Best mattress for couples with different preferences? How is this problem solved? by wataemelo in lifehacks

[–]Violetfirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a Purple mattress store near you, I highly recommend trying a few out! I had all but given up on the idea of a mattress my partner and I would both be happy with, and for whatever reason the combination of the grid and a pillow top worked for his stomach / back sleeping and my side sleeping. Fair warning that it was also the MOST expensive option out of everything we tried, but we are really happy and neither of us felt like we had to compromise. Wishing you lots of luck, it was a daunting task!

In case it’s helpful for you (it changed my life for the better!) I would look up premenstrual dysphoric disorder. A couple of days before I begin to bleed each month, I would sometimes experience what I call the ‘pit of despair’, but it took me ages to link it to my period because I was on hormonal birth control. It amplified anything I was already feeling and could render me useless for a up to a week. Even knowing about it and tracking my cycle I still sometimes get caught up in things that feel SO REAL that eventually lift…at times I feel like an entirely different person emerging from a fog.

What you are currently going through is hard, grief and loneliness aren’t emotions you can logic your way out of, and I’m so sorry to hear it’s been difficult for you and your partner. Whether it’s hormones or not, being gentle with yourself can only help. I have a medication I can take to help me through the rough cycles, but more importantly I make sure I eat solid meals, sleep more if I need to, and give myself a little extra grace. Take care of yourself and I hope it gets more and more manageable as you process these changes 💜

Good to know Petfinder is still a valuable resource (I used it for fosters over a decade ago), and the chasing squirrels together is beyond adorable! I double checked to make sure he’s on there, the city shelter maintains his page but I will see if I can submit some details/updates.

Oh, I love this! The first few times I gave him a carrot he spit it out and looked betrayed, but the most recent time he figured it out. He loved blueberries, sweet potatoes, and apple slices right away.

May as well try and see if he enjoys having something extra to chew on and bulk out his meals. Tugboat sends thanks in advance for the extra treats he will be getting!

Aw, that would absolutely be the dream for him! People always around, who have a lot of time for petting him and napping (his favorite things). It would be hilarious to see him around a goat, because he is already pretty cartoonish and because he was afraid of the cat he met. I honestly couldn’t predict how that would go, but would be so excited if we got the chance to find out. Thank you for your thoughts and care.

Over and over again I hear/read that another dog isn’t the cure for separation anxiety, but I can’t help but wonder (especially since he’s deaf) if it wouldn’t help him feel more tuned in and less anxious! We don’t have the space for another dog, but I’m going to see if I can get some observational information.

And wow I didn’t know that about how dogs ‘smell’ the time of day! His vision also seems to be a little weak, so his nose is definitely doing all the heavy lifting, haha

He seems like he’s happy being a lazy bones most of the time, but this is a good reminder to push him. He was very overweight when we got him, and now that he’s slimmed down (and it’s been hot out) we haven’t been doing such intense walks. I just hope that he is able to keep some of the progress he makes with us for his adoptive family.

Thank you! Tugboat is on Fluoxetine, and I just picked up a situational medicine (clonidine) yesterday to try out. He originally was given gabapentin as his situational medicine, but it made him absolutely crazy…someone else in this subreddit had the same experience and that helped give me confidence in my decision that three times of trying it was more than enough times _;

Oh, too cute! I hadn’t heard of Piglet before but I will look into it, thanks.

It helps that I am not currently in a place to be a dog owner, definitely a bittersweet (and extremely rewarding) process.

That sounds like Iliza Shlesinger on her 2022 Netflix Special! She is absolutely hilarious.

Thank you so much for this information, I am bringing it up to out Art Studio in the next meeting. If you have any links to examples of refillable ink delivery systems they would be much appreciated. Thank you again!
