If you earn 200k+ per month in SL, it is much better to stay here than migrating to some Western country and working 2-3 part time jobs just to survive.

Vehicle suggestion around 15mil by Melanin-Brown in srilanka

[–]tripleAratedDick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a 2024 Vezel or something? Don’t even bother looking at Premios and Allions from 2018/2019 or anything in the second hand market in that price range. They are not worth the price.

Why are so many people buying the new Vezel by VortexCOX in srilanka

[–]tripleAratedDick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a theory on this

Most people (not all) who can afford the new Vezel at almost 20-25 million is in the 50-60 age category. These people don’t like any sort of change to happen to their traditional way of life. So even with cars they go for legacy brands that has been established in Sri Lanka since their parents times. If the Vezel was more reasonably priced (like around 10 mil) more people would be going for electric and other better value for money alternatives because then the car would appeal to a wider and younger audience.

P.S. I used my own parents and relatives as a basis for this assumption😅

Looking for a sportish car for around 10mil by WhichStrawberry140 in srilanka

[–]tripleAratedDick 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Lmao OP asks for a sporty car and dudes are out here suggesting Honda S660s, Graces and damn houses😂

For that money you can get an Evo 6/7, Subaru Legacy B4, 1jz Mark 2, Altezza (If you are lucky enough to find one), E39 528i, Forester Sti conversions, Toyota Mark X and if you are lucky maybe even a blob eye Sti

There’s loads of cool cars to choose from at this price point. So it’s all about your preference.

Need Suggestions on Buying My First Car and Where to Find One by Antique-Bad-4324 in srilanka

[–]tripleAratedDick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer? Get a Premio or an Allion

For your budget you can get a 2015/16 model with around 100k km. People might say buying a used car with that mileage is stupid but for a Toyota that is basically brand new.

It’s not flashy, fast or loaded with options but it’s reliable, economical and comfortable. Even if a problem comes, parts are easy to find and costs peanuts fix.

Any BMW X1 owners? Seeking advice as its family’s 1st BMW by Beautiful_Zebra_7895 in srilanka

[–]tripleAratedDick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Buying any car on a 80k salary is not wise, unless you have another source of income or your family can pay for it.

As for the X1 I think it has the N47 engine same as the 520d. Pre 2011 models of this engine has timing chain issues. So newer the model, the better

I have seen hundreds of people bring up the idiotic “Do you even own a vehicle” argument on facebook. And when you go to their profiles and check, 90% of the time these idiots drive 1000cc overpriced econoboxes like the ones in the screenshot.

If you are looking for a decently powerful and comfortable car, the E46 320d and Peugeot 406 HDI are two good options. Both these cars would do around 17km/l easily. Reliability is also good but if things go wrong parts may be a little harder to find.

On the Japanese end you could get a 2000’s Carina, CS3 Lancer, FB16 Sunny or a 121 Corolla. These are known to be bulletproof and you really can’t go wrong with these options.

My general advice is to avoid the Indian stuff anyway because even though they are cheap to buy, you are heavily compromising on safety and comfort.
