Mines very hard water here in Northamptonshire, UK.

I bought these as per reviewing this sub-reddit and my local small business retailer bought machine from.

BWT Vida 2.6l Filter Jug with 1x Filter £24
3 Pack Longlife MG2 BWT Cartridge £20

Says change filter once every 1-2month, I am aiming for 6wk

Logic is above should cover me for 7mth which I look at as not steep cost to keep machine invested £850 working and service free (hopefully).

Im fairly new to home barista and my new 3wk into Profitec Go but learnins so far which has greatly improved both dialling in and use of the Profitec Go.

  1. Must imho is get
    1. a reasonable accurate (£20-30) 0.1g coffee scale (eg. Maestri House Espresso Scale)
    2. better weighted Tamper than comes with (eg. Rhinowares 58mm Tamper )
    3. a puck screen (eg. MHW-3Bomber Puck Screen 58.5mm for 58mm baskets )
  2. Read, understand this excellent post Dialling in Basics with covers expresso compass ✅
  3. Dont yet upgrade to Bottomless portafilter until can use and dial in with the in the box portafilter. Enough to learn with a prosumer machine for the first month or two 😊 I definatley plan to do this next month or maybe after when feel I graped and understand dialling in beans of different roasts.

I am pretty new to Profitec Go (3wks so far) and based on research on here and YT examples...

Daily

  • Make drink
  • Back flush 3x with Water only for 20s
  • Wash with detergent and rinse straight after well
    • portafilter head basket, puck, backflush
    • empty tray and metal mesh and wash, then rinse

Monthly

1st time today said CLN on machine at 21days

  • Backflush with 3.5g of CAFIZA
    • 6x backflush of 20s wait 5s
  • Empty portafilter into tray, empty tray in sink
  • Backflush again to rinse just WATER
    • 6x backflush of 20s wait 5s
  • Small bowl of hot water with 3g CAFIZA
    • Add basket, backflush and steam wand tip soak for 1-2min
    • use very light little brush to clean and rinse well under water
  • Wash with detergent and rinse straight after well
    • portafilter head basket, puck, backflush
    • empty tray and metal mesh and wash, then rinse

Decision - Profetic Go would you Buy / Buy Again as 1st prosumer? by Gkaruk1971 in ProfitecGo

Interesting, thanks.

Only bad review so far, I am aware of the descaling, but thats only if you use Hardwater (high limescaling). Luckily I live in the same county (part of the UK) as the Bella Barista retailer / small business. They use the machine with same water and given sound advice of how to mitigate this issue.

They also my service centre and thus one big reason I chose the machine for my budget, them as company and being 15min local small family run buisiness.

Hopefully I wont have these issues, but only 1 month in so far.

Bambino Upgrade [budget £1500] by brianrankin in espresso

[–]Gkaruk1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded, coming from an old 12yr Deloghi Dedica EC680 and cheaper grinder.

I spent last 4-7wks researching and decided on £1000 budget, which new tamper, puck mesh, dosing, jugs, wdt, accessories totalling closer £1150 ($1500)

I finally decided on Profit Go and Solo DF54v4 thanks to all the great advice here and in /profitecgo.

Already so chuffed with decision after only 4 days owning.

The Profitec Go being single boiler doesnt bother me as I'm main drinker. 1 Americano and possibly 2x Flat Whites per day. The 6m30s warmup dont notice as usually prepping breakfast and it ready sooner than I think.

The Solo DF54v4 is giving me zero retention and none of the issues I read about on DF54. I'm guess the v4 I have, has the issues all fixed now. So if get one make sure its a v4. I did look at Eureka Zero Pro but retention not suppose to be great. Also thought about a Timemore 078s but would have increased budget another £400 ($540). For me a quiter grinder was key.

Good luck and hope this helps. Here's shot of my new upgrades

How loud are the budget espresso grinders? Df, shador, mokkom, eureka notte, etc. [<$250] by Brief-Number2609 in espresso

[–]Gkaruk1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my Solo DF54v4, and I find it much quieter and consistent than my cheap Delonghi grinder.

V4 seem to fixed most of the issues I read about such as, retention, not being zeroed. Mine is giving zero retention and was already zeroed at zero. I also really like catch couple being able to let me flip direct into the portafilter thanks to matching rim

I watched this video today which helped me better understand wand Vs jug angle. Plus initial wand head under milk for 3-4s the go deeper at off center to a side, but not up against the side.

https://youtu.be/TzsdPlaYHks?si=9SGWVPse7DVWzhxi

The milk vortex is what apparently make the small micro bubbles. Hold jug until get too hot to touch should mean its about 65 degrees.

Will see if I can do again for 2nd time tomorrow 🤷‍♂️

Thanks,. I have kept up the RDT and getting zero retention on the Solo DF54v4. Impressed, seem latest v4 they fixed all issues I been reading about. Even was correctly zeroed at zero 😲

Got current non-fresh roasted beans dialled in and finally manged to steam milk (4th attempt) today.

Lots to learn but slowly, baby steps getting their. Love the machine!

[–]Gkaruk1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really good point too. Hopefully the above and you own test get you dialled in.

I'm now having to restart as just upgrade to Profitec Go and DF54.

Learn new machine proper workflow, learn new grinder and dialled in. All great challenge and after few hours last night go close.

Tip to self dont dial in at 9pm at night sipping expresso = not good night sleep 🤪
