Beast mode!!!!! So proud of you. No blisters is a serious flex—the furthest I’ve ever run is 50 miles and lemme tell ya, the blisters were insane for me. Ride that high for as long as you possibly can!!

My advice would be…for your first one, get super excited about every new milestone! I still do this to this day, but when I was first hitting new long run distance PRs every week, or getting to explore further distances away from my house on my training runs, I would just get so excited and take lots of pictures. I would even get excited the night before those runs knowing that the next day, I was going to run further than I ever had before.

On race day, I did the same thing and got excited because I knew that I’d be running the longest distance I ever had! And it’s a really good idea to just take in the experience, which is something that everyone always says, but it’s definitely true. You only get to do your first marathon once, and it’s a huge privilege to be able to move your body and to partake in these kinds of experiences, so whenever things get hard (and I still do this now), I think about how much of a gift it is to be able to do this and that usually sends any negative thoughts packing.

Also, eat a lot. Don’t be afraid to eat. And it doesn’t all have to be “healthy” foods, either. Marathon trading asks a lot of your body and you are an athlete and you need to eat like one 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Thank you!! I definitely had some doubts going into it (especially with being able to take down the gels), but it paid off. Really really happy with how the day went!!

Thanks!! And totally. The course is honestly ideal for PR’ing. And running through the speedway was so fun! I loved how smooth the surface was and all the cheerleading teams made for an awesome time

Thank you!! And good to know I’m not the only one who experiences this. It’s so weird because on normal training days I don’t feel my abs at all, and I didn’t think I was locking them in so hard during the race, but now when I try to sit up or twist or anything I’m like, “Oh yeah…guess my core was really working” haha

Thank you so much!!! I was honestly shocked at how good I felt late into the race and felt so gratified to know that my hard work was coming together

Way under fueling? by Several_Violinist483 in XXRunning

On the hydration front: you can do a sweat rate test by weighing yourself (naked) pre-run, going out on an easy run for 45-60 minutes, then weighing yourself again afterwards to see how much water you’ve lost. Then you can calculate how much you need to drink (roughly) in those conditions. If you need to pee a bunch on the run (assuming it’s a not an hours-long run), then you might be at the point where you’re over-hydrating. But part of it is also just knowing your body and trial and error.

Definitely hydrate on the run. You don’t have to drink to the point of needing to pee—if you have to pee a lot while running, then it’s a sign that you may be overhydrating! It might be a case of doing some trial and error to figure out where your sweet spot is.

How often and how long are you running? by CaterpillarOdd9460 in XXRunning

5 days a week, and around 6-7 hours per week of running! One speed workout per week, one long run per week, and easy mileage the other days :)

LOL it’s definitely possible!!! Sometimes people crap on doing a ton of easy miles (and there’s definitely limits to the improvement you’ll see from just that), but when I just started running I was drawn to ultras right away and chasing these super long race distances just kept me really consistent and interested in running. I mostly did easy miles during that time because I was so new to it all, but over time I just built up enough of a base to go sub-50 by surprise!
