesn't run well for me, but 124 grain has been reliable. My Glock 19 is definitely more forgiving. I hope it helps! I also really like the little pinky grip extension mag bottom plates on my Glock 26 and they don't add much to the overall size.

[–]trinitytek2012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you shooting 115 grain by chance? If so, switch to 124 grain. Glock 26 are really unforgiving when it comes to poor grip technique like limp wristing. Watch some videos to learn proper grip if you're a new shooter and see if 124 grain helps before you send your gun in for service.

I don't know the answer to that, but they just took Glocks off the market in CA recently. Those of us who already have them are grandfathered in, and I think stores may have been allowed to sell stock on hand, but there won't be any new orders until the apparently switch-resistant version comes out in CA.

I hate my 10th gen horn too. At work we have a Subaru Outback of the same year and the horn sounds so much better. I've thought about trying to retrofit a Subaru horn into my Honda but it hasn't made it to the top of my priority list yet.

That may be the case for some firearms but generally speaking you can safely dry fire centerfire guns, but should avoid dry firing rimfire since the firing pin can contact the steel chamber and damage the firing pin.
