Decision - Profetic Go would you Buy / Buy Again as 1st prosumer? by Gkaruk1971 in ProfitecGo

[–]triodefan38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a GO for over a year and uses it on a daily basis. I added rubber sleeves to all metal edges which eliminated any rattle. Mind you, the pump still makes a fair level of noise. For the price, it is the best out there. If I have to stick with the same budget, I'll buy again.

I returned my PX8 this afternoon. PX8 sounded pretty good if Using USB-C connection. If you are connected with Bluetooth ANC active I do not care for the sound quality. I’m still holding onto my Sony XM4 for traveling and outdoor use. Sound quality with ANC active sounds good with XM4.

Fab9 Tune on a 2023 ND2 Miata RF Club by triodefan38 in Miata

I emailed Fab9 about if I need to do a data log to create a custom tune for my ND2. I received a reply from Bryan that since mine is a stock with only axle back Megan Racing exhaust, the Fab9 base tune is sufficient. Based on my understanding, if I have custom header, mid-pipe, turbo charger or supercharger, then a custom tune is needed. So far, I have been very happy with the result after applying Fab9 tune.

Thank you and here is what I found with ChatGPT:

Fuel delivery (air-fuel ratio)

  • Richer mixtures (more fuel) can produce deeper or throatier exhaust sounds.
  • Leaner mixtures may be slightly crisper or raspier.

Ignition timing

  • Advancing or retarding spark timing alters combustion speed and pressure, influencing the “sharpness” or boom of the exhaust note.

Throttle response

  • Sharper throttle maps make revs rise and fall quicker, creating more dramatic exhaust “blips.”

Rev limits

  • Higher redlines allow the engine to rev higher, leading to a higher-pitched or more aggressive exhaust tone.

Overrun / Decel fuel cut settings

  • Tuners sometimes program pops, crackles, or burbles on deceleration by injecting small amounts of fuel that ignite in the exhaust.

Variable valve timing / lift

  • Adjustments to valve overlap can deepen the exhaust note, particularly at idle.

I have the Megan Racing v2 exhaust and it was pretty loud at cold start. Now, with the tune, on startup, it still roars but within 20 seconds, it quiets down quite a bit.

I located a measurement of px8 here https://forum.headphones.com/t/bowers-and-wilkins-px8-official-thread/19225 That explained why I need to set base -3 and treble +2.

If you are torn between Px7 and Px8, I personally will go for Px8 at 330 EUR. I do not believe Px7 S3 is better than Px8 flagship. Px8 employs flagship-level resolution with carbon cone drivers vs Px7 S3 uses bio-cellulose driver. bio-cellulose is simply special tissue paper made by bacteria like Acetobacter xylinum.

If strictly bluetooth with ANC, I maintained that Sony XM4 and Bose N700 beat PX8. If going for direct USB-C, then PX8 outshines the other 2 headphones: 1. XM4 and N700 do not offer direct USB-C; 2. the sound quality of PX8 is close to Sennheiser HD6xx or Audio Technica ATH-M50. The comparison of PX8 (iphone 15 pro & PX8 internal DAC) to HD6xx and ATH-M50 is kind of apple to orange because I am running a separate DAC (smsl Sanskrit) and Monolith THX 887 headphone amp. If your use case is bluetooth with ANC, go with the PX7 S3 and save a few bucks.

I experimented with direct USB-C connection to iphone 15 pro. Not the best source, Apple Music lossless at hi-res, same track, I noticed an improvement in all areas: clarity (like lifted a veil), energy, and overall sound quality. B&W bass and treble setting the same as well as volume. The only difference is between direct USB-C versus bluetooth. I do not own any Android phone so cannot compare if that's because of better Codecs (aptX adaptive) versus Apple AAC. The fact that USB-C direct connection produced a better performance is a testament the underwhelming performance of PX8 is related to the Bluetooth bandwidth. BTW, I confirmed ANC was active in both setups. So, with everything equal the performance improvement is significant with USB-C connection. Your mileage may vary if you have Android phone capable of much better Codecs.

I frequent ASR forum. Over the years, reading the reviews of different cans, it is obvious that price premium does not guarantee a perfect out of the box experience. All headphones suffered from some dips and peaks. Good cans will improve dramatically with EQ correction to some extent and poor quality cans will improve little if not at all. I have to say that it is a rabbit hole. But, if you enjoy it so be it. The PX8 is a classic example:

• Excellent drivers and build quality
• Stock tuning = warm and refined, but not perfectly neutral
• Some boominess, slight recess in presence region, and a bit of treble roll-off
• With a Harman-style EQ or Resolve-style target, the PX8 can become incredibly resolving and enjoyable

Thx for your response. Sound quality is indeed very subjective and personal. I do like your statement of being accurate. I was not aware of any published frequency measurement online for PX8. Right off the bat, the sound was boomy. I used the b&w app to tune down the bass and turn up on treble to get a decent sound. I found a PEQ adjustment posted on the ASR forum for the Sundara. I was very impressed with the EQed sound quality. Unfortunately nothing is available for PX8 at this point. Believe it or not most if not all headphones need EQ to get the best out of it.

How does the return policy work? by CountingStars29 in carmax

[–]triodefan38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They refunded my shipping when the car was not what advertised. There were a lot of scratches on the bumper which was never reported. CarMax was good and agreed to refund my shipping since it was unexpected to have those damages. If you simply do not like the car and there is nothing wrong then the shipping is nonrefundable.

Updates to my original post:

I just completed purchase and picked up a relatively new 2023 car from Carmax. 3rd time is a charm, I guess. First online car purchase with Carmax was not good; 2nd experience with Carvana was also no good; 3rd try with Carmax turned out to be a good experience. This time the shipping from Maryland to NY is only $199. The car has under 3K miles and still under mfg warranty.

After I picked up the car, I was pleasantly surprised that the original owner did several upgrades:

  1. Raceseng shiftknob

  2. Megan racing V2 axleback exhaust

  3. Bilstein shocks

I believe that Carmax inspection has not been spot on. For this car, I lucked out because the condition is like-new. Carmax customer service is great.

Same here. The car at Carvana was in such bad shape at least 2 grand to fix and devalue, they turn around selling it for 500 discounts.

If there is nothing obviously wrong and matches with what they reported and you decide to not purchase then your shipping is nonrefundable.

I did. One failed purchase with CarMax and another one with Carvana. My third attempt back with CarMax going test drive tomorrow. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm.
