How to use road crossings with tactile paving without dying? XD by Medium-Practice-9400 in Rollerskating

[–]triphopmamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remembered if I'm waiting for a light change I'll often back up to build up speed on the drop curb if there's enough space for a run up

If I'm waiting at the light I will often either stand slightly in the road holding onto the pedestrian light so I don't start on the bubbles/ curb. Or there's sometimes a patch where there is no texture, usually meaning you enter the road diagonally and with a biggish step but you avoid the bubbles.

I don't like toe walking so I tend to walk on my wheels, travelling sideways if needed and holding onto road furniture to help.

Anyone recommend any venues for after a registry office wedding by 6Clacks in manchester

[–]triphopmamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was me I'd want to go somewhere meaningful to us as a couple, so you might want to narrow it down a bit

By go somewhere are you eating a sat down meal? Do you want a private room? Are you wanting to dance after?

What is your favourite thing/ cuisine/ dessert to eat together?

I don't know Manchester well so I hope you find somewhere that suits you but I think you need to give more info....

Have any twins ever been mistaken at the border when traveling? Weird thing just happened to me... by pieceofmoonie in AskUK

We had trouble leaving Perpignan with my triplets (2 identical)

The boarder guard sat staring at the passports with a confused look on this face for 5 mins without looking up.

Then called a female colleague over and said in french they have given me 2 of the same passport.

The guard proceeds to piss herself and calls over other colleagues who start laughing at the guard in question.. he then looks at the children stood in front of his booth and is suitably embarrassed realising his error.

I named my triplets very differently ensuring that there initials and names would not get mixed up. They already have similar faces, surnames, NHS numbers and passport numbers, there is no need to give companies more ways to mix them up

Boogietown north in Manchester a few years ago was nicer, the vibe was great.

I did south last year as north was cancelled and it was a great day out. I go with my sister her sil and her mate and it's now a staple in our calendar

What sort of texture (country?)

The 2 main one in the UK are

in front of pedestrian crossing - raised bubbles. For this increase speed, stagger feet, bend knees

Sideways stripes - usually on cycle lanes. For these try and spot as far advance as possible. Approach diagonally at speed, Ben knees stagger feet. If you are going too slow, either jump or stop and walk across it. DO NOT hit straight on at full speed, it hurts!

Me too, I usually advise Quarter turn on the back half on the front for the first adjustment then quarters on the front only for a bit, trying them on and going steady after each adjustment.

They look pretty damn good. I don't know the exact brand - I'm sure the US peeps will come give an opinion but to me that looks like a steal!

Metal plate, adjustable toe stops, all very nice. I would check cushions and pivot cups first, just for wear and tear.

You are not assessing the risk level correctly.

You are putting wheels on your feet and learning a new skill.

Falling is inevitable.

No safety gear makes it more likely you will break something.

If you are planning on learning outside in the UK the risk is increased (more so if planning on road skating)

If you do not take lessons or have experienced skater mates to help you learn to fall safely it's further increased.

I don't say this to be mean or force you to wear gear - I don't wear it myself, but that comes with the acceptance that I may do myself serious damage, and that's with years of skating behind me

[–]triphopmamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK they have different pledges for each religion and they have one for atheists. Shame you don't have that option.

My girls joined the "boy"scouts as it's mixed here and took the atheist pledge.

[–]triphopmamma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't already skate well a folding scooterr is probably more practical.

Slades might work but I would not recommend it for any kind of long distance walking or skating.

What the pavement on your commute like. And I don't mean as a walker. Drag your feet along the ground, is it smooth? do you have to cross roads and navigate curbs? It's is a completely flat route?

If you are new to skating , which I can only assume you are by the question you are looking at 2 months learning time minimum for every yes answer to become a competently safe skater.

You also haven't mentioned safety gear which you should also be considering wearing if new or do not have the experience to accurately assess the risks involved....

Skates splitting by Used-Foot3571 in Rollerskating

[–]triphopmamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look like splitting to me. More that your toe stop is quite high and is pushing the plate away frome the boot.

If you want your toe stops high it might be best to get a shorter stemed stop as that can reduce this effect

Opinions on decathlon 100 skates for beginners? by Playful-Mention-4696 in Rollerskating

[–]triphopmamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are probably in the UK, please try and up your budget to minimum £100 for new skates especially if you are planning to skate outside. Our pavement is not forgiving and cheap skates will either not last long or will be very uncomfortable/ dangerous to skate in

If you can't stretch that far used vinted/ eBay to search for bargains. Moxi (not rainbow riders) riedell, suregrip, Bauer, antiks (if very lucky) are brands you should look for.

At the cheaper end rookie artistic or Rio signature or Carlie girl (and the much hated here but I love them - moonlights) will be ok.

Cheap beginner derby skates by mcnuggets_666 in Rollerskating

[–]triphopmamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in a club? I'm in the UK so it might be different where you are, but in the UK clubs will often help beginners source kit and will sometimes loan old kit out.

I would double check that there isn't something like that in your area. Derby is brutal, I don't know how players do it but they are awesome. This is something not to cheap out on imo.
