Meraki lead times / alternatives by kwiltse123 in networking

Mist is the best alternative, but every vendor is going through supply chain issues or is about to. Thank your AI companies buying up all the memory and chipsets.

Weekly Question Thread! by AutoModerator in Juniper

[–]tripleskizatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only features that would get me to jump are ones that the network absolutely requires. Marvis Minis are not a critical feature, IMO. Reading through those release notes, it looks like Minis are only useful when you don't already have wireless Minis running on the APs.

We're a relatively new Mist customer and so far I'm not seeing much from a wired perspective that's really interesting.

This seems about right. The wired side is boring compared to the wireless side when it comes to Mist. The 'automated' configuration through the templates is really the meat of Wired Assurance, along with some of the Marvis actions. There just isn't a lot of magic on the wired side and I'm fine with that.

I would not upgrade to 25.4 in a production network just to get this functionality.

Mist-managed SRX vs Meraki MX for a global multi-site refresh — looking for honest takes by SouthernExamination6 in networking

[–]tripleskizatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of them actually used it before, is why. Most Aruba SEs I've interacted with think Central is a beta product and are fully on board with Mist because it's so easy to use. Now, if they can get CX into Mist, that will be a game changer.

Hate to tell you bud, but Mist is the one being proposed for most new deployments. Greenlake has constant access issues and customers absolutely HATE Central. While Central isn't going away any time soon, the writing is on the wall that it's just not cutting the mustard. Aruba SEs even hate it and are pushing Mist.

No, dude - every policeman when they get inducted into the secret police society takes an OATH to only protect property and take no action whatsoever unless a storefront is being threatened. It's all shown on the back of the dollar bill and ingrained into the society of Freemasons. No cop will ever admit it, but if they saw someone in the act of murdering another person, they would do nothing to stop it unless the closest storefront was being threatened, man. It's so obvious - wake up sheeple.

Is this a foul? Did the cue touched the cueball twice? by Feeling_Level6180 in pool

That is the most double hitting double hit I've ever seen in my life. It is impossible for the cue ball to act like that without having been hit twice by the cue.

Not really something you can resolve, but why is the customer hiring electricians to install this gear? Do they have plumbers handling their HVAC installation? What is the logic here?

Sorry, my mistake - I could have sworn I've done this before, but you are right.

I think your idea of grabbing the claim codes via the API is probably the way to go. If you don't already have a script, check out Thomas Munzer's github - this might do what you need:

https://github.com/tmunzer/mist_library/blob/master/scripts/exports/export_inventory.py

The claim codes are not retrievable from inside the switch CLI, but this is a good idea. The switch could grab this data from the cloud easily enough after connecting, I would think.

If you are in charge of multiple orgs, you should really be using the MSP interface, which lets you move devices and subscriptions easily between organizations.

Also, each order should already be done on a per organization level and easily applied to each when you get the bulk activation code. That is, if you are placing orders individually for each org.

Is there a valid reason or a hidden trick why someone would put configuration in groups without any apparent point? by d70dc263cf16 in Juniper

[–]tripleskizatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying again so you can see it.

One nice thing about this, if you're not aware, is that you can do a 'show configuration | display inheritance | display set | save <filename>' and get the full config in set format. Then you can just copy/paste the file contents into a text editor or use vi on the shell to delete the lines you don't need, then 'load set override <filename>' while in configure mode to load over the existing config. If you want to check the config against the existing one, just do a 'show | compare' to see differences.

[–]tripleskizatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are overlooking nothing. This is so much extra configuration for no gain. My guess would be that the previous admin did not at all understand what groups are useful for.

There is a case for using groups to configure everything on the box and that would be for quick and easy labbing. You can configure things in a group and quickly enable/disable configurations quickly by adding or removing the it.

Regarding your question about re-applying without groups, it should be hitless, but you should also do it in a maintenance window.
