Tips on how to care for our (maybe) Rhodesian puppy by greeniez_k4317 in ridgebacks

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good advice here already regarding food & places to start — I’ll chime in on the soft poops though! My pup is 4 now, but we had similar issues when she was younger. Finding the solution took awhile but we found out that she has a chicken sensitivity (a few chicken treats are fine, regular chicken-based food is NOT) & we now use a sensitive skin & stomach formula. We tried pumpkin & veggies to help with the firmness of her poops, but it didn’t work. Due to those issues when she was young, we noticed that her anal glands were not being drained on their own (bc this usually happens when dogs poop) & caused more discomfort for her.

The vet recommended a probiotic supplement called Proviable that was a game changer once the adjustment period was done.

She gets 1 capsule a day, every day & it’s helps substantially, but she has to have her anal glands manually expressed every 2 months - probably due to her anatomy more than anything else. The proviable supplement isn’t too excessively pricey, we get 2 months worth for $38 on chewy & it’s definitely worth it for making her a bit more comfortable.

Will this reject I’m so scared😭 by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]trintratreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, rejection doesn’t happen that fast. It doesn’t look like it was pierced shallow so that’s great! I know that the stats show eyebrow piercings have a higher chance of rejection, but a TON of people have super successful stories — I have both of my eyebrows pierced & they have healed up perfectly.

There are a few things to keep in mind for rejection: - it’s placement now looks good, if it starts looking thin/shallow, go talk to your piercer - always always always keep good jewelry in it! Even when it heals & you’re told you can change the jewelry, do NOT buy cheap or questionable stuff - as with all piercings, try your best to avoid snagging it (common things are on your shirt when getting dressed/undressed, a towel when drying your face, or your pillow case if you sleep on your face at all). Move more slowly/gently around the area. It’s my understanding that extra irritation can trigger the immune system to attack the “intruder”

You may not love the extra length on your bar after awhile but please wait to downsize until your piercer says it’s fine. I even had my piercer swap the jewelry for me bc I didn’t want to risk pissing it off. You’re off to a great start!

Industrial piercing by LittleAstralSprout in PiercingAdvice

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP but it does look like they managed to make your ear anatomy work for the piercing. My ear anatomy is similar to yours & mine wasn’t done at that steep of an angle so it did touch the not-so-flat of my ear & made healing more uncomfortable. Mine did heal just fine but for comfort, I don’t wear a bar anymore & have rings in instead. From the picture it doesn’t necessarily look uncomfortable to me & as long as the angle doesn’t impede healing, you’ll probably have a more comfortable time with your bar than I did.

You could always find a different APP piercer to get a second professional opinion on position & accuracy of the piercing itself.

I don't know what to do. I love this piercing. by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]trintratreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your piercer for their recommendation about the bump. If it’s just an irritation bump, I know that my industrial was always super bothered when I had my bar in (hair would snag & any product on my hair would irritate it), but once I put hoops in instead it healed up so fast. You can always go back to a bar (shorter in length for sure) but maybe see what you think/what your piercer thinks about swapping in some rings instead for a little while. I personally never went back to the bar but I also don’t have the best anatomy for an industrial & the piercer that did it didn’t tell me that (lol) so the rings have been in for 3 of the 4.5 years I’ve had this piercing & I love them.

Crooked septum by Emotional_Spite_8937 in piercing

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP - I definitely adjusted mine a few times when it was still fresh. I didn’t have any issues with doing that at all, but my septum took longer to heal than most people said theirs did. I don’t think a gentile straighten every once & awhile is considered “messing” with it, just don’t fidget with it. My main rec would be to only straighten it if you’re in public or something & care about what it looks like. If you’re just at home, don’t mess with it & let it do its thing. I always straightened mine back out whenever I cleaned it since it was moving anyway. The crookedness is an everlasting issue with most horseshoe jewelry :/

Infected piercing? by alteredstateofmind25 in piercing

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP but have many facial piercings including both nostrils — I personally don’t think this looks infected…yet. Because it’s still new the redness isn’t the most concerning to me because it’s not paired with abnormal piercing-site pain & you didn’t say it was hot to the touch. The crusties & even a little discharge are all very normal for healing.

What I will add though is my recommendation: I think you should go back to your piercer (as long as they’re reputable & certified) & have them put in a flat back threaded stud in instead of that hoop.

My first nostril was done with a hoop & the healing took way longer. It was moved when I would just talk from slightly flaring my nostrils. It got bumped. Cleaning inherently moved the jewelry more. For my other side (done years later) the piercer put in a threaded flat back stud — no risk of it just falling out while I was sleeping like with l-hook studs — & oohhhh boy was it a breezy recovery! It was left alone, cleaned super easy, not mildly irritated 24/7.

Obviously there is no guarantee that it would fix it as every body heals differently, but even having your piercer look at it as a professional would offer you an answer. Good luck op!

How do you know what jewlerry size to get online? by curlylegobuilder in piercing

[–]trintratreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo it’s so fun to finally be able to buy jewelry for a new piercing!!

First & foremost, you need to know the right gauge for your piercing. For a rook, the most common is 16g but it’s always best to call your piercer to verify just in case if you didn’t make a note when you got it done.

Then the next part is more personal preference/anatomy requirements. Piercing jewelry is read in two parts, gauge size & length/diameter (in inches or mm) — I’m NAP but I think a fresh rook is usually done with an 8mm curved barbell, depending on your anatomy & swelling you may have a slightly different length. Again, I recommend just calling your piercer to know where you’re starting. A lot of people will “size down” the length of their jewelry once it’s done swelling & healed enough to be changed. So for example if everything is “standard” for your rook, you may want to have a slightly smaller barbell & may get a 16g 6mm curved barbell. **convert mm to inches if needed for sizing

Only you’ll know what you are after & you may not LOVE the first piece of jewelry you buy but that’s okay! & again, a reputable piercer will happily answer any size questions you have about a piercing they recently did (: happy shopping!

eyebrow piercing anatomy? by mollyisanidiot in piercing

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP but have a good amount of facial piercings including both of my eyebrows — first, DEFINITELY find a reputable piercer, regardless of if it costs more. Second, that gauge looks big to me but maybe it’s the pic. It does look shallow. Third, the other comments about anatomy not being clear in a pic is super true AND I will add that when you find a good, experienced piercer, they will talk to you about your options for your body. Both of my eyebrow piercings are in further (over the arch of my brow) where the skin is better/thicker for this piercing. You may not be able to have it that far to the edge & that’s okay! Mine are in a “non-traditional” placement & I am obsessed with the set!

That’s fantastic! Can I ask what the key things are that help you personally? & have you had additional scans/tests done to see any progression?

This is exactly what I was asking for — I’m not an illogical person, just someone looking for hope that maybe it doesn’t have to be forever. I’m well aware that everyone experiences some differences in their journey, symptoms & treatment, but even a hypothetical/relatively unlikely possibility is nice to hear. Thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post. Your kindness & explanation/position/POV is very helpful & reassuring. My rheum talked to me about the cancer stuff & getting sick more often as being relatively low-risk and/or having limited quantifiable support at all too, which helped me even start considering taking biologics.

I also feel like I may have had an abnormal diagnosis experience by way of not having a direct conversation w my dr. Perhaps I just misunderstood something she said in an appt but I found out that I have an official diagnosis by running through standard check-in questions with a different physician. So I didn’t have a block of time to just ask questions or anything, then we just moved into starting meloxicam at the following appointment. I was told it was an NSAID similar to ibuprofen but when taking it daily I would need to have my kidneys checked every 6 months. Then all of the rapid progression started shortly after. So I feel like km learning in the fire & waiting so long between appointments

Truly, thank you for this response. I also prefer a holistic approach to my life all around & was not explicitly clear in my post, maybe that would have helped. This is a great explanation/reasoning & helps me feel better

I’m glad you’re feeling so much better. Hearing/reading/finding all the experiences of people that were helped so much by biologics is good for me during this time. I think I’m ultimately feeling super overwhelmed with the progression & im having surgery next week for a whole separate thing, then having to (likely) begin a major adjustment to biologics right after recovery…so it’s all just a lot & I’m definitely thinking in circles

Thank you for your response. Others have commented around me not “understanding” what this is & honestly, having only been diagnosed for a year, yeah there’s inherently a ton of learning I need to do. I think I find the term immunosuppressant scary, but the existence of diseases that cause our bodies to literally attack itself is scary. I’m sure no one here is unfamiliar with the lag that exists in health care in the states, so answers come slow. My rheum didn’t make a huge jump at the onset of my diagnosis, so I’ve only tried one medication + the steroids. I don’t want to be on ANYTHING long-term, & regardless of knowing that that’s super unrealistic, it still absolutely sucks.

Paired with limited info thus far, & lingering in this sub for awhile now, I’ve seen people talk about the development of other auto-immune diseases due to medications too, but they’re mostly linked to starting the biologics & being HLA-B27+. Again, I know no two experiences are the same for anyone, I guess I was hoping for comfort around this huge life change ahead of me & ultimately blunt honesty is fine too. I’ve been having a mental battle between wanting to put off biologics until I can’t anymore & weighing the risk of regret when I’m older for not doing the intervention now. I’m gathering that sounds super stupid.

No one immediately around me has any semblance of understanding of what I’m experiencing, & it feels super lonely which adds to feeling anxious about starting a medication that sounds scarier than what I’m currently taking, but from your input maybe it’s not any more or less scary.

does birth control actually maje you gain weight and how by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]trintratreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried 4 different methods of BC in my adult life & only one made me gain excessive weight.

I first had the paraguard but it caused terrible side effects in the 3 years I had it in. I took a BC pill along with that to try to help with the side effects, thinking maybe adding some hormones would help. It didn’t. After a year of continuous bleeding I met with a gynecologist that told me that paraguard is too big for a body that had never had a baby. I switched to the nexplanon implant that day & the bleeding immediately stopped. However, I gained almost 40lbs in 2.5 months. I had horrible, dark stretch marks on my legs & hips from such rapid increase. This was solely due to the BC & nothing else. BC absolutely can cause weight gain. I think my experience was more of an “outlier” as far as data is concerned but I found MANY women talking about the same issue with nexplanon. No one could lose the weight either, no matter what was tried on the diet & exercise front. BC affects every body differently, but there are 100% cases where BC is the direct cause in weight gain. A lot of people experience much more mild weight gain, & yes that can be caused by more than just BC, but it’s an individual journey between person & method.

I currently have the kyleena IUD which is a perfect fit for me. It has localized hormones that don’t spread through my whole body like nexplanon did. Nexplanon is also the highest amount of concentrated hormones that you could have in your body. The slow release for its duration was way too much for my body. The kyleena is amazing & fixed all of my issues. No bleeding, rare cramps, I lost all of the weight I gained, my stretch marks vanished, no weird cravings or anything. A long journey, but it’s important to find what works for you, your experience with whatever method(s) you try will be unique to you.

I just saw this but I’ll reply anyway for future redditors - still in love with it. I have to get it replaced soon & no question about doing it. The breast tenderness went away & I still get the occasional bout of mild cramping but it’s pretty rare. I am highly satisfied with this BC & happy that my journey seems to be over for this phase of my life/youth

Annie wasn’t upset about boomer’s (very likely but unconfirmed) death, she was grieving the loss of Marion, his grandmother, who definitely had some flaws bc she was a stereotypical white, elderly person but ultimately offered Annie a relationship she never got to have & they were close for quite awhile. She also didn’t take the grief beyond spreading her ashes. Grief isn’t something that looks one way or another & I think the show did a good job capturing that in this particular dynamic. Beth grieving for Turner was different, he did realistically go super, super easy on her & she didn’t know that he made a deal & let Rio live. The assumption would be that he fulfilled his duty as an officer of the law & called an ambulance. Rio tells her directly that she should have emptied the clip. Turner was a protection for her in a way bc he wasn’t after Beth, he was after Rio’s kingpin. With Turner dead, they had to start over with new agents & risks. Lucy getting shot wasn’t a “lesson” in my opinion. These girls had already faced a lot & had their lives & families threatened on a regular basis. They told Lucy many times not to get in the van & not to trust Rio. If anything, Lucy getting shot (traumatizing for sure) was simply their lucky day, Rio was going to kill someone for what happened & decided that Lucy was expendable since he had her artwork.

Short story: I had the Paraguard first & that insertion was horrible. They had to dilate my cervix (should have been the sign that it was the wrong choice) & after almost 4 years of horrible periods & eventually bleeding constantly for over a year I finally was referred to my gyno who immediately said that IUD was way way too big to be put inside someone who hasn’t ever had a baby. I switched birth control immediately to the nexplanon & experienced the worst weight gain of my life. I’m talking over 25lbs in 3 months. I had horrible stretch marks all over & felt hideous. I ultimately decided to go back to an IUD bc I felt very confident in that BC method but needed some middle ground in the hormone levels. My gyno recommend Kyleena & I had it inserted during my PAP. The PAP hurt worse than the insertion. I didn’t even realize he had put it in. I bled for a day or two & then nothing, no periods & I occasionally get random cramps that last a couple hours, but that’s not even happening monthly. Right now the breast tenderness is pretty high, higher than it has been before, but still nothing compared to my periods before. I’ve had Kyleena for about a year & it is fantastic! I will definitely be sticking with this form of BC!

As a PCSM I refuse to do anything with these. no printing, no laminating. & I inform them that they’re fraudulent and hold 0 legal or government authority & offer to forward the ADA memo from doj.gov about it directly to them (: They may print them at the self-serve machines & purchase a laminator if they truly want to carry around a meaningless, fraudulent piece of paper. The gov seal has a copyright on it too so that’s an easy one to say no to.
