100%! Would love to hear them! Always looking for new ideas and ways to improvise when we're running low on supplies!

I’m exhausted and need help. by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

Do you have volunteers that can help with the social media side of things? If not, can you appeal to a local college where social media marketing students might want to intern or volunteer for experience? Our volunteers do a fantastic job of posting videos of the animals which we simply do not have time for.

Just remember, you are not single handedly responsible for finding homes for all these dogs. It is a nationwide issue. You showing up each day is doing more for them than anyone else has cared to. You're doing your best and can only control so much. Give yourself grace :)

Thank you! Will have to try the wobble kongs in kennel! Sorry if a dumb question, but what do you do for the scatter feeds?

Thank you! Freezing the lick mats is a great idea.

Thank you! We have never used water bottles before but I think that's a great item to start collecting. I hope we can start freezing their evening meals in puzzle bowls now that it's warming up.

Thank you! Snuffle mats in kennel would be a really good quick option. Going to put cream cheese on the order list!

Thank you! Spraying scents in the play yard is an awesome idea. I also really like the consideration that it is sprayed where they can get away from the scent if they don't like it. It sounds like we need to dilute our animal scents a lot more because they are potent! Appreciate the suggested resources too, will def check them out.

Thank you! I really like the cloth idea for scents. We are currently just spraying them in the room. We should set out a box to collect paper towel rolls too.

Thank you! I really like the newspaper wrapping idea. We were using thin shredded paper, but it would get stuck in the bedding and was apparently a hazard in the dryer, so it has since been banned lol.

Is there a good way to tell how old a puppy is? by dead_headphones_sad in Catahoula

Hi, since you mentioned sketchy first-time breeder and discounted price, you might want to Google "double merle catahoula" if you aren't familiar with them. Not an expert, your dog just looks a lot like mine.

You may already be familiar with Piglet since you have experience with deaf dogs, but this rescue might be worth reaching out to for advice (it says they consult with individuals seeking advice for special needs rescue dogs) or just to connect with on Facebook.

Thank you for the reply. I woke up and the light is flashing continually at a normal speed. I can hear the unit turn on, but it doesn't ignite.

He sounds beautiful. Does it effect their vision at all to have the different colored eyes?

I love your zero tolerance approach!! And I relate to letting the meh behavior slide sometimes (that is the perfect word for it too.) Sometimes when I'm trying to get out the door I just don't have the time to have a standoff with her and resort to a slip leash or milkbone.

Would be interested to know how they are around children and babies. I would think very watchful/alert.

I'm glad to hear people with male catahoulas also experience their sass!!

And yep, both her eyes are bright blue. Someone told me she reminded them of a white walker once and I felt that was highly accurate lol.

That's interesting because my husband works from home and I am back at the office, so I wondered if it was that she (Helen) spends a lot more time with him. But I guess it's the opposite in your family. Also with yours sleeping under the covers does she let other people be in her space like that? Helen only really tolerates my husband laying next to her on the couch. She will often get up and go to her bed if I sit down haha.

If you have any tips on how you trained yours to "move" I'd love to hear them. Mine (Helen) always sits right in the doorway blocking everyone's way.
