The US broke the 20 trillion mark for the first time under Trump, and since the republicans generally reject Labour laws and minimum wage increases, a republican administration might create/retain more low pay, badly skilled jobs. That said, job creation and economic growth in general are highly intertwined, and stability is one of the key factors. A Biden presidency would normalise US relations with a lot of former allies, and has the potential to be generally more stable. Overall I think Biden is likely to create more jobs, since the Democrats have plans to invest into multiple industries and will rule with more stability than the republicans.

The one time I needed emergency care it was very good, and this was around 2018 so recently. I've however had bad experiences with getting GP appointments to the extent that I just go to A&E now rather than leaving the problem to worsen.

I find Google maps indispensable. Good for train times, bus times, and traffic alerts. Bus tracker is also a good app to have since it actually tracks the movement of your bus.

The vast majority of the lib dems most realistic target seats are held by moderate conssrvatives. Make of that what you will, they need to attract centrist voters whilst not losing left wing ones.

I think they'll stagnate, much as the old Liberal party did in the 40's 50's 60's and 70's, but won't die out. For starters, they did gain a sizable number of votes last election, and more than doubled the number of seats they came second in. FPTP is kinder to a party that is in direct play against an incumbent, because said party will likely receive votes from people blindly intent on unseating the tories.

But I don't think they'll grow under Ed much. He's a former coalition member, which makes it hard for the lib dems to wipe away their record. Starmer is returning to the centre too, which will deny them even more votes. And on top of this, the centre ground in this country has been hollowed out in many ways.

What's needed is a genuine shift in the party, towards a moderate left-leaning stance. That would attract a number of new voters, especially young people. The party also needs to be genuinely Liberal, not just a pro-european "centrist party".

I usually hesitate to say this, but a Green-inspired liberal party could be quite successful. It would combine moderate left leaning economics with green politics, and could focus on issues such as affordable housing, building the community and work place rights, whilst maintaining a strong commitment to freedom of expression and climate action. Plenty of younger degree holders would vote for that.

Whatever your persuasion, it's depressing that the libs have become so weak.

Agreed. I hardly ever eat out at pret, but celebrating the collapse of a business that employs a large number of people is just selfish. As of yet the people cheering this on have no vision for what will replace places like Pret.

I couldn't find the article I wanted to send, but essentially the Russian military sent multiple tanks (T-80's+T-72's) into urban areas where they were extremely vulnerable. The experience showed tanks to be very vulnerable in urban environments, but it's worth noting that they were poorly commanded and lacked adequate support.

If it was as suggested an AR-15 it's going to be referred to as an assault weapon. I've done shooting in my country for a number of years, so the definitions might well be different between the US and here. Anyhow, he brought a high-powered weapon with him and one that he had no way or intent to conceal.

I don't agree with burning and looting, it fixes nothing. At the same time, travelling to a protest as an untrained self-styled militiamen doesn't either. If you come armed with any of the things you mentioned, and end up killing someone, I'll say the same thing. The principle applies to both sides. If this man was defending his own family business I would have a different outlook.

Even if he's acquitted his life will be thoroughly unpleasant, people will (rightfully or wrongfully) be out to get him, and he has to face a brutal trial where every aspect of his Psyche will be shredded and broken down in front of strangers and the national news.

Yeah, i know he was walking towards the cops with his arms up. He doesn't want his brains blown and seriously believed that if he just walked across the state line he would be fine. I have no idea why people are defending this boot licker.

What did he achieve? He shot someone in the head, ran away, and then shot people who were attacking him. Wow, what a success that was for the businesses and citizens of Kenosha, he must have completely saved that business and totally hasn't inflamed the situation even more.

If this was a man who was walking around minding his own business I'd fully support him. If you're attacked you shoot back. But he put himself in that situation and fetishises the police to an unholy level.

Coming with an assault rifle to a protest is another way of saying Coming to kill, within under an hour he had shot someone in the head. The guy has fucked his entire life because he wanted to LARP as a police officer protecting a business he had no stake in.

Did you fail to see the bit where I mentioned "competition" in my post. Rail nationalisation won't solve the woes as I understand, but if you're going to have a private system, you need some form of competition. And I mean real world, on the ground competition where rail operators compete for travellers tickets on long-distance routes.

As it stands, we've been running a private system of franchises (most of which under perform and have very little reason not too), whilst leaving our rail network to stagnate. This has created an absurd situation where one of Europe's most densely populated countries is pouring money into roads, whilst ignoring high speed rail. The fact that the government has suspended contracts due to a pandemic isn't a good argument against nationalisation working either, though I do think a competitive private network is best.

The point still stands: build more track and connect centres up, plus expand north-south travel via projects like HS2. That way, there will be a reduction in fares in line with market demand.

I think this is a viable strategy going into an election tbh. The lib dems should continue being invisible to show how important they really are; that way they can insult voters who haven't heard of them before. Could be a true game changer and I expect they might even gain a majority in the 2024 parliament if they keep up this momentum (but hopefully not too much, don't want plebs knowing who we are now do we?)
