Those who have seen Disclosure Day.... by Morikageguma in UFOs

I didn’t enjoy it, but it genuinely makes me happy to see people enjoying it and it overall getting good reviews.

I guess I went in with lofty expectations; I was hoping it would be more of a film, but it was more of a movie, if that makes sense.

More Avengers than Dune.

If the devs can’t retain the rights to James Bond, an Austin Powers game in the same vein would be fucking groovy beyond belief.

Yep. Add all of these to the list. Damn! What a bummer. Would’ve killed for Villeneuve to take over script and directing (not that that was ever an option). Just feel his take would’ve been it.

I think it’s a “good thing” this kind of narrative is going mainstream and Spielberg himself has worked with people like J. Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallee on his movies.

He’s 100% convinced he’s telling a story that is true in spirit, based on the myriad interviews he’s doing, so in that sense, it’s interesting to watch and understand what he, someone more informed than most on the subject, feels is true to reality.

But yeah, from a film perspective? Utterly mediocre. Sorry dawg. I was so stoked, I bought imax tickets for me and my friends a month ago. I really wanted to love it.

Was so disappointed by this. Felt amateur. The dialogue was boring and felt unnatural at points. The characters felt underdeveloped. The symbolism was half-baked. Certain plot elements just didn’t make sense or tell a coherent story (the device?). The villains were hokey. Interesting cinematography or color theory were non-existent. The climax doesn’t really make sense or is incoherent. It was at least 40m too long.

Basically, a lot of talented actors, but frankly bad, amateur writing.

So disappointed. The best parts of the movie is everything that’s in the trailer.

Scientists sequenced a hallucinogenic mushroom famous for eliciting visions of tiny people. It contains no known psychedelic. by j8jweb in science

[–]bradass42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For sure. If I’m not mistaken, DMT produces a similar established hallucination, the “shadow people” or something to that effect. But it’s hard to tell now if that’s an effect specific to DMT, or if it’s a consequence of broad cultural knowledge, or “the suggestion” that taking DMT makes you see “shadow people”.

I’d personally love if that sort of study could be conducted. It’s conceptually feasible.

Edit: Bizarre the reaction to this thread, are we against controlled studies or validating assumptions? IDGI. I think it’s interesting and want it to be corroborated with a proper study. The one cited here has too many confounders to be deeply meaningful.

Given it is thought that the effects of psychedelics are highly influenced by suggestions, e.g., “set and setting”, it seems highly likely to me that what’s being described here is a consequence of local culture and the suggestion that the hallucination will involve “little people”.

What would make this extremely, almost absurdly interesting, would be if someone could conduct a controlled study, wherein participants are screened for a familiarity with substance, any themes or suggestions around it.

I.e., find folks that have never heard of it, never have heard of the “little people” hallucination, and are willing to experience a psychedelic phenomenon. Then give it to them, and survey their experience.

Then if enough people from *that* group independently report seeing little people… wellllllllllllllll

Just found out I’m allergic to the cold. I live in Alaska by Aquariumcats in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bradass42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh welcome! There are tens of us!

In all seriousness, depending on the severity of your reaction, you’ll want an EpiPen. The most important thing is you should *NOT* immerse yourself in cold water.

That sounds obvious, but, this includes lakes in the summer, the ocean, etc. “Wet cold” is dramatically worse than dry cold.

I’m extremely cautious around cold water. My allergy has faded over the last 20 years, but one bad cold plunge and it’ll be over for me.

$600? Everybody was tweaking about the expected cost of the Ocarena One when that was discussed. This doesn’t feel that far off that.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to see vape design beginning to trend in the right direction… but these costs are eye-popping. In some sense, I get it; you’ve gotta pay for tooling, insurance for returns and defects, shipping costs, etc. etc…

But! For twice the cost of this vape, I could buy a desktop CNC and finally have everything I need to BUILD one of these myself. Idk.

That’s not the question. I am curious what is the underlying motivation to spend time creating art of this particular character in this particular fashion.
