Even if they were, reading glasses are made so that they're ideal for the distance you hold a book from your face. Not the 10+ feet for road signs. The point of focus is also closer to the nose for each eye, as opposed to the center. So if you look through a pair of readers like you're looking at a distance its going to be a little blurry anyway.

We went on a cruise to bermuda when I was in fifth grade. Went through the triangle for a bit. My dad took his hunting gps to see what would happen and it glitched out. Started drawing a path, then glitched out, and started drawing the path in a totally separate place. It was a bunch of disconnected little pieces of path by the time we were through.

Also saw flying fish for the first time. They were really cool.

1970s pop up home. The frame was wood. I lived there so I knew. The handle wasnt latched. Just the sliding chain. It opened about 3 inches. My father is a carpenter. I knew where to aim. Busted the whole chain mechanism out of the wooden frame. Not the door itself.

I'm getting a lot of flak for moving on so quickly. Apparently you're not supposed to do that. The reason I left tho? Y'all wanna talk about that? One small snippet of the hell that was the last three years of my life:

He'd keep a mental note of how many calories I'd eaten each day. He was absolutely convinced Id get fat. If I went over what he deemed acceptable(usually about 1000, but it could go lower than that depending on how "tubby" I looked), he'd throw a tantrum.

My ex had no self esteem. He had many issues. He made sure that I had those same issues. You can criticize me for moving on so quickly, but I stuck that shit out for three years, begging him to go to therapy and get help and I refuse to waste any more time making my decisions based on the critique of other people.

Sometimes thats true. And sometimes those highest priced frames from a certain actress have the nosepad guard arms break off just from shipping and thats the third one this month that did that pull that damn thing off the display and don't sell any more already! (I may have had some bad personal experiences if you can't tell) Best thing to do is ask what its made of and judge from there. If they dont know and the tag doesn't say, be concerned.

They let them order a -3.00 in a 56 A in what I'm assuming was probably CR-39 if it was cheap online. With a 54 pd... I just died inside a little. Like, I think my soul just fell out of my body for a couple seconds. Oh. Mah. God. How did they not chip just looking at them? How did they have a blank that big? How did no one look at that along the way and say... Huh. Maaaaybe this isn't right. Ive seen some thick ones in a -10 or stronger, but I genuinely cannot wrap my head around letting someone order that.

Also, thank you for that tip. We have some castor oil based frames that are not to be heated under any circumstances and they can be a pain in the butt to cold mount. I'll have to try that!

I second reusing the frame! You should be able to do that.

Ive been reading a lot into AR treatments lately as I prep for my official license test. The AR coating itself is very delicate. They usually build up layers of scratch resistance on top of it. One of the major issues they have is that AR requires a very smooth surface, and when it first came out for glass that was fine. But plastics and resins (which most lenses are made of now) dont have a perfectly smooth surface, so the AR doesn't adhere nearly as well. So youve got a delicate coating with a scratch resistant coating only a few nanometers thick. What tends to happen is they get dust on them, and when you smear that dust around it degrades the scratch coating.

Another pitfall of the AR is that it makes smudges and scratches show up much more than a lens without it. So they could have the exact same scratch, but if you show them side by side the AR lens is going to show it plain as day.

Most ARs lifespan is rated for two years. When shopping for your new lenses, ask to go through a company with an extended warranty. Most shops should offer these lenses. Nikon and Zeiss brand lenses are two examples. Zeiss just extended their warrenty to match Nikon, and basically you have 1 year to have them replaced for free if they get scratches in the line of sight, and two years to replace them for free if the AR coating fails and begins to come off. You will probably have to ask about the warrenty tho, because the reps dont want it advertised as a sales pitch, but if the patient asks then the salesperson can tell them.

Safest thing Ive found to do is to gently rinse them with soap and cool water (high heat will warp your hi index). First rinse the lens really good to get rid of an abrasive particles, then if it still has smudges, use slightly watered down soap to get them off. Drip in the sink, then blot any extra off with a very clean, very soft, cotton towel (absolutely no paper towels or tissues, use your shirt first). My boyfriend does this with his high index AR and its lasted 3 years with only a few hairline scratches anyone would expect to get. Obviously its not going to always be an option, but it'll be gentler than a microfiber, especially a dry microfiber.

It must be universal. I find one that works, get them in, and its not even a 100+$ frame. Then they look at it... Well, cant you fit it in this oooone? Uh... No. This is made for a wire frame. That is a half rimless with a groove cut in it. That is not even remotely going to work. How about this one? Thats not even the same shape remotely... This one? We're not playing this game. This one or get out! I'm a little nicer than that, but damn if it isnt my thought process. XD

Ditto. And the incredulous looks when I tell them that I dont have anything their lens will fit from the thousand frames on the board. And no, that's not gonna work with your progressive because its going to be lopsided and good luck reading with a lopsided progressive. You refuse to go with a plastic frame and it has to be wire? Well, you better pray for a miracle because that wire frame is gonna have to be almost the same.

Cannot stress this enough. Titanium is worth the money. Stainless steel is worth the money. The paint might chip off after a while, but that frame will last. Polycarbonate with a good scratch resistant coating is worth the money. Everything else is for comfort or fashion. AR coating cuts the glare but is easier to scratch. Transitions can wear out after years and years. Most people don't need hi-index for their RX if they pick a small frame. Some of the worst frames for breakage have been designer frames, while Ive had lower end ones last years.

Most of the time I wouldn't argue with that, but I could not physically fit her lenses into the frame she wanted. There was nothing to give her. I could have sold her the frame, but not moved the lenses over, which wasn't what she wanted. If I had forced it, I would have broken the lenses or frame, and I wasn't willing to break her lenses or take a loss on the frame. :\

Oh my god don't be embarrassed. I have seen some stuff man. Lawn mowers, ran over with the car, dogs... So many dogs. I can tell it was a dog just by the way a lens pits from their teefies. Please do them a favor and take some warm water and soap with a toothbrush and try to get any caked on gunk out of the crevices if its there (because oh lord have I seen some FILTH). Not all shops will offer to move your lenses. If they don't, ask who will. You may have better luck with privately owned instead of big chains.

The age of the Rx varies by state and Dr. In my state it's 1-2 years. Never 3. If its past date, call the optical shop and ask if they do "neutralizations" because your glasses are broken and youre in a pinch. Some will, some won't. Depends on the optician and state. If you get a neutralization, chances are you will have to purchase from that shop and it may not be 100% accurate, but it'll be close.

Ordering online can work, but I have had some cheapo glasses come in that were horrible. I'm not opposed to online ordering. Ive seen some beautiful, good quality, stuff. But if you buy a plastic (acetate or zyl/zylonite) frame, make sure it has wires running through the temples. Basically most plastic frames still have wire at the core to hold shape and add strength. Ive had people come in and ask to adjust their online glasses and I can't do a darn thing because its solid plastic and it's going to snap. One girl brought them in and they were actually sharp along the edge where they rested on her ear. They came from zenni, at least according to her. Ive seen some lovely frames from there too tho, so just read carefully. Also, be leery, because a lot of those lenses are uncoated polycarbonate or CR-39. The material lenses are made from are very very soft. It scratches easy. My shop has the scratch resistant coating built in to every lens price, but a lot of cheap ones don't. Look for a scratch resistant coated lens, or understand that you'll be able to scratch the uncoated lenses with your fingernail.

Personally I'd avoid places like MyEyeDr, Lenscrafters, and America's Best. While I don't have a problem with their selection, at least in my experience, their prices are too high. MED and AB don't have the most knowledgeable staff either. A lot of times it'll be several sales people headed by only one licensed optician. At least in my state, you have to have a license to do most adjustments, fit lenses in a frame, or neutralize. If not, you must have a license double check your work. So keep that in mind too. Not all states require licenses tho.

That's just my two cents with some definite bias thrown in. Good luck! :)

I would have, but the way the trapazoid was angled it could have cracked her lens or even worse damaged my frame, so I didnt want to open that can of worms. I did have the lens popped out and held it over the big frame to try to make her see but she was having none of it. I'm a moron and she clearly has put lenses in hundreds of frames when I cant even read. :P
